It has it's flaws and is unpolished in many ways but for what it is it's amazing.
I believe that the AVGN review is mostly the reason for all the hate passed off as fact.
"What music, there is no music!" The music is atmospheric and the battle themes are quite good. Also the opening piece is one of my favorites of the series and I love to see the violin covers. The platforming in the first level was not a problem for me though I believe the reason for this discrepancy is the differences in N64 analog stick quality, ( as in how worn down the bowl is or how loose it makes the analog stick.) as my N64 controller was one with a tight stick that I got from Japan. The respawning enemies is one point of contention that I will admit can get annoying though it had been a staple in many of the other games in the series up to this point. The part in the castle center with the mandragora was easily done by me on my very first playthrough. The part where you have to carry the explosive nitro is annoying and quite hard and yet it wasn't out of character for a Castlevania game as they're supposed to be difficult. The statue puzzle was the singular hardest element in the entire game for me anyway. The thing that I find the most irksome about the AVGN review is how he mentions "Now I'm playing as like a school girl. It doesn't look anything like Castlevania anymore." I find this to be quite distasteful and derisive as Carrie Fernandez is my favorite character in the game. It's as if Maria Renard had never been in a Castlevania game before this not to mention Sypha. The real flaw and truly the biggest issue with this game is the beginner mode which is more of an extended demo that stops you from completing the game. They might not have bothered and left it out altogether. After having beat this game multiple times to unlock the various endings and get the alternate costumes I must say that I love this game. It remains one of my favorites in the series.

I like Legacy of Darkness. :) Turning into a werewolf was cool! He was really powerful with those swipes too! Never had Castlevania 64 back then. Just LOD.

They also say, "It's so exaggerated that it's ridiculous," when Resident Evil has always been exaggerated and ridiculous. It's just more Resident Evil, but taken to the next level, and it’s been like that game after game since the beginning.


I think it's a great, fun (and funny) shooter, even if it's not my favorite Resident Evil. Except for the quick-time events. Even though I like them in video games, I agree there were too many.

sometimes horror isn't about just being scary; there are other ways to induce fear. from what i've seen from the older games in the series, you had access to guns, grenades and other weapons; but the focus was getting to the objective while conserving whatever resources that you had on hand. you never knew what was right around the corner, and if you would have something on hand to deal with whatever comes your way.
resident evil 6 seems to have moved away from survival horror and became a horror shooter game; which most people might not have wanted. the most well liked and received game in the series is the 4th one, which has a 80's b-movie vibe that everyone likes. from the line delivery to the monsters and enemies, subtle details like rescuing the dog early on helps you out later; the ridiculous plot and so on.

The game mechanics, controls, movement, moveset, diving, rolling, counter attacking, melee etc etc were the best evolution of the RE4 controls to date. For this alone I played the heck out of mercenaries No Mercy with a friend and it never got stale

Yeah . The game isnt bad because the gameplay was very cool and the mechanics that arent seen in gaming so often while being polished too aswell .

I didnt like the game because the gameplay was way too different and too good to make just an RE-sequel which changed the genre of the franchise into something way too action packed . RE4 already did that too and even RE5 somehow pushed it more out of the horror . But it was at the time when horror games overall died out and we got more action-horror that was generic and oversaturated .

Dino Crisis or a totally new Franchise would benefit from this gameplay way much better than RE .

This game fascinates me! I have poked fun of it but I don't actually hate it
TheGamedawg's 3 Videos essay about the game, he made me realize the game has some really interesting ideas but a lot of horrible executions.

Even sadder seeing the UNUSED content and the better cut ending because of the Dev's grief for his mother passing away!

I legit hope they will improve with the remake, YIIK Nameless Psychosis and pull a No Man's Sky redemption
From what I watched its writing structure, narrative and combat are way better

The SNES version of this game is one upon whose hill I will gladly lay down my life defending. The only aspects of Ys III: Wanderers From Ys that I disliked was the corny ending and the SNES rendition of the song 'Tearful Twilight'. I loved everything else about this game - the graphics, the fantastic music (I said it, and I'm glad I said it), the story & characters, the absolutely perfect controls, etc. I've played every version of Ys III and, prior to the complete remake (Ys: The Oath in Felghana), the SNES version is the one I played and loved the most.

The Oath in Felghana completely obliterates this game in every way imaginable, though.

