I know there's already a "worst games you've ever played" thread on here, but I'd argue this is different. I've played some real frustrating or awful games that thankfully didn't eat into my wallet, but there's a different emotion that comes with realizing I spent money on something that left me feeling nothing (if not exactly the same as a worse game).

ex) I spent $8 on Rollergames for the NES years ago at a secondhand store and I was pissed. It's a beat-em-up/platformer where you're moving forward way more often than you're standing still, so it's a big adjustment even compared to other tough as nails Konami NES games. I couldn't tell you if it's a bad game with my current perspective but I probably would've said so at the time.

I had a worse feeling after spending $30 on SpongeBob: The Cosmic Shake. Best Buy had it for $10 less than MSRP, even... at the cost of it coming absurdly late in the mail. This one, I had some stake in since it was off the heels of the BfBB remaster. I wasn't expecting Mario Odyssey but I was expecting a solid platformer. It functioned well enough, but it was bland, repetitive, way too linear and the writing (everything from one-liners to the whole dimension hopping gimmick) was so reliant on references that it made me remember why I don't hate the newest episodes as much as others do. The current artists/writers regularly try new things with the show while this game feels like it's actively attempting to do the opposite. The kicker was when Purple Lamp came back with an Epic Mickey remaster that looked way better visually than either of their SpongeBob titles; I'm convinced working with Viacom is some sort of curse.

I enjoyed Cosmic shake for what it was, but I came into it with low expectations. I very much thought the BfBB remake was way worst than the original, and I have a lot of nostalgia for it.

I kind of regret buying Sparking Zero day one. I wouldn't say it's a bad game, but I bought into the hype and wanted to get it day 1 when I should have just waited like a year for a discount. I also didn't have any interest in the multiplayer so there really was no reason to not wait. It's a fun game, but it get's nowhere near living up to the legacy of BT3.

"Zelda Tears of Kingdom"; I was not interested in it, but then the huge advertising and the fact it was open-world made me literally want to have it. Note I'm not a Zelda fan, I only played two titles on 3ds, "Ocarina of Time" and to me it was ok, but I totally needed a guide for almost all dungeons, and "Link Between Worlds", I needed a guide for late and more complex dungeons but I've enjoyed it more, both gameplay and graphics and mechanic.

Bought "Tears of K." day-one (after seeing some leaked video, I thought it was awesome), but then... I don't know, for me all the Lego-like thing was extremely clunky and boring, in fact I only built things mandatory for the plot, nothing else, and I was like "ok, I spent 60 euros on it so now I MUST finish it, and then I'll sell it". Also, the open world felt beautiful at times, but some other empty and boring, and for what I remember the combat was not better, it felt a bit clunky too. And those long-line menus were not very confortable, at least for me.

I can see the good sides of the game, being a huge rpg with good plot, lots to do and discover and nice graphics and a HUGE world and the player has freedom to build many things, it simply wasn't the game for me and, "if I could turn back time" (as Aqua song say), I would not buy it again.

I bought Skyrim, Dark Souls 1 and 2 and I don't care for them.

Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2 hurt my wallet too, if you compare how little I played them to how expensive they are.

The one that always comes to mind for me is Neverdead.

I knew it wasn't gonna be a masterpiece going in, but I was at least hoping for a fun, jank, and cheesy C-Tier hack and slash. I had such an awful time with it and never touched it again after the first time. It wasn't "So bad, it's good", it was just bad.

Well, my mother raised me to regret all my frivolous purchases at one point or another, but one that jumps out at me is King of Fighters XII.

We picked it up, took it home, and after an hour realized there was virtually no content, it was just okay as a fighter, and online matches were crashing or running like stop-motion animation.

I basically begged the guy at Gamestop to let me trade it for something else, I'm not proud of it but I was *really* annoyed with myself for wasting that money.

I apologize in advance for this:

This could have been better. The Idea was "good" in some aspects.
This was the first Xbox 360 game I ever played, it was on my 15 birthday when my parents unexpectedly gifted this console to me and I immediately began playing it with my friends. My most advanced console up to this point was the Wii so the HD graphics were pretty mind blowing to me.

So I might be one of the few people who had fond memories of this game. It's not like the copy was legitimate anyway.

I bought Dying Light 2 for 3€, it was bad. Boring story and horrible characters plus the game was extremely buggy. Another game I hate having bought is Bloodstained (the 3d one) on switch, it was my first digital games and well I made a huge mistake. The game looks low resolution and it's pixelated, the game runs fine most of time. It's sad seeing the dev abandoning the game on swith but not on pc and ps4 (compared to Lords of the Fallen for ps5, a game I bought with Dying Light 2 that is still updated and fixed)

Ayo I played it on my nodded ps3, I honesty enjoyed it but I must also say some mechanics and levels were just tedious

I know people have qualms with Rehydrated but the base game was all there in my eyes. It didn't feel like Cosmic Shake was built upon what made the older game work. It's just a blah kids platformer in the same engine. Probably would've walked away less grumpy if it was a gift or I had no attachment to BfBB.

They should've done a Movie Game remaster hands down

I respect your view for this game, my first Xbox 360 game happen to be X-Men Destiny, you reminded me of that as well, the game was my eye-candy at the time, so many moves and choices, but if I take a step back from the game, it shows many flaws in it. The game lacked, but was a fun arcade like experience for me.

That was exactly how I felt about Breath of the Wild.

I've been a Zelda fan since I was a child, but I've had a much harder time enjoying the 3D games than the 2D ones. Still, I love Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, and a guy I worked with said, "BotW is an open world where you DON'T have to climb a bunch of towers to unlock the map and it's NOT full of pointless side quests that you only do to get a checkmark on a list."

Well, he was right about one of those things--there AREN'T a lot of pointless side quests, because there are barely any side quests at all. The tower thing was complete bunk. That's EXACTLY how that game works--AND that whole game lacks any sort of encouragement for exploration. Everything you get breaks and there are no new items or tools to interact with the environment once you leave the starting plateau.

I don't fault anybody for loving these new Zeldas, but the "BEST GAME EVER!!!!" arguments are always supreme cope imo.

Don't worry, it wasn't the game for many other people. I am a Zelda fan and I consider it one of the worst Zelda games of all times.

It's hard to recall games that I regret buying, I usually don't get surprised if the game is bad because I tend to pay little money for them.

But one special guest would be this one:

It was so hilariously bad ported that I decided to keep it, then I bought the 360 version.

I bought Fallout 76 when it came out with my own money. I was in high school so of course $60 was a big cut to my nonexistent income. I ended up playing it for a few hours after I bought it and I slowly came to the conclusion that the game stunk. It also hurt because the game went on sale only a couple weeks later because it was selling terribly.

Street Fighter V and Tekken 7.

SFV mostly because there's nothing like getting an upgrade and still not having the full roster (lol), and Tekken 7 because I was already done with the series by then, it was mostly a matter of "it's here if I need it".
