Games that everyone hate but you love. Or vice versa

There is a very similar thread to this. I'll be merging the two momentarily.

As for DQ, I love the whole Zenithian trilogy. DQ6 is great.

Legend of Kage. Just because some fancypants internet dude said it was one of the worst games of all time everyone else repeated it without any self thought. I like the game a lot and it gets right to the oldschool ninja arcade action. If you compare it to other games made at that time, the controls and gameplay are very good and the game runs smooth.

Legend of Kage is a little too formless/primitive for me in terms of the level structure, but it's definitely not awful or anywhere close to "worst game" territory. It probably led to better (to me) ninja games being made a few years later once the rules of the genre became more defined.

Resident Evil 6. Everyone pummels it for being too action-y and abandoning the series survival horror theme. But to me Resi was always more action than horror - action-horror you might call - since literally every single game in the series escalated the action set pieces and over-the-top-ness. So to me Resi 6 was just the natural evolution/culmination of everything the series had built since 1996.

...apparently many disagree with me which why Resi 7 abandoned ALL of that to give us a pure horror game where we are in the shoes of an everyday man and not a trained soldier.

And don't get me wrong, 7 (and 8 by extension) are great games, but in MY world they aren't Resident Evil. I would have accepted them as spin-offs though.

Ive seen people crapping all over Tarzan on the ps1, but it's a nice game! Looks good, sounds nice, it's not Klonoa but it's a good enough simple platformer to breeze through

Chaos Legion on ps2 is also good I dont know whats up with youtubers trashing it; the only problem is that capcom USA screwed up the difficulty so jap hard is normal, making the game super grindy for no good reason
As long as you pick easy first it's a nice mosuo-style game with a very unique puppet mechanic and nice music and atmosphere

The same goes for Nanobreaker, yeah it's no devil may cry but it's still good in its own right and it's very technically advanced

Fire Emblem Fates does have a crummy story and terrible translation but once you install fan english patches + undub it's got pretty fun mechanics, its got a ton of variety and it's fun to mod and mess around with cheats, lots of unique maps, very well animated, good music, good dlc maps..
You can do a lot worst

Sonic CD is amazing if you dont play it like sonic 2 and play it like a 2d exploration game
Wow, another human being who knows about Chaos Legion!
I really loved that game too as a kid. The low rendering distance, esthetics, architecture and soundtrack gave it such a surreal vibe that nothing else managed to surpass it in my eyes.

Even now, when I hear the main menu theme, it fills me with a surreal feeling.

Deadly Towers. There's a good game hiding in there. It's just not executed well enough to be a truly fun experience. Get rid of the ridiculous enemy spawnage, the cheapo ledges of death, the awful "one at a time" sword throwing and add an in-game map and you have a pretty unique and varied experience. It's one of the games I wish would get remade even though I know it will never happen.

The big thread a lot of us are on right now is reminding me of this thread, so I’m about to bring in some positivity up in here:

This bum game. Right here. I know a lot of you probably know it too.

Look. It’s as deep as a puddle gameplay wise. It’s not like I’m grinding this out. I’m not playing tons of it. It’s clearly mechanically barren.

But it’s fun. And it’s cute. It’s basically a game that takes a bunch of anime tropes and makes them all fight each other. Every character has their own aesthetically matching commercial breaks in between matches. The game looks great, and a solid OST, and is just a general vibe.

It’s not great. For a full price game? Get the heck out of here. But I’m happy I own it. Just to pop it in every once in a while to just feel something. Play something different. Something that looks and sounds pretty. Something that, while simple, has moves that are satisfying to do thanks to hit effects and all that.

It's really not a good game, but a friend rented it for us all to play one afternoon. I remember it fondly, because his older sister was throwing a *fucking rager* downstairs at the same time, and banned us from coming down and being involved.

