I'm having a blast with this game. I'm not even halfway through it yet, but I know for a fact I'm gonna miss it when I put it down.
So I'd like to hear some recommendations of games that resemble this one.

I'm looking for something with a resemblant melancholic atmosphere and story, unique combat system and, preferably, with a similar aesthethic or art direction.

For example: if I had to make this recommendation, I'd point out games such as Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Xanadu Next, The Last Remnant and Lost Odyssey.
All these games aren't much alike, but I believe that, based on the description I wrote above, might be recommended just fine.

Thank you in advance!

The Nier games, and Drakengard if you can stomach how.. well, not good they are in the atmosphere and story.

That's in reference to Drakengard specifically. Nier Automata and the remake of the first Nier play pretty damn well.

Maybe 13 Sentinels if you are okay with it being mech-centric as opposed to standard fantasy. Or Unicorn Overlord by the same company which is a strategy game with gambits like FFXII. Vanillaware games in general are incredible artistically, though more cartoony than what you were describing. They are almost all composed by The same man who composed the music for Final Fantasy XII and Vagrant Story, so has a similar vibe in that sense.

Koudelka on PS1 is a horror RPG that has a gothic Aesthetic, unique gameplay and in a strange way reminds of of Vagrant story.

Folklore on PS3 is a very unique and atmospheric RPG that I haven't really played anything else like.

Tsugunai atonement on PS2.

Ico/Shadow of the Colossus/The Last Guardian 'series' of games. Action/Adventure games with a similiar aesthetic vibe to some of the games you mentioned.

Legend of Legaia for PS1 certainly doesn't have high end graphics (Think FFVII with lego characters outside battle, but decent models in battle) Has a very unique combat system and somber atmosphere and tone. If you do play this one though, make sure to play with the version on this site that returns the exp and money accrual rate to the japanese versions. The US Version added a bunch of grinding for absolutely no reason and it really hurts the games pacing.

Sorry Kept editing the post with new suggestions as I thought of them

I also really like the vibe you are describing, so am hoping that others bring some up I'm not familiar with.

gameplay wise, there is a game called indivisible who has a similar combat to the vlakirye games, althogh it can be a little glitchy depending on what platform you play it, switch has multiplayer tho
