Games You Finished in 2026

Got onto a bit of a Sonic kick over the holidays, seems to be continuing into 2026! Somewhat begrudgingly, as it's been a chaotic mix of good, okay, and crimes against humanity.

So far in 2026, with short reviews I wrote:

Not bad! Sonic fans waited a decade for a good 3D Sonic, and here it is. Understsnds that 3D Sonic of this era works best when it takes control away from the player and lets them enjoy the spectacle, which fits the them park setting beautifully. Sonic riding through an asteroid field in a dragon roller coaster? Sick. Generally good and varied level design coupled with an entertaining Saturday-morning-cartoon vibe and some of the best visuals on Wii (especially those pre-rendered cutscenes, lookin' good!), and we're in for a pretty good time. There's a few drawbacks you expect with Sonic, frustrations in the level design (some feeling like they're over before they've started, others dragging on longer than they should) and jank and the like, but honestly this comes pretty close to the highs Generations would reach not long after. Get yourself a decent PC or handheld, chuck this into Dolphin, and have a blast. Far as I know the remaster is a worse product so sail the seas my friends, sail them well

Not a good game, but there's things to enjoy. The music isn't insulting, there's a few neat set pieces sprinkled into otherwise bland levels, and the usual mirth that comes with playing a game you know is awful. The main problem is an awful physics engine, clunky and slow in levels based around momentum - what could go wrong? Sonic is no stranger to poor outings, but I suppose what hurts the most is Sega passing this off as a successor to the Mega Drive trilogy, which it most certainly is not. Call this game the low effort WiiWare shite it is, port it to mobile, and be done with the damn thing - it already looks like one of those fake mobile games you see on YouTube ads, why not go the whole hog? Sonic 4 is a concept, an idea, never fully realised, only teased to us in some fever dream shat out of a game design course dorm room and left to litter the internet with all the rest of the half-finished fangames. Except those fangames are on average probably of higher quality than this. The fact this is coming from the Advance/Rush team at Dimps, who were making probably the only good Sonic games of the 2000s, stings that little bit more.

I did also start Sonic 4 Episode II, just couldnt put myself through it til the end. Somehow worse than the first one despite vastly improved physics?

Surprise, surprise: an actual mode modern game beaten.

Many people recommended me to start with this game, and the Master Chief Collection does put this game above the others on the right order to play.

The game was spectacular. I feel the only things that haven't aged super well were the human models, but beside that the game looks fantastic, plays great and with lots of vehicles and weapons variety all over the place. I'm actually happy the campaign isn't super long for the purpose (little more than 4 hours).

I have some perplexities:
- the credits didn't started before the Lone Wolf chapter (which was a chapter anyways).
- ...the achievements system in the MCC is broken?? I did got the "beaten the game" one, but in-game it kept lost track of keeping my progresses and when I reached (pun not intended) the end it said "10/12".

Another one of the NSO Genesis games.
First thought while playing it: "heh, it's basically an early NES game by structure and presentation".
And then right away discovered/intuite it was based on an arcade (as the credits of the game tell as well). A 1984 one. And it looks even much better than the console port. They're still essentially the same game, except on Megadrive it's less smoother and doesn't look as good, but still plays nicely, except when Flicky just bounces in the moment walls are barely touched.

But it was still fun, a solid 7/10 for sure. Levels never go beyond 1 minute so the pacing is fast.

Apparently with this I have beaten 700 games at least once. ::surprised-pikachu (to be fair: I've included ports and also relatedcollections if I've played them on there, like DMC HD Collection, SNK 40th Anniversary etc.. So I should at least lower the number by 50)

Release date: 2010.

This game is 15 years old.

Well...it's modern compared to every other games I've played until now. You know what I've meant. Also the Master Chief Collection got released on Steam in 2019, but I know I'm clutching at straws here. ::booshy

i haven't yet, but probably FF15
well, last mission appeared on map, so i'm mostly delaying the completition, doing most of the sidequests

so, not yet ::slime-roll
quote myself just to confirm, completed a bit ago

also i think very close to Witcher 3 (first time);
this also i'm trying to delay as much as possible

So far I have finished Final Fantasy IV PR version. I am also currently playing FFIV on DS, just need to defeat the last boss.
I am planning to play through all FF mainline games this year, up until XV, minus the MMOs.
Next one on the list is going to be FFV PR!

Cronos: The New Dawn - Game has been beaten! Still somewhat processing what just happened, but I enjoyed it overall. Could have done without the jump scare screen flashes though. Those got old after a while. And occasional monster bursting open a door really loudly.

The final boss is interesting. The way The Warden fights, is basically the first time you fight RE5 Wesker or Stefano from Evil Within 2. He will teleport, has ranged attacks, a few melees, but its get a fuck you energy wave attack. The more damage he takes, the faster he gets. There is also still cool screen glitch effect, as the fight keeps going on, and he gets more desperate I got Ending B and got a Rank B. I did not expect a ranking system in this game.