Then someone called the cops, and every idiot that didn't jump in the back of a pickup - or hop a fence and disappear like a suburban sasquatch - came and hid upstairs with us till the patrolmen left. Turned into a real wild session of Evil Zone, with a bunch of drunken teens cheering for each match like it was the Super Bowl.

Here is my list:

Games you like but everyone else hates:
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2006
Ok i understand this game is glitchy as hell, however if you look past the glitches i think it's a fun game. Not on-par as the Adventure games it was trying to mimic but really fun to playthrough nonetheless.
  • Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
  • Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt
I know they are cheesy sonic ripoff's and that the one hit kill in bubsy's case is not good but besides that the music is amazing, i like the level design and how bubsy and awesome possum controls.
  • Mega Man and Mega Man 3 for DOS
Besides the janky and the weird level design in 3 and lack of music the games are pretty good not on the same level as the NES games but still a fun runthrough.

  • Mega Man 1-5 on the gameboy
Im surprised people don't like these games since their really solid games again not on the same level as the NES games but they are fun and are solid mega man games on the go.

Games you don't like but everyone else likes:

I did try to get into these all of these games but sadly i couldn't get into. If you love these games that's great i wish i was in your situation lol. Also some are shorter than others this isn't because i didn't explore much of the game's its just because i don't have much to say because most of my feelings for those games are based on surface level expectations i have for what games i want to play.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Sadly this is a game i could never get into, I think the game can be a bit to confusing at times and is very to mazey for my taste and i always thought Link controlled weirdly.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
Sadly again games i can't get into, The game goes to slow for my taste and the same issue from the link to the past pretty much applies here.
  • Super Mario Sunshine
This game would be good if it wasn't a 3d mario game. If this was any other platformer series i would consider it decent games. However the standards Super Mario 64 put really hampers this game to be mediocre. Out of all the games i have not liked i REALLLY tried to get into this one the most. Bosses are reused which sucks, level design is extremely basic and simplistic and Mario's moveset is mediocre even F.L.O.O.D controls weirdly.

  • Luigi's Mansion Series
All these games seems more like a tech demo's then a full-on game. The level designs can get very confusing at times and the game gets really repetitive at times. Each of the games didnt really improve on each other And the games are pretty short. If these were pack in titles on their respected system i would think it was good but full-on games is kinda crazy.

  • Metroid and Super Metroid
I like the idea of the open roam aspect of these games however sadly they made the level design is to confusing and a maze leading to nowhere and metroid controlled really weird especially in Super Metroid.

  • Castlevania Symphony Of the Night
This and Super Mario Sunshine are games i tried extremely hard to get into but could not. Maybe its because im not a big fan of metroidvanias or maybe because Im just used to the classic castlevania formula but i could not get into this game at all. The game seems extremely slow especially compared to the games that came before. The game is confusing, even more confusing in my opinion then Castlevania 2. Probably because i'm use to confusing platformers more than confusing metroidvania games. (I like Castlevania 2 tho don't get me wrong.)

This is my list hopefully i don't get flamed ::injured.

I like the PS2 Crash Bandicoot era, I like just about every Sonic game, Doom 3, Quake 4. List goes on.

I think Soulslikes are doodoo except for a select few like Nioh, and none of the ones I like are from FromSoft. Still might try to go through Demon's Souls one day and see if I can change my mind.

Regardless of how good they are or not I don't think any of the Nintendo games coming out are good enough to waste money on underpowered overpriced hardware, with each game being 70 dollars, now 90-100 dollars.

I also agree PS2 era crash bandicoot was good i didn't play the spin off games but the main series games especially Wrath Of Cortex and Twinsanity are amazing hell i say they are even on par with the original PS1 series. I'm surprised people didn't like those games. Maybe because the Gamecube and Xbox ports of those games were bad.

I also like anything Sonic (except sonic Jam on the game.com but that's a extreme case)

For Nintendo only time i would spend $70 on is a 3D mario game. Any other case for modern Nintendo games i would just play through other means.

game I like that everyone else hates:

- Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Game I hate that everyone else likes:

- The Outer Wilds

There's like a million of these exact threads already, and they're always active and high up in the forums, so why not just post in them instead of making yet another one.

