Games that everyone hate but you love. Or vice versa

Liked:
Earthworm Jim 3D
I honestly adore Earthworm Jim 3D. The concept of him going around in his head, with each part of his brain facilitating a different type of level fascinated me. Admittedly though, the bosses in it could have used some work.

Banjo Tooie
Maybe not overly hated, but in recent times with the caviot of rom hacks only really utilizing Kazooie I've seen some discourse, and while yeah it does fall under that collectathon hell that plagued Rare at the time, there's just something about it I find charming. I especially liked how much you could do with the bear and stinky bird. Also, wigwam.

Wii era branding slop games
Yes the very same, the iterations of TV game shows. I never minded them. Thought it was cool that they could made into a game.

Disliked:
The only real game that I do not like which I might catch some flak for sure is Undertale. Reason being, is that as a Mother fan, so much so that in my circle of Neanderthals I'm known for it, when it first came around it was presented to me as "If you like Earthbound you'll like Undertale" and sure while there's obvious influence with it's quirkiness and somewhat contemporary setting, it doesn't even come close as the same level.

Yeah! To some people it's all or nothing smh

Another one that gets a bad rep on the internet:
View attachment 454

It's good! It's tecnically impressive without to my knowledge using any extra chips on the cartridge, it controls well and you can even buffer jump and bounce around! Its got momentum and full 360 movement and good music, fun with the gamecube controller, I boot the rom once in a while
Just finished another playthrough of this. I agree it gets a bad rep because its not your "mainline" sonic games but this stands out as a GOOD unique game. It's not without its flaws but nothings perfect. The saturn version looks even cleaner and it has Full music tracks and a completely different 3D special stage from the Genesis version. And the Director's Cut fixed some of the bigger issues and added a bunch of features. Don't sleep if you haven't played it yall.

Any Castlevania Circle of The Moon defenders here?

Because i am one
I used to think it was terrible for years but changed my mind recently and gave it another go. Although I don't think it's terrible anymore it didn't really interest me enough to finish it.... I found harmony and aria to be a lot more fluid and the castles were fun to interesting explore

Circle of the moon was the first game in the series that i read about in nintendo power. it is also the first one that i got, played and beat.
it's a 10/10 game as far as i am concerned.

Metroid 1
Original Metroid doesn't get the love it deserves, but I hardly see anybody saying they hate it.

Metroid II on the Gameboy, on the other hand.. 😅

The big thread a lot of us are on right now is reminding me of this thread, so I’m about to bring in some positivity up in here:

This bum game. Right here. I know a lot of you probably know it too.

Look. It’s as deep as a puddle gameplay wise. It’s not like I’m grinding this out. I’m not playing tons of it. It’s clearly mechanically barren.

But it’s fun. And it’s cute. It’s basically a game that takes a bunch of anime tropes and makes them all fight each other. Every character has their own aesthetically matching commercial breaks in between matches. The game looks great, and a solid OST, and is just a general vibe.

It’s not great. For a full price game? Get the heck out of here. But I’m happy I own it. Just to pop it in every once in a while to just feel something. Play something different. Something that looks and sounds pretty. Something that, while simple, has moves that are satisfying to do thanks to hit effects and all that.
I played the heck out of this. It's fun seeing everyone's storyline like it's marathoning a bunch of 90s anime. It seriously floors me how this game never had spin offs about any of them!

I mean, is good for what it tried to do, but it feels archaic, the Zero Mission Remake may fortunately made it easier to navigate while still keeping the challenge of the OG one
Zero mission was phenomenal... I didn't like it at first but couldn't put it down after a few hrs.

it's like other Metroidvanias where the more powerups you get, the further you go. It's addicting because of that feedback loop. Then there's the whole speedrun scene.

I hate every game so I don't have this issue.

Castlevania 64:
It has it's flaws and is unpolished in many ways but for what it is it's amazing.
I believe that the AVGN review is mostly the reason for all the hate passed off as fact.
"What music, there is no music!" The music is atmospheric and the battle themes are quite good. Also the opening piece is one of my favorites of the series and I love to see the violin covers. The platforming in the first level was not a problem for me though I believe the reason for this discrepancy is the differences in N64 analog stick quality, ( as in how worn down the bowl is or how loose it makes the analog stick.) as my N64 controller was one with a tight stick that I got from Japan. The respawning enemies is one point of contention that I will admit can get annoying though it had been a staple in many of the other games in the series up to this point. The part in the castle center with the mandragora was easily done by me on my very first playthrough. The part where you have to carry the explosive nitro is annoying and quite hard and yet it wasn't out of character for a Castlevania game as they're supposed to be difficult. The statue puzzle was the singular hardest element in the entire game for me anyway. The thing that I find the most irksome about the AVGN review is how he mentions "Now I'm playing as like a school girl. It doesn't look anything like Castlevania anymore." I find this to be quite distasteful and derisive as Carrie Fernandez is my favorite character in the game. It's as if Maria Renard had never been in a Castlevania game before this not to mention Sypha. The real flaw and truly the biggest issue with this game is the beginner mode which is more of an extended demo that stops you from completing the game. They might not have bothered and left it out altogether. After having beat this game multiple times to unlock the various endings and get the alternate costumes I must say that I love this game. It remains one of my favorites in the series.

