Games you replayed a hundred times?

I know it wasn't asked, but there are a few media that I return to at least once a year.

For a long time in games it was Suikoden 1 and 2, this year though every time I turn on my console I'll start playing something then go immediately to Parasite Eve. Beaten it 3 times already and working through a 4th run.

Movies I'll watch Repo! The Generic opera at least once a month

For books I'll read the Animorphs series every year

Baroque is that game for me, whether it’s the PS1 Version or PS2 Remake. I can’t get enough of that world’s atmosphere and soundtrack.

Godhand, F-zero GX, Ocarina of time and FF7 are all games that can be replayed once a year and harbour the same amount of satisfaction and enjoyment from completing.
Also deus ex.

Metal Slug 1-3, could replay those any time for a quick fix of some great pixelated action.
Every year Skyrim manages to snatch onto my soul for at least a month or so.
Resident Evil 5 is something I've beaten more times than I'd like to admit.
And last but not least, Ace Combat Zero, I can't get enough of that game.

Games i beat at least over 10 times at this point

  1. Mega Man 2
  2. Super Mario 64
  3. Sonic the Hedgehog
  4. Sonic The Hedgehog CD
  5. Sonic The Hedgehog 2
  6. Super Mario Bros.
  7. Super Mario Bros 3.
  8. Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (dont ask)

Dark Souls 1, Kingdom Hearts 1 and perhaps A Link to the Past, I think those are my most replayed games

Fallout: NV
Skyrim
Dragon Age: Origins
Pokemon Emerald
Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (FE7)
Final Fantasy 9
Clocktower
Mount & Blade Warband

I have to give credit for the OG Konami trio (Contra, Gradius and Castlevania) Regarding my NES emulation

For longer games i always come back to the first Final Fantasy and Etrian Odyssey even knowing they haven't aged well compared to their sequels, not aging fine does not stop them from being great games

Of all the Zeldas i have played, i can consider Minish Cap the one most played

200+ games on my MAME and i always give a shot to Aero Fighters, Progear and most usually The Ninja Kids

I can think of a few I've played literally a hundred times or close to that:

Duck Tales 2, Chip'n Dales and Double Dragon 2 on NES. Games I've been playing since childhood.

Maybe not a hundred but at least 50 times:
Resident Evil 1/2/3 (I've played all versions of them multiple times accross multiple regions, I even bought a Game.com for that version of RE2)
Streets of Rage 1/2
Castlevania Dracula XX (SNES) and Castlevania Bloodlines, I used to attempt to do no damage runs in both but I never managed to do it, I'd always get hit at least once, usually 2 or 3 times per playthrough.

I've also played through Final Fantasy VIII a dozen times, I used to replay it every year. The crazy thing is that every replay I'd always find something new about the game, be it some story or gameplay element that are hidden. I also did a no lvl-up run way back when, long before it was cool to do so and there were walkthroughs on the subject, only using knowledge I had acquired in my previous playthroughs (in fact I made it harder on myself because I had no idea you could turn enemies into cards in battle for free APs with no EXP gain, so I mostly relied on boss fights until I got to fight Cactuar and use lvl-down on enemies to minimize the exp yield)

the most i replayed are Titanfall 2, Battlefield 3 and Gran Turismo 2

Lunar: Silver Star Story. Have played it countless times since I was about 9, am now 36.

Having the entire script and all the dialogue memorized has come in handy while playing the Remaster. It's been interesting seeing what they decided to change...

ayo melly waddahell? It's jeriko lmfao. wild nice to see you

n e way i've played vanguard bandits more than I'd care to admit. it's the one I think of when this topic comes up bc I don't even hold vanguard bandits in particularly high regard or... like it that much. It just sunk its claws into me at a young age.

ngl, i first played puzzle fighter ps1 a lot, on the ps1 classic, when i was younger, then i switched to games like tekken and street fighter, as they are both accesible via emulation.
(nowadays, everything is...)

