Games heavily inspired by real events?

Visual novels are games, I've had this debate with so many people.
Don't worry lol I've had this exact debate as well, but was not sure how people here feel about it so I had to preface it.

Got any good arguments to make people understand? I've basically just given up trying as it has never yielded results

The VN are games debate is something I stay out of because at the end of the day VNs are sold on steam they’re not sold in a movie theater they’re not sold in a bookstore so they’re games not books not movies not chicken not spaghetti they’re games.

What Yousef said, they're on Steam, they're on consoles. Typically, VNs have gameplay elements in them, an example would be the Ace Attorney series. Sure, traditional VNs may not have any real gameplay besides just reading, but at the end of the day if it isn't on paper or some kind of digital book format it's a videogame.
Visual novel is a videogame genre, just like third person shooter, first person shooter, platformer and the list goes on. I mean, it's in the name itself "VISUAL" novel, meaning there is an element here at play where you need to visually see what's on the screen, a book can be read to you by someone else, VNs heavily rely on the medium for art, animations and again in some cases gameplay elements.
This doesn't diminish or devalue VNs as an art form or literature, if anything it makes them more unique and a different kind of experience to a regular book or comic book, it's just that in my experience a lot of VN fans think that having their favourite genre labelled as a videogame is some kind of bad thing for some stupid reason.

Trauma Team, the final Trauma Center game on the Wii, has a plot that's very clearly meant to be about the 2008-2009 Swine Flu scare. It's about a full team of medical professionals racing against the clock to quarantine and cure a virus before it spreads to pandemic level. It's actually kind of unique game, even in the Trauma Center series, because it isn't just surgery – there's a lot of virology and epidemiology stuff in there, too. Neat game, but you have to be OK with motion controls.

Actually, now that I think about it, some of the earlier Trauma Center games kinda comment on stem cell research and a lot of general distrust between patients and doctors, too, which were hot-button issues in the 2000s. I'm sure they'll never make a new one of these, but if they do, it's 100% going to have some COVID-19 stuff.

Its kind of dumb to argue that VNs aren't video games. They have gameplay, choices, they have win conditions, a beginning and end. They have all of the necessary elements of games.