Castlevania Dracula X ( Snes )

Many people said that Rondo is much better than the Snes game and said its bad overall . I dont think so and i think it is really good . The Soundtrack is still peak , the challenge is superb and it has a really serious tone behind it with its different artstyle compared to Rondo of Blood .
Maria in Rondo just took out the serious attitude of castlevania away and the soundtrack is way to clean , sleak and rather lackluster to my taste.

Castlevania 64 / Legacy of darkness
( N64 )

I told it often and i go very short with it . Belongs to the best Castlevania games and was the true future of the franchise . AVGN ruined its reputation sadly .

Deus Ex : Invisible war ( PC/ Original Xbox )

I like the first game very much . But i like the second game too .Yeah , it was a bit too streamlined but its still a great game on its own and alot of topics that the game tackles are now reality too . And Alex has the perfect " im just done with everything "-attitude that gave him some really savage-quotes that i never expect to go that hard which even brought me to a sadistic laughter how relentlessly he brings them back to their position . I need to play it again . Its that good actually .

Metal Gear AC!D 1 & 2 ( PSP )

I played all the Metal Gears and i only like MGS1 , Ghost babel and Peace Walker . And especially the AC!D games ! That MGS fans dont like Spin-offs is clear as day (Revengeance for example) but while Revengeance was still an awesome game , i got a soft-spot for the AC!D games because of their stories and the gameplay overall .
I dont get the hate of those games . Especially the first AC!D game had a really great story .

Silent Hill 4 ( PC/PS2/Xbox )

Its great that this game finally gets some positive recognition but it still gets some hate from tge SH-fans. I can understand that SH4 isnt a typical SH game but its different approach makes it really fresh and i like how it makes you feel safe at your home but suddenly changed the rules and nothing is safe anymore. Great game from team silent and sadly their last one .

Silent Hill Origins ( PSP/PS2 )

For a Non-team-silent entry it was great . Yeah the game tinkered unnecessarly on the lore of SH 1 , screwed up the story with inconsistencies and misunderstood the characters of SH1 very much . But as an own take and Spin-off , its a really great horror game . And Travis Grady is one badass Trucker who even go with fists against thos SH-monsters one on one and even wins . Who would have thought that Beef Jerky , Burger and Monster Energy would make you into the next deadly Mike Tyson of the World Championship Gas-station-brawling ? Okay , only sprinting five meters to refuel with Energy-drinks can be good for anyone but being the keeper of the SH-monster-boxing-belt , you got to make sacrifices . And still is Travis an undefeated champion of true monster bashing . PEAK SH-character ( sadly not canon ) .

I like Legacy of Darkness. :) Turning into a werewolf was cool! He was really powerful with those swipes too! Never had Castlevania 64 back then. Just LOD.

Resident Evil 6
It's not that I love it, but honestly, I've never understood why people hate it so much. I mean, people criticize it for lacking horror and having too much action, but there’s never been horror in Resident Evil, and there has always been action since the beginning.

They also say, "It's so exaggerated that it's ridiculous," when Resident Evil has always been exaggerated and ridiculous. It's just more Resident Evil, but taken to the next level, and it’s been like that game after game since the beginning.

I think it's a great, fun (and funny) shooter, even if it's not my favorite Resident Evil. Except for the quick-time events. Even though I like them in video games, I agree there were too many.

sometimes horror isn't about just being scary; there are other ways to induce fear. from what i've seen from the older games in the series, you had access to guns, grenades and other weapons; but the focus was getting to the objective while conserving whatever resources that you had on hand. you never knew what was right around the corner, and if you would have something on hand to deal with whatever comes your way.
resident evil 6 seems to have moved away from survival horror and became a horror shooter game; which most people might not have wanted. the most well liked and received game in the series is the 4th one, which has a 80's b-movie vibe that everyone likes. from the line delivery to the monsters and enemies, subtle details like rescuing the dog early on helps you out later; the ridiculous plot and so on.

The game mechanics, controls, movement, moveset, diving, rolling, counter attacking, melee etc etc were the best evolution of the RE4 controls to date. For this alone I played the heck out of mercenaries No Mercy with a friend and it never got stale

Yeah . The game isnt bad because the gameplay was very cool and the mechanics that arent seen in gaming so often while being polished too aswell .

I didnt like the game because the gameplay was way too different and too good to make just an RE-sequel which changed the genre of the franchise into something way too action packed . RE4 already did that too and even RE5 somehow pushed it more out of the horror . But it was at the time when horror games overall died out and we got more action-horror that was generic and oversaturated .

Dino Crisis or a totally new Franchise would benefit from this gameplay way much better than RE .

This game fascinates me! I have poked fun of it but I don't actually hate it
TheGamedawg's 3 Videos essay about the game, he made me realize the game has some really interesting ideas but a lot of horrible executions.

Even sadder seeing the UNUSED content and the better cut ending because of the Dev's grief for his mother passing away!

I legit hope they will improve with the remake, YIIK Nameless Psychosis and pull a No Man's Sky redemption
From what I watched its writing structure, narrative and combat are way better
