I really like the concept of score systems in games like what Platinum games have after you beat a level giving you a ranking, same with Manhunt, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 4 after a game clear, Metal Gear Solid with the codenames. I love it and it drastically helps replayability. What do you think of that system and what other games can you recommend that do this?

I agree, it's a great way to make players to try out different ways to approach a game
I think Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker did it well, I managed to get better score, ranks and finish quicker with a lot of tricks and tools. While in the other games I just either hit the same combo that deals huge damage or just damageless run

Hm. I suppose I might be in the minority, but I don't like scoring systems at all. I feel like I'm pressured to play a certain way in order to get the highest score(doing long combos, don't get hit, making sure I use certain moves, etc) instead of just relaxing and playing the way *I* really want to.

Megaman 1 on the NES has a scoring system that serves no purpose because there is no high score to beat, you don't get anything at all for scoring points nor does your score appear anywhere when you beat the game. The devs got rid of the system going forward but i like it a lot, it makes MM1 more unique among its younger brothers and for me, it feels more rewarding to beat the game with a big number on top of the screen when you beat the final boss.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a game everyone loves to forget about until it is brought up again

And as was kinda mentioned, a number of Sonic games had that, both Adventure games, Heroes, Unleashed, Generations, both Rush games, and maybe some others

And lets not forget Yoshi's Island, which I'm pretty sure was the first mainstream game to feature such a thing

I really miss those kinds of things. Gave me something to strive for. Oh yeah, Death Stranding did it too. Can't wait for the next one

Columns is a game i used to challenge myself when it came to high score. Same for Pac-Attack.

The entire Tetris Saga in general especially because of the additional score after a fall between each block but it increases more points depending on the current speed level and as well as the lines (Single, Double, Triple and Tetris) that give more points and more if you collect 2 or more lines.

Depends. I don't like extreme stuff like beat the Resident Evil game with 0 saves, no health items, in under twenty-five minutes with your eyes closed or some ridiculous crap like that. I don't like the ranking systems of most RE games. I did one of those ranked playthroughs in Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock edition years ago to unlock something and I never wanted to do something like that again. I was happy that Resident Evil 4 dropped that stuff entirely, one of the many reasons it's my favorite RE game.

However, I absolutely LOVE level rankings and always try and get those S ranks in the games that I play, or whatever the highest grade equivalent is. I got super addicted to that in Hotline Miami, The Red Star, Valkyria Chronicles, and in Lollipop Chainsaw with the A+ ranks and trying to beat "Dad's scores".

I also love simple scoring systems like the 100% shot down ratio in the original Star Fox. Figuring out how to kill every single enemy was really fun and challenging.

I also love completion goals in platformers. I love finishing a level and seeing that I completed it 100% by finding every hidden secret and collecting everything. Few things were as satisfying to me as finding everything in Donkey Kong Country 2.

I also LOVED the star rating system for combat in Final Fantasy XIII. It encouraged me to try and complete every fight in the smartest, most efficient way possible. It was the first FF game to grade your combat performance.

I also love trying to play through stealth games undetected and getting those "Grand Master" rankings in the Tenchu games.