X-Com: UFO Defense

I've played this numerous times when I was still on my old 486. I then played it on the 1999 "X-Com Collector's Edition" for Windows but that ended up sucking pretty badly on Windows so then I've been playing it through DosBox. If I could only have 1 game ever, it would be this. The replayability is always there as the game is mostly randomized. Sure, you could always approach it with the same strategy (Research Tree, Base Buildups, etc) but the game will always play just differently enough each time through. Unless you save scum your way through it, it ramps up difficulty on the harder settings. You lose your HWP with one shot from a Cyberdisc, OUCH! That favorite soldier that has been growing in stats then gets hit from behind by a hiding Snakeman, OUCH! You can save scum this game to make it easier but to play it as intended continues to be a fun and challenging game even 30 years later. The Firaxis games are fun in a different way but I grew tired of them. Firaxis' X-Com 2 started to hard but then became too easy and felt less open worldly as the orginal. Terror From the Deep? That is a separate love-hate relationship....

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is my favorite game ever made, and I’m never afraid to hop back in and play it. Whether it’s the original release, the Saturn, the DS, or the Switch, I’m always psyched to come back and play some more.
With the SEGA homebrew revolution, I hope for a fanmade upgrade, possibly a port of the Sonic 3 Complete project, to the Saturn or 32X.

Even the DS one? I remember playing it once there but I'd be curious to try that version again with & Knuckles as I've only did 3 Standalone. I am interested in doing it via Sonic Jam.

32X would allow more options. Saturn modding/homebrewing sounds hard.

A game I have played well over a hundred times is Sonic the Hedgehog 2 especially lately. The first point of why lately? Is that I can play it while a game downloads onto my Switch. The running time of around two hours is perfect to start up and begin to play while downloading a game and probably even more so is the fact that I'll play it start to finish regardless of how long my download lasts. I'm out of finding new ways to run through the game and find paths, but I still come back to it and end up just seeing how quickly I can run through the game or how many lives I have when it comes to an end.

The game is a masterclass to me in functional fun. A mark missed even by it's predecessor. Sonic 1 fails to capture the high speed platforming in the same way Sonic 2 did. My Genesis game with a copy of Sonic 1 and while I was young I played the first level over and over getting bored out of mind at the slow pacing of Marble Zone. Thankfully I was not deterred when it came to buying Sonic 2 and it's been a gem from my childhood ever since.

I have played Mega Man X2 so much over the years, more than the others, and also specifically every summer. I've been doing this since I was a kid and now always associate it with summer.

This theme now always gives me a vibe of when it's an overly warm and humid summer day and it's too hot to do anything and you're just sitting in front of a fan.

Actually Sonic was meant to be momentum based not high speed based.

I think the first game still was more like a traditional platformer and while 2 improved things the game also suffers from being rushed so that the later levels have their quality dipping down and some obstacles harder to avoid. Thankfully the Mobile remasters (and Anniversary versions in Origins by extent) fixed most of the issues in these two games.

I’m young enough that the DS version was the one I grew up on. The DS version is also one of the worst versions to play. I know that, the community knows that, and it’ll never have much respect. That said, it was still what I played, and I respect it for being a faithful port that you can play on the go, even if the emulation was far more poor than it should have been. DS could have EASILY played that game better, and SEGA should have given more cash to the dev team to make a collection that was worth more than an eyebrow raise nowadays.

Sonic 2 is also one of the luckiest Genesis games! I can’t deny, even as somebody who likes it lower than most Classic Sonic games, it’s super accessible and remains a solid example of the Sonic series to people who’ve never played it before. It’s a good all around package, a great value proposition, and is on just about everything (sometimes multiple times over).

I would call it an infestation.

I find it weird how the GBA had good SNES ports whereas the DS struggled to run the Genesis that was less powerful.

Well i have to think really hard about this, but for me personally it probably would be.Rayman 2 Revolution and Rayman M on the Ps2 and Tekken 4 on the Ps2,and i would if i could Star Wars Battle Front 2 on the Ps2 if my disc was not to scratched :( .And i guess Wrc Rally Evolved also on Ps2