There are three different endings, and the third ending you can only get on NG+.

The story I mostly gets what happens, but you still never actually know where the actual infection came from. I do love the unique and subtle twists they do with time travel in this game. Bloober did a great job overall, and this is their magnum opus! I unlocked NG+, but I am done for now. I got other games to catch up on and finish.

Now I'm going to hit my PS1 and PS2 backlog

So far, as January 19, 2026, I finished two games.

1) Alan Wake 2

2) Sunset Overdrive

Considering last year I mainly finished short games from my backlog, I am planning to play less and longer games from my backlog this year. Currently going through Higurashi When They Cry, and pretty sure that entire visual novel (it is divided into eight main chapters and two-to-three spin off games; but I count the entire affair as one big ass visual novel and not 10-12 separate games) will take me at least anywhere between 70-100 hours to beat. So, pretty sure I ain't winning this competition or will have another update three months or so later when I finish Higurashi.

main list:
1. ape escape
2. tekken 4 (a whole bunch of characters but all on easy mode)
3. super mario 3d land (all star coin levels, no golden raccoon)

optional list:
1. civilization v (replay)

from now on i'll be counting games that only borderline count in an optional list and leave it up to binarymessiah whether or not to include them

pretty fun little platformer, also the 1st 3ds game i ever beat and the 3rd or 4th mario game i ever beat (after smg2, super paper mario, mario party 9, and maybe mkwii.) i enjoyed the abstract level visuals, also didn't expect them to go hard on the final boss presentation.

i'm glad i finally got to finish a game of civ 6. it's great, just like 4 and 5, but man are some of the reworked mechanics annoying (religion and the culture victory)

I beat Team Sonic's story in Sonic Heroes the other day.

But the main reason I'm posting here is that I beat Metroid Prime 4 Beyond (specifically the Switch 2 version). Honestly, I really liked it a lot. It was a lot of fun and something I did like is that any deaths from bosses did genuinely feel like it was your fault and it was really easy to figure out what you did wrong for next time. Like I can see certain people complaining that it's too easy, but I enjoyed it.

So far I have beaten:

Chrono Trigger
Max Payne
Endoparasitic 2
Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha (Quick work but still fun)

I am currently working on Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando.

Beat The Bouncer PS2 today

Too many cut scenes not enough action and is quite short
I give it 4/10

By the way, have you played the Undub version?

Also I may do Heroes but sorry I'll be using some "cheats" (such as save states) for the Special Stages because I would like to get over them asap.

Finished all three expansions of Duke 3D yesterday. Duke it out in DC was kinda mid (levels were confusing imo), Nuclear Winter is too amateurish and Carribean Life's a Beach is actually great (almost better than some levels, especially Lunar Apocalypse).

Neon Abyss, yay!

The last bosses were a needless pain to get to and beat, but finally did it.

8.5/10

Actually, my playthrough is the Undub version! Last year I played through the undubbed version of both Sonic Adventure games and I thought to do Heroes as well for a different experience.

Not to knock on the Eng VAs, but Junichi Kanemaru Sonic just makes me so happy, you can tell he's having so much fun.

Wait, Sonic Adventure 1&2 don't have Japanese voices included?

I was annoyed at Heroes for not having Japanese voices + English subtitles available (aside from the PS2 version but it ran awfully).

They are included in SA 1 & 2, you just have to go to the options menu to swap them.

Sorry when I said Undub I meant as in a romhack specifically made for that.

I don't mind the games with those VAs but since they changed the cast thrice while the Japanese one still stayed the same mostly I prefer that.

Finally beat Simon's Quest, the end of a 38 year journey! I tried a patched version with a better translation and faster day/night shift, but at some point that stopped recognizing some of my buttons no matter what, so I went back to the OG. This was my first Castlevania as a kiddo, actually. (and Zelda 2 was my first Zelda!) It's a very nostalgic game for me.

I managed to scrape enough time to complete DISASTER Day of Crisis for the Wii.

Let me tell ya, this is most definitely a game.

Earlier I was just gonna play higurashi, but decided then, whatever the fuck, might as well play the entire gears trilogy on 360 as well.

Really nice game I must add. Small but bombastic, and has a bit of an adventurous feel to it that I kind of miss in games in nowdays that mostly seems to be stuck in an open environment, hence less variety. Here the variety was at full display, and each level seemed to have a unique theme to it, especially act 2, which is both tense with you having to avoid dark or else get killed by bats, and also variety filled, especially that one off driving section that was actually pretty good.

13763.png

I also love how they did the credits, with lead devs leaving behind messages, that was cute.

I already booted up Gears of War 2, so maybe able to finish it by late jan or early feb.
