im not a fan of either of these but from what i remember watching from those shows:
In re:zero emilia is the first girl to show kindness to subaru and emotionally supports him through the trauma of season 1, so he likes her the most.
in sword art online asuna is the only one that matches kirito´s skill and is cute so he falls for her. they reinforce that in the fight against a high level enemy where he cant defeat it alone but together they can.
a case that comes to mind that really pissed me off was kamille and fa in gundam Z. i know they end up marrying in kiki´s manga but man like what the fuck cant he see fa is head over heels for him? even emma says so!
That one part in the five centimeters per second movie also made me want to beat the MC with a metal rod.

about the phones thing. yes and no. children are dumber these days but the social aspect of middle school is probably the nicest its ever been. i for one hate this and think banter is an important part of middle school and high school but if any parents were worried about their children´s school experience being hostile, these days its less likely to happen.
The downgrade in education is not a direct consequence of this i believe. You´d trace that back to the "schools for all children" ideal that was implemented in the worst possible way by lowering standards to fit all.

Why do most anime based video games suck/are low quality? I'm not saying every game needs to be a masterpiece, but don't insult the fans. You know we are going to buy it (good or bad), at least give us a 7/10

Personally I don't mind kids with smartphone these days, what pisses me off is when they think smartphone is their only gateway to the world outside. It's just one tool that we can utilize, there are many other interesting stuff to see and learn, I hope children these days are aware of that.
That said if I have children one day and they can't even finish first 2 level of Pac-man, I'm releasing them into the wild.

usually, whoever pays the most for the license and rights gets to make the game. and a lot of anime-based games sell well even if the game is terrible.
dragon ball z - the legacy of goku 1. terrible game. 1.2 million copies sold. $35 million in sales.
the sequels are better, but sold far less.

it probably makes sense in japanese. or they just like making easy jokes and puns.
going off of how skies of arcadia went during the translation process, that's probably the case. a lot of stuff in the japanese version made perfect sense but could not be translated into english without becoming nonsense or stilted in nature. that's why we get weird sentences like "destiny is destiny" "what's a cemetery?" and "people die when they are killed." some stuff just can't cross over the language barrier.

Could be, Japan naming convention is already pretty confusing. Even Japanese themselves don't always understand these.
yep. they like 4 alphabets if i remember correctly, one of which is like high end literature. i remember that because of a translation hack i stumbled across on cd-r called last Armageddon, which took years to translate because it had very rarely used parts of their alphabet in it.
i'm surprised at this point that anything that they make is coherent considering how complex and confusing their language is. i'd just make stuff like pac man and never bother with more than 2 words in anything that i would make under those circumstances.

This reminds me, I have a friend living in Japan and there are 3 stations named 木幡, exact same kanji, just different pronounciation, he ask his native Japanese colleagues and everyone don't even know why they did it like this.

i like this because its pretty realistic. truthfully in the end most people do chase after their crushes instead of just settling with the person whos already into them. the feeling probably stems from the allure of the unattainable. going after someone out of reach feels like striving for a challenge that validates the worth of the relationship. whats easily attainable can lose its shine in comparison. with rezero this aspect is emphasized in the writing as one of the big plot points was how much subaru idealizes emilia to a large degree