I do, however, find the switch-up with the final boss, Galbalan, interesting. In Ys III you have to find a way through an island maze, climb a big-ass tower, take a mystical elevator up higher, and from there Galbalan descends from the sky like a God, even though it's described in-game as a demon. In Oath, you have to do much the same except you're descending deeper and deeper into the island to face Galbalan, who is worshipped by some in-game as a God. Even though, either way, it was merely a corrupted self-sentient creation of man and not a divine/demonic being.

I will be the first to admit that Spider-Man and the X-MEN in Arcade's Revenge was not a great game. Besides that LJN logo, it was made by...Software Creations. The concept of the game (grab 4 random X-Men and chuck them into murder-traps themed around their own person fears) was fantastic. The mjusic is legendary. And this is the first game to get controlling Spider-Man right. No other game before this not only gave Spider-Man his own web-swing button, but made its length adjustable mid-flight.

Both of these games are, to me, stupidly FUn to play. Wanderers From Ys is a pretty easy game so long as you don't try to blitz through it under-leveled (and how the world loves that one spot in the mines where enemies can't hit you but you can hit them, and they constantly respawn). Arcade's Revenge is, in turn, an Obnoxio The Clown hard game where each level is, by and large, as much a puzzle as a maze. Yet each level has their own tricks to make things easier (sheathing Wolverine's claws when destroying Mobster-in-the-Box will always drop large hearts; that one spot in Gambit's first stage that will rack-up 40-extra lives per run)
 
Castlevania Dracula X ( Snes )

Many people said that Rondo is much better than the Snes game and said its bad overall . I dont think so and i think it is really good . The Soundtrack is still peak , the challenge is superb and it has a really serious tone behind it with its different artstyle compared to Rondo of Blood .
Maria in Rondo just took out the serious attitude of castlevania away and the soundtrack is way to clean , sleak and rather lackluster to my taste.

I told it often and i go very short with it . Belongs to the best Castlevania games and was the true future of the franchise . AVGN ruined its reputation sadly .
I love Dracula X on the SNES and Rondo of Blood both. I feel like people have come around a bit on Dracula X in recent years.

The 64 games are great, I'll take them over the Lords of Shadow games anyday.

This game wasn't great, but I gotta say for a game that was so hard, losing was always kinda fun coz you got to try your hand at beating the impossible demon every time! Great movie with a fantastic score too.
 
Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance.

This games is widely hated by a large subset of the Castlevania community but i don't know, i actually like it. Sure it's not as great as the almighty Aria of Sorrow (which is Superior to SotN @ me if you fucking dare). The music sounds much more inspired than Circle of the Moon's Midi-sounding ass, its the only time in the franchise where the music actually feels tense and dare i say.....kinda scary.

I just love the GBA's Soundchip (when it's not trying to be SNES-lite) as it gave the console its own identity. I like Juste Belmont's design and character, Maxim is a cool secret unlockable, and the Magic System while not as deep as CotM, it's far easier to obtain (you have to explore the castle instead of grinding your ass for hours) and doesn't feel like wasted potential as CotM's magic did, oh and there's an actual shop this time around.

It's also the only metroidvania (outside of Simon's Quest and Portrait of Ruin if you consider the Morris Clan Belmonts) where a Belmont is the protagonist, something that honestly should have happened more often.

I loved it. The chiptune music was kinda cool. It made me wonder if it was meant for the Game Boy Color. It still plays like SOTN.

I disagree. To me this was RE5 and RE6 changed things to be overall worse. It still plays more the same than not but I really, really did not feel RE6 and had hard time trying to be as proficient playing it than I am with RE5, and thanks to all the RE5, in RE4.

For me, the answer is RE5. It is not these days as hated but since it's first PC release in 2009, if there is anyone around who is willing to play the game I will be there. Played way too much yet way too little of RE5 and I just can set aside anything and spend evening or three playing the game one more time with same or different friend than last time. To me it was a sidegrade to Left 4 Dead in some ways, as having fun in L4D was harder with just one friend as you would have either bots or randoms messing the dynamic while 5 can be played with just one friend and gives a longer campaign.

