Games that everyone hate but you love. Or vice versa

I don't give Nitro Kart that much shade because CTR was ways ahead of many Kart games, and a sequel that doesn't capture that same feel isn't bad per se, is like Shrek 2 compared to Shrek 1, yeah it's a good sequel but the first one is basically an ageless movie, is the best 10/10 to an 11/10 example, the first one pushed that extra mile and became inmortal as a result.
Yeah I can agree w/ that. It's not uncommon to see it get flak online, and compared to CTR it is quite a bit of a step down, but as a racer on its own it's still pretty guud imo

FF VII is so boring and overrated

Personally, Shadow of the Colossus was a game that didn't do it for me. Although I did play the PS2 when I was younger, I wasn't around for that era of gaming, so my first real experience of the game was from its remaster.

I think I understand its impact on games from a storytelling perspective, and I'm not against games being more reliant on narrative at all, but it was really hard for me to accept the game for what it was. I think it's a really good example for "of its time" for me.

I find virtually everyone at least in the West seem to praise Ace Combat 3 and 7 like they're some all time masterpiece while I find the former being dull glorified tech demo with edgy pretend-GITS story for the sake of being edgy, and the latter is incredibly boring even for story heavy Ace Combat standard yet doesn't help the story itself is atrociously bad no matter how much the fanbase keep letting them slip through development hell excuses. The Solo Leveling of flight genre, I'd even call it myself.

I enjoyed Batman: Arkham Origins, I heard it was hated but I never really understood why.

The OG Super Mario 64, i understand why people loves it, but for me it is a cluncky game that the more you play, the more you see the age wrinkles the controls and gameplay has, in all fairness Banjo-Kazooie is the best way a game like Mario could work

On the flipside, Sunshine is hardly bad, in fact i believe that is the game where 3D mario begun to shine

its excellent - some people are just stupid , i even went to the trouble of finding all the riddler trophies ( i never did that in the other games )

I 100% agree with you and second this, both for 64 and sunshine.

I feel like 64, while ground breaking in many respects (though I scoff at people who claim that it "revolutionized 3D Platformers") it kind of just feels a little empty in terms of the environments. But that's probably due to the hardware?

Sunshine was, how can I put this?, a very interesting experiment that I probably would have liked much more if not for the godforsaken challenge levels

Everyone says that the Life Is Strange series is composed of masterpieces... but I just found them bland, boring and restrictive (a grave "sin" for a decision-making game that effectively blocks you from straying even an inch from the intended fork on the road).

Nah, that’s not really a hot take. There are a lot of people out there who really hate the Life is Strange series. I only played the first game and thought it was awful. Chloe Price is one of the most unpleasant characters I’ve ever seen in a piece of fiction.

Yeah, it honestly feels like Chloe just craves death — having to rescue her dumb ass from herself gets tiring fast.

I don't understand how anyone could sympathize with her
IKR? The very first thing you see her do is getting herself in the line of fire as Nathan points a gun at her. And then she keeps making it worse with every other character she encounters.

But it's not JUST Chloe — the ENTIRE TOWN of Arcadia Bay is full of burnouts, antagonists, cliques or just complete drags to talk to. How do you even make a game in which everyone is this unlikable? Max herself looks and sounds like she's only half invested on it.

Zero Escape is the superior series
I can't agree personally.

I've played Zero Escape and tried to like it many times and it doesn't click.
Danganronpa on the other hand (of course, like sane people we need to exclude UDG ::sailor-embarrassed ) had me emotionally invested in the characters, the first game in particular knew how to write tension & gloom in masterful ways, it settles atmosphere like it was making a cozy bed out of it.

V3 in particular especially made me cry and really emotional at the result of some cases (if you know, you know)

I really need to give those games a try, I have them, I just haven't played them ::sailor-embarrassed

Really? I’ve always found the character writing in Danganronpa (just the first two games, I’ve never played V3) to be pretty one-note (with a few exceptions, like Komaeda, who’s a great character who hard carries Danganronpa 2; I didn’t really like the cast in that one, aside from a few exceptions like Ibuki and Fuyuhiko).

Call it nostalgia biased but I like this game, I like its atmosphere and the graphics imo aged really well, however in recent years it received such a negative reputation, the sequel is my personal favorite.

I'm also not a Life is Strange enjoyer. I also thought it was boring and I didn't vibe with the relationship that was supposed to be the main point of the game.
If you want a game with a coming-of-age growing-up story, lesbians, intrigue and don't mind putting the pieces of the story together and doing some investigation, try Gone Home.

I do enjoy Danganronpa a lot, but I do have some criticisms of how Kodaka writes women. And as much I like Nekomaru, the bathroom jokes grow old real fast. v3 felt like a bad joke that only Kodaka was laughing, he wrote himself into a corner many times trying to follow the exact same "formulas" from the previous games and imo it didn't work out. The idea itself was good, but the execution was poor.
But if you do enjoy Zero Escape and/or the Danganronpa series, I recommend Zanki Zero. It is from people who worked in the series, but without Kodaka and Uchikoshi. I also recommend the Somnium Files series.

I also have trouble vibing with Final Fantasy 6. I'm someone who have beaten FF2 (yes, the one with Firion) 4 times but I can't get into playing FF6.
Another classic everyone loves but I can't enjoy is Chrono Trigger. I enjoy Chrono Cross very much and yet Chrono Trigger is eeeeeh for me.
Both these SNES games I have tried very hard to get into. Tried in different points of my life, but nah.

Not too hot on Splinter Cell, compared to Metal Gear, those games are TOO realistic mechanically to be fun and engaging, sorry stealth players, but i take Metal Gear and Tenchu any day
