Games you prefer playing on PCSX2

I play all on the emulator, I honestly haven't touched the console since 2015. The emulator works just fine, no upscaling or tweaks just default settings, if I were to add I'd say it's the memories and not the technology

I'm happy to have physical copies and the actual physical console, but I play everything I can with PCSX2 out of convenience and ease of access (few seconds to boot up). And I don't have to keep the ps2 hooked up as much if I need the space for something else. If friends came over for some gaming, I think that'd be a good time to bust out the physical console and set it up so we can play on the couch in front of the tv.

There is one game that i just cant play on a PS2 but just fine in emulator, Metal Saga

This in console it was the only game with a crap ton of loading screens all over the place that made progress too slow compared to any other game i played

I could finally beat it in emulator, in the real PS2.... no way

most of them for subtle reasons, but for not subtle reasons would be Dynasty Warriors cuz it’s a lot easier to enable the Xtreme Legends expansion via emulation compared to having two discs.

Probably Gran Turismo 4. It looks phenomenal with the HD texture packs and the Spec II mod only works on the emulator (as far as I know). And if you want to 100% complete the game, it's very nice to have save states for the endurance races.

The VGA cable is for CRT monitor, where it shines. Using it for a modern TV is also a waste of quality, that will be my opinion because I aim for the experience 1:1 as the summit of everything.

It does not matter how good an emulator is, the native console will always be better, compatibility and stability wise. But I understand people using emulators because I also use them, but I need to have the 1:1 experience available, otherwise I can't play the emulator. In a nutshell, I can't play emulators if I don't have the console, unless is something like arcade.

CRT vga monitors are too small to enjoy such games and they lack audio input. TV monitors with vga input had better results. Though current TVs removed vga too.

Only issue was with 2d sprite games that were pixellated because of double scanlines at 480p.

If TV monitors are CRT, I am in. There is no such thing as better quality than CRT PC monitor for a console that outputs 640x480 resolution. My Sony Trinitron CRT monitor from 2003 is aeons better than any regular TV with a VGA connection. Yeah, it's 17", but image quality wise, there is nothing better. In addition, the audio is hooked to an amplifier to get the best sound.

Most PS2 fighting games purely so I can use my modern fightstick. I know adapters exist, but I'm cheap like that I guess lol

I was playing Dragon quest 8 to test out my new laptop and it's GPU, did not disappoint with how gorgeous it looked. This begs the question though, why haven't square enix just done a straight upscaling of the game to modern platforms??, seems like it would just print money at this stage. A simple upscale would be all that game needs besides mild QOL features in modern RPG re-releases, such as faster battle speed, turn off encounter etc. but these are expected bells and whistles these days.

My own guess as to why we haven't seen a simple re-release yet would be they want to remake it and remarket it, after pushing everything else, it's likely a 2D HD remake of 4-6 is coming next 7, then 8.

IMO it's 9 that really needs a remake though.

I recently modded my PS2 to let me boot games off of an internal HDD, but it's been a bit finicky. I've been playing through Fatal Frame 2 for the season, but I did have to transfer my save to my PC and play through one section before going back to hardware, as the game softlocked on me on real hardware. I think this isn't an uncommon thing, I'm just not yet familiar with the best OPL settings.

Exactly and mosr Remakes are worst like Silent hill 2 amd Gears of war.
Except Resident Evil 4 remake was subliem.

With FMCB 1.66 card softmod, you dont need chipmod ps2.

Tekken 4 and 5 and tag tournament. play well so does burnout 3. Also love pal version of auto modellista due to the improved handling. Soul calibur II and III looks exceptional with enhanced resolution. I also play a modded version of Smackdown here comes the pain which has no problems.

Most of the games I prefer on PCSX2 are preferred solely because my CRT is really dark. I have a decently large PS2 collection and a couple PS2 systems. I love the PS2 a lot and I'm planning on buying some more controllers soon for it once I become adept at repairing them, they're rather annoying to clean and mod. PCSX2 also offers something more than just an easier to configure screen that's brighter, it also lets me play games I literally cannot buy if I wanted to.

Retro games are expensive these days, so I don't actually use my games anymore. I don't want any additional wear and tear on the games or the boxes/cases. I want to preserve their condition. So I pretty much play everything on emulators now. I own a physical copy of Kuon in mint condition, but I don't use it. When I want to play it, I fire up an emulator.

I also like the convenience of running emulators on handheld devices like a Retroid Pocket 5, Odin2 Portal, or playing PS1 games on a Vita or New Nintendo 3ds XL

The days of me playing older games on original hardware are behind me. Emulation all the way

What I've leant most from this thread is there are a lot of people who don't know what OPL is.
I do now LOL

I like the idea of stuff like this or hacking certain consoles (like the original Xbox), but my current living space is small so the fewer actual consoles I need to have out of my closet the better. Emulation is just an easier option. My Odin2 Portal can play just about any game I want from any system and I can hold it in my hands or connect it to my TV

If I had a nice large game room though it would be nice to have a bunch of original hardware consoles out running things like OPL and maybe an old CRT television as well.

Emulation. Cost, convenience, performance and having a sour experience trying to get the OPL set up (and not managing it in the end - I went back and forth between my PC and PS2 in different rooms about six times following a guide to the letter and it not working) made the decision for me.

Just about every game tbh. Love using fast forward if I'm grinding in RPGs

every game duh! if i had to choose one though, probably final fantasy X. something about the original ps2 version but upscaled does so much more for me than the HD remaster.
