The Genesis/Mega-Drive was a huge system with loads of games. It's inevitable that some of them fade into the background of people's memories as the years pass on.

I'd like to see some of your guy's picks for games that have practically faded into complete obscurity, more or less games that are almost never mentioned or seen.

My pick would probably have to go to this one personally.

The Ooze, it came out very late in the Genesis life in 1995 made by the same team that made Comix Zone. You play as this pile of green ooze monster with a top overview that's weird and unique. The game has no hud, cause the Ooze slime character you control is the hud.

Anything you can't find a youtube video of is the perfect example.

the sad truth is that the majority of old games have been forgotten. Feels like there's an endless well of old stuff to re-discover.
Anyway my pick for a Gen/MD game is Pyramid Magic, one of the games released on the Sega Game Toshokan service. However it did get a physical release as part of a compilation on the Mega CD called "Game no Kanzume Vol .1". It's a platform puzzle game where you move blocks around, grab the stage's treasure and then reach the exit.

Plenty of people still know or remember Sonic 1. Considering its in compilation ports all of the time.

No remembers the Genesis ports of Crude Buster, aka Two Crude Dudes, nor Growl. Both which are great and decent ports respectively.

This is going to sound crazy, but I remember playing a shitty reskin of this game on miniclip back in the day. Seeing that screen in particular made me recall it....

Custom Robo

I've heard some aspects of the IP straight up expired. it's obscure even for Nintendo games. if it weren't an assist/trophy/spirit the smash games I feel like no one would even know it exists anymore.

Custom Robo on Genesis? This is news to me.

This is definitely something new to me. Very intriguing. It looks fun for what it is. I'll have to see if I can give it a go sometime! Thanks for the contribution.

Whoops! hahaha, honest mistake.

okay, I raise you... Alien solider. it a super sick game, but I never see it in the big splash screen of sega classics like shinobi, altered beast, and ecco.
No physical US release is a big reason why, in that case. Same for Pulseman, if I had to guess. Not enough people had Sega Channel back then. ::cirnoshrug

I noticed Batman for the Genesis is often forgotten due to the more prominent Batman NES version. Plus it was released late in the U.S. more than a year later after the NES version and two years after the movie.

I bought the Japanese version on launch which was released about a year before the U.S. version. In my case, I played the game at a game center before and the music just hooked me. Batman was one of the main reasons why I bought my Mega Drive in the first place and bought it at the same time I got the Mega-Drive. It's such an overlooked well crafted game. I suppose it got forgotten in the west due to it's late release when the movie wasn't as prominent anymore plus reviewers called it...easy? And thus less hardcore than the NES version.

Well on my part, I played it on hard routinely, rarely used batarangs and only used Batman's fists on every boss. It wasn't that much easier when played that way.

The last official licensed title - it would have been forgotten had it not been the final retail release (it's just a port of the arcade version)

This game was one of the first to let player ride along city in 3d. Lost to GTA series.

I feel like its place in history is that it's notable for being the example that US gaming magazines used to point out Nintendo's shady exclusivity practices at the time. In hindsight I wish they would've focused solely on that and not painted this title like the west was being deprived of a game that was going to set the new standard for licensed games or something. When we finally did get it, it's fine, but perfect for this thread because it is easily forgettable; it follows the movie well and is a totally fine experience, but is overshadowed by every other Batman game on the platform due to how woefully subpar those ones are.

It kind of feels like kismet because Sega licensed the game for arcades in the 80s. Nice little cap off for the console even if it's just a straight arcade point

As for me, two words: Death Duel
