Were there any games from your childhood that maybe were owned by an older sibling or your dad, uncle, whoever that your parents told you that you were absolutely not allowed to play? I remember my dad and granddad liked to play Doom back in the 90s when I was little and my grandmother told me I wasn't allowed to play it. I played it anyway.

Even if I'm sure they are solid rpgs with great combat and exploring, I don't allow myself to play Persona series because of the references about devil (too many and too heavy references for my liking).

During teen years I simply never had my eyes on games with gore or dark themes or inappropriate details for my age, probably just because of me, I never enjoyed games (or movies or books) too much violent or with excessive gore/blood or horror and so on, so my answer to the post is: no :)

Sometime ago I played a Moero Crystal title on Vita, mostly because of the nice mechanic of having different "monsters" in your party while exploring dungeons - almost like a Pokemon title. I played the main quest (not really enjoying the fan service), but in the postgame I started to feel unease about it, so I just stopped playing without caring anymore. That was a title I haven't said anything about in family, like I usually do with other games, and my first and probably last game of that genre!

I only recall one game that I was told not to buy, let alone play, by my mother:

...Which is weird, because this was the same woman who gifted me:

What's so bad about the DoA2 title? She pre-ordered it, meaning she got the poster, too:

She also pre-ordered and bought this for me one Christmas:

The mousepad sucks for optical mice.

Sometimes I think she had a split personality... because when she bought me this one birthday she said the cover looked interesting, but they should've used the back art for the cover.

O__o

My parents were gamers when I was young. Mom was the owner of our Windows 98, so she also had computer games I wasn't allowed to play. MechWarrior 2 (I think it was 2?), Mortal Kombat 4 and Duke Nukem 3D were all on the list, though I remember reading the manuals for the latter two. She also helped me get into MUDs and MUCKs for maybe a year or two in my young adult life, because she used to be huge about those.

Other than that, I think the Nintendo 64 port of Forsaken was also on there? It's a 3D first-person space shooter thing, but the front cover would tell you otherwise...

...aside from that, technically I wasn't allowed to play the Super NES (also my mom's console) when I was really little, but had my Game Boy Pocket till then.

Uh so my mom was super into gaming way back. When I was old enough to have tastes, and those tastes matched hers, I'd always get to watch her play the games but I was told I wasn't allowed to play them myself until she finished them.

The fun thing was she never finished them. She'd get like, 3/4 of the way through then just stop. So I had this huge backlog.

Also any time a new system came out, they'd sell the old one. So I also had a massive list of games I never finished because they'd sell the console before I could.

One time I tried sneaking a playthrough of Star Ocean on the ps2. She found out and hit me really hard.

We don't talk anymore, and now I play what I want. My daughter does too, even if it's a game I like and play.

The South Park snowball fight game on the N64, but that was all she knew about. Beyond that, she never paid attention enough to do anything but yell at me more.

I probably wasn't allowed to play games on porn websites when I was 13, but what she didn't know doesn't hurt me.

It wasn't forbidden explicitly, but me and my maternal cousins all agreed that we were forbidden to play the original Bomber Man and Lode Runner

It all stemmed from our aunt (who's the elder sister of my formerly Galaga-addicted mom) cuz she wasn't just addicted with those two games, she was a MF'ing beast with them

It usually started with her seeing us paying then her saying, "hey next time after you 'game over', it's my turn okay?" Whenever we wipe, we lost our chance to hold the NES controller for the night

Even if we whine and be given at least 3 chances of wiping out, it's still the same: she'll be hogging the console all night long and shush us with "it's late, kids shouldn't be sleeping late: don't disturb me"

Then we'll be falling asleep with mild resentment and the Bomber Man BGM in our ears. Mind you, she was one of our nicest aunts (a nurse even, so when we were sick, she's the one we always rely on), but don't disturb her gaming

I know that probably wasn't fun for y'all kids, but your aunt sounds fucking awesome.

Fortunately my parents never prohibited anything to me, my father got me into really violent art and my mother never cared because it was just a game, but i do remember feeling "bad" when playing Thrill Kill, and i never wanted to be discovered playing this one lmao.

my mother was very against me playing goldeneye for n64. she hid the cartridge from me once and when i happened to find it she threw it away! all these years later i wonder why she wasnt okay w goldeneye but seemingly was okay with gta

I wasn't allowed to play games based on movies because my mom thought it was just cheap crap.

My parents didn't care. I'd play the Duke Nukem games, the GTA games, etc. The only thing my mom ever took away from me was a Marilyn Manson "Lunchbox" CD where he was naked in the liner notes. :ROFLMAO:

For what ever dumb, dumb, DUMB....and uhh DUMB... (did i say dumb?) oh yeah, DUMBEST reason of unknown (since it went to his grave, rip grampuh) I was NEVER allowed to touch his copy of Zone of Enders for his PS2....Why??? Well I don't know lemme get with my local witch doctor and see if he can help me settle a few things
(Sorry gramps but i played it years back and sadly never finished, actually might go do that now since i remember this game being spicy)
