Games you replayed a hundred times?

Off the top of my head
-Vectorman
-Game and Watch Gallery 2
-Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
-Kirby Block Ball
-Ape Escape
-Yugioh Worldwide Edition: Stairway To The Destined Duel
-Muppet Monster Adventure
-Conker's Bad Fur Day
-Metal Slug 1

If we count randomizers than Super Metroid x Link To The Past is easily my most played thing ever.

Beyond that, I've gotten to level 99 in CT on both SNES and DS. I've also replayed Mega Man X tons of times, it being my go to "how bad is the lag" test game cause the muscle memory is so strong.

I've played Final Fantasy VII on PSX so many times that I practically know it by heart now.

SOTN definitely, Long time ago I had stopped doing those replays that came from time to time... until I found out that the Saturn version had new content. Man I was the happiest guy when I discovered about that. I have been playing the damn thing since I was a kid and I just can't get enough out of it.

I had a lot of fun with MGSV and I must admit I have replayed it more than I should have. Other games I find myself replaying from time to time are RE4 and the Tokyo Xtreme Racer games. Very entertaining games. Tony Hawk for n64 too ::biggrin
I recently played though the Saturn version of SOTN, but the patched English version. It has some quirks but it's definitely now my favorite version of the game. This is the link to the patch: https://romhackplaza.org/romhacks/d...a-symphony-of-the-night-ultimate-sega-saturn/

I highly recommend it.

Ico. There are just some lazy weekends that generate the perfect Ico sized space for the most endearing escort mission of all time. It’s a sun baked holiday. It’s a wonderful lush aesthetic that has inspired so many damn indie games, yet they all seem cheap imitation's.

Metal Gear Solid though, is still my most replayed. I’d say at least 1 play a year. It’s silly because I know every corner and secret. There is nothing new to me on PSX Metal Gear. I have done 100% on the vr missions expansion. I’d kill for a weird Majoras Mask style offbeat sequel in the same engine. Sure, I enjoy the sequels a lot. MGS was just a self contained epic that stands on its own, and in many ways is a stripped back but also more focused experience. I don’t replay it to find something new, I replay it to remind me that games can be this compelling.

Deus Ex. I am still discovering new ventilation shafts even after 7 playthroughs. The details in level and scenario design just keep me excited to come back and see what else I can mess with or try differently. Its mind bending vision of the future is also iconic and interesting if in a sometimes prophetic. A few layers to unravel if your a story person.

Lucasarts adventure games. Monkey Island and Grim Fandango in particular. Look, the first couple times I was playing a game. Now I just want to relive some of the most charming adventure stories ever conceived. Humour is something games are often afraid to attempt, but Lucasarts pushed into it with bravado. These are the stories I can confidently share with friends and loved ones. Grim Fandango as a cinematic work, to me, was executed better than any Pixar film despite its technological hurdles. That is what lives on beyond the puzzles.

Which version(s) was the best way to experience it/them?
The CD version on DOS was by far the most enjoyable one — they literally just upgraded the graphics/music and got rid of some redundant ScummVM options, making it a MUCH more enjoyable and smoother experience.

I'm deeply nostalgic for the 16 color version because those EGA graphics and PC speaker sounds were the first ones I ever experienced, but it's really no contest.

SRW X & T, Gotcha Force, Pikmin, Sonic Adventure 2, Luigi's Mansion, Digimon World 1 (but not 2, 3, or 4), and, uh, I wonder if rogue-likes/lites such as Binding of Isaac or Vampire Survivor count?

Lost Kingdoms I & II, Pikmin 1 & 2, Luigi's Mansion, Ghost in the Shell (PSX), Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, and Ys Origin and Celeste!

I love these games so much, simply replaying them over and over again is a constant and delightful sense of security, joy and bliss.

Spyro the Dragon, Castle of Illusion, Sonic 1 and 2, A Link to the Past, Mario World, Crash 3, Mario 2, and a bunch more.

Like a thousand times:

- On MS-DOS
- On Windows XP
- On Switch
- On PS5

And more than once in these platforms.

Which sourceport have you tried on PC?

Well besides DOS (its native port) I have tried:

- ZDooM
- GZDooM
- Zdaemon
- Skulltag (back in the day)
- Zandronum

The last two are just kind of GZDooM, but I remember trying them all in the 2000s. I ofc recommend GZDooM for solo gaming, just turn texture filtering off.

Shmups are probably cheating for this question, since they’re designed around replaying, but I’ve apparently played RefRain nearly 800 times. Glad it’s keeping count, because I sure couldn’t.

Good old Skulltag, I remember Aquarius testing many wads in it.

I've done Doom via GZDoom (with some mods), PrBoom+, Crispy Doom, Chocolate Doom (once) and DSDA (I forgot if I did it through other ports).

I've often heard that Zandronum was better than GZDoom even if you strictly play in solo but nowadays you have UZDoom which could replace it.

Mega Man X (Any of them. Yes even X7.)
Star Fox 64
Metal Gear Solid 2
Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting
Streets Of Rage 2
Ocarina Of Time
Super Mario World
Super The Empire Strikes Back
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