Star Fox Zero is a game I love that I don’t think deserves the hate. The controls take getting used to but once you do it feels like you’re controlling a very sophisticated RC drone or something. I feel like most people who hate on it never even played it and just parrot ignorant YouTubers.

Beloved games I can’t get into include pretty much every big PlayStation game from the past 2 generations like the Spiderman series, new God of War and their various 3rd person games. They all look nice but the gameplay is too simple for me.

A game everyone seems to like but I don't:

NiGHTS into Dreams on the Saturn. I don't find it super easy to control, it feels repetitive. It looks pretty good for a Saturn title but after a few minutes I get bored.

Two games I like but it seems like everyone doesn't:

Both Wipeouts on the PSP

The reason why my account is so old is because i made a account to use the RGT repo when cdromance migrated over their.

I think the topic is pretty broad - basically "here's some games I like and some games I don't like" - but I suppose there isn't a specific thread asking for *both* of those things, just several for either overrated or underrated games and the like. It should be fine, and I don't think these comments would fit neatly merged in another thread; just keep an eye out that a new topic doesn't overlap too much with another active one going forward!

Game I hate but everyone else loves: Horizon series

Horizon: I couldn't get into this series at all and I really tried too, but it really feels like one of those overused open world games with nothing to do other than the generic side quests your tasked to complete if you feel like it. I couldn't bother finishing the first game so I ended up watching the cutscenes on YT but I managed to finish second game and by the time I did, I ended up trading in both of those games for Visions of Mana.

I will give the game this, the worldbuilding is cool and it has Lance Reddick (RIP) in it.

Game I like but everyone else hates: Sly Cooper 4

Sly 4: I'll agree with everyone and say that the story is terrible if you're a Sly Cooper fan (like me) and mediocre at best if you're not a fan at all. However, I ended up enjoying the gameplay more as then the story itself. I also enjoyed the 2D animations as they added a bit of charm to the game. However, I will never forgive them for turning Penelope into a villain out of thin air.

Mario Odyssey is mid. The movement is less interesting than Mario 64, the gimmicks often interrupt the flow of the gameplay and Nintendo Hired This Man for the aesthetic.

Also I don't know if I said this before, but Castlevania 64 is my favorite game.

I do not enjoy any Mario games.
I’ve enjoyed a lot of fairly terrible sonic games. Series is still bad though.

Every one seams to hate Fallout 76 I love it. It´s basically more fallout 4 so I love it because 4 is my favorite.

Every one and their mother love TLOU 2 and I hate it´s cuts crappy story which they butchered thanks to a certain idiot hating Joel because he was a white male. And rest of the story just teenage angst drama. The whole game went from survive post apocalyptic world to teenage love and angst problem. Almost made me cringe to death.

I rely don´t like Breath of the wild. I mean it´s a good game but I prefer the old classic like link to the past.

I rely dislike Metriod prime because it´s first person and jumping puzzles in first person is ass and honestly Im more fan of the old 3 classics.

I love No man sky and Cyberpunk even when they where hated at the start.

I enjoyed Sly 4 in spite of its weak writing and infuriating cliffhanger ending. Gameplay-wise, it may be the best out of all of them in spite of some overlong minigames and dated mechanics, like motion controls

Fair enough! All good, I just figured I’d point it out ::peacemario

Now as for the topic at hand…

Game I ”hate” that everyone else loves:
Mario Odyssey and Witcher 3 come to mind. I don’t hate them outright, but I can’t get into them for various reasons and find them kind of boring.

Game I love that everyone else hates:
Probably none tbh, but I’m a pretty big defender of modern WoW, and Blizzard games in general because I still find all of them pretty fun, even if most of them might be worse than their predecessors.