I can understand why some like RE6 too but I personally never felt it the same, it has huge pacing issues to me, levels drag way too long without a "save point". The thing I remember about RE5 is that it is sliced nice and neat to 10-20 minute gameplay chapters that is easy to go "Alright, I wanted to go to sleep so we can end here" while my most prominent memory about RE6 was a 55 minute chapter that went on and on and on and on. "OK, cutscene and fade to black let's go I want to-" RUNNING QUICKTME EVENT. "OK and now it is en-" MORE GAMEPLAY. "OK, now it is ov-" BOSS FIGHT. This alone to this day makes me shudder over idea of playing RE6. Aside there being so much of the game that can be a good thing, the chapters are not sliced as neatly as in RE4 or RE5 which it as a multiplayer focused game should definitely have done.

Going back to RE5. For me, yeah it is not an horror game, but it has good horror elements, I would call it "action thriller" type of video game. "Aliens" of video games or whatever like that. But also, to me, even if it is "more limited" 5 Controls the best, has a very unique setting, and even if people would like to point out it as racist and the explanations are pretty lol worthy, the variety between enemies is nice thanks to variety of a slice of Africa being depicted. I also personally do not think the game is very racist, misguided in some places and goes into using some stereotypes, especially tribal ones and mixing Mayas with African tribals, but over all to me RE5 is one thing in my mind that reminds me how rest of the world treats Africa when we are not thinking about it. It is very exploited place even today. For RE plot, a medical company setting up inhumane experiments as guise of aid exploiting disadvantaged people, indifferent to lives killed is a harrowing plot point.

I actually really enjoyed it, But i only played the Definitive Edition mod version and not the original!

Thought I got lost twice and had to look for a guide

I LOVED SONIC HEROES

it may be nostalgia talking since it was one of the ones i got with my GCN or my luck of not playign the PS2 version (i heard in a review it was the worst version) but i actually enjoyed the levels, i admid some of the levels are real awkard, but seriously, is one of the few times in which Amy and Cream are playable in a Mainline game, also the msuc was fire (cheat positive, most of Sonic games has fire music) but what i liked was the fact it felt like a true classic Sonic in 3d (Until Colors) with its creative worlds and carefree plot

Agreed the story /pacing etc was flawed. But the mechanics / gameplay are the most evolved and you have more ways to dispatch hordes of zombies and it's very polished. As I said, I loved mercenaries mode. Didn't ever bother to finish 5 or 6 story mode.
 
Call of Duty Ghosts is one of my favorite games in the series, but it's absolutely mental.

The story and plot are some of the most over the top, corny, pro american stuff, but played COMPLETELY STRAIGHT, which makes it hilarious!
The basic plot is about the South American countries uniting to invade the US for oil, who's last bastion, a gigantic space cannon, is taken out. It's now on a super special squad of elite soldiers to free the collapsing America. But one of their oldest members who was presumed to be dead turns out to be alive, and working for the enemy::eek.
The story gets insane to the point it becomes Tom Clancy's: Kingdom Hearts, and all in service of a linear, kinda generic shooter
That all being said, the second half of the game blasts off with the "Federation Day" mission, and doesn't let go with the exciting set pieces and levels. Also I used to play the multipalyer a lot with friends and it's pretty solid (except for that boring alien mode that only gets good with the last few dlc levels). Not to mention that this was one of the first games that I got really into easter egg hunting.
Ghosts is like a good Mission Impossible movie, or some other action popcorn flick. Which is a lot more than what can be said of the torrent of other Moder Warfare clones from the mid 2010's.

Without this game I never would have ran into Running Shine and their review of it.
The reviews those guys made are legitimately in contention for my favorite videos on the internet.
It's sad but completely understandable that they don't wan't to make more.

Silent Hill: Downpour.

I literally feel so strongly about this one that I've had a Writer's Guild application in my draft documents for weeks that goes into the whole backstory of how the devs were fucked over by the publisher.

While it was basically unplayable at launch due to a rush to meet the deadline, it's now been patched and fixed enough that the original vision shines through, and it's a hell of a well-made vision IMO.

Literally uses the town in the way it was supposed to be used: as a meta-physical representation of the duotragonist's psyches that manifests as literal monsters. All of the monsters make sense under the broader context, and it's just an excellent Silent Hill experience.

While we're at it, Origins is also fun and the weapon-breaking mechanic isn't that bad for a horror game. People ned to chill.

Cat Mario was just infuriating, i didn't hate it. lol It was like Kaizo Mario and I Wanna Be The Guy.

Although it is not perfect, Silent Hill Downpour was the Silent Hill more Silent Hill since Origins. Yes it had technical problems, but it shouldn't be something that overshadows its virtues as Silent Hill.
