I remember watching AVGN review Final Fight games and he talked abt Final Fight Streetwise with Matt McMuscles, and when they explained it, it sounded very very unappealing, but recently I have a friend really into Final Fight Streetwise and so I gave it a shot and......I.LOVED.IT!!!!!! It's a such an interesting game and silly game, with a pretty solid combat system. Plus the soundtrack has some of the BEST music in there, it's a vibe and a chill game to play! I can't even see how people can even dislike this game!

I mean, Yathzee was always harsh with JRPGs in Zero Punctuation (the only exception was with Ys), most of the ones he didn't like, i did like, like Ni no kuni or Octopath.

Very good topic!

I never got why yhatzee's so popular

I remember he really hated metal gear solid 4 haha

This is why I never listen to what other says about a game they may hate it I might love it. People should learn to form their own opinions.

As the saying some mans trash maybe some ones else treasure.
I agree I agree, as I grew up I learned that many people's tastes are very different from each other, I mostly took game reviews like that as gospel when I was like 10-13 years old XD. Very silly looking back on it

His overly negative reviews are funny, and the way he delivers them had a charm to it.

When he did like the game, he did say what he liked about it as well.

He was just very harsh with JRPGs.

In my case was Risen 1

And DMC 4

(The Spanish title says: Why DMC 4 is crap in my opinion)

Also a special mention about how the media destroyed the original Nier back then.

Nothing can replace firsthand experience. Watching video reviews inevitably creates biases.

I think he straight didn't like or get the genre
Yeah 100% he said himself he doesn't like them, but the higher ups wanted him to review what was popular.

At least he was accurate with the mechanics and story, he just made fun of the rest.

You're not wrong. I'm a Yahtzee-enjoyer but I also understand that he has his unique taste in games and it doesn't remotely match mine. He hated Child of Light and I absolutely love that game! I'm happy he introduced it to me lol

What a lot of people don't seem to get about game reviewers is that they can't and shouldn't appeal to everyone's tastes. It's up to you to find a reviewer who has preferences similar to yours. It's not going to be a perfect match but the closer you can get, the more relevant that reviewer's opinions will be.

To quote the masterpiece of our time, Ishuzoku Reviewers.

As long as the information provided is accurate and presented in a sincere manner, the score doesn't matter.
Good point. I suppose some spectacle is to be expected along with facts, too.

Ah I didnt know he was commissioned to do reviews

Cause he made fun of them for being corny, no shit? It's like saying "Why are are horror games so dark??"

Well, sadly on the Internet it's easier to repeat a famous Youtuber's opinion over actually trying the game.

sonic R gets a bad rep because of jontron, but its really not that bad. same for banjo kazooie nuts and bolts.
I'd still say that it's a mediocre to decent racing game simply because there are merely 5 tracks and the unlockable characters are robot version of existing ones when they could've added Team Hooligan (Fang, Bean and Bark from Sonic The Fighter) or the Chaotix....

However I do think that the mistake was to sell this game as a Mario Kart clone when secretly it's a racing platforming game and that when you use a dedicated button to run and the L and R buttons to drift the game becomes way, waaaaay more playable but obviously reviewers don't take time to learn the gameplay...

Playing the PC port with a special launcher that added many QoL like widescreen, the original Saturn lighting among other thing (like faster menu cursor speed) is the definitive way to play the game like Sonic 3 AIR.

Nuts 'n Bolts' biggest mistake was being a Banjo & Kazooie game when people wanted Threeie instead (and the ugly redesign that looked even blockier than N64 models lmao).

Mega Man & Bass. Youtubers say it's bad, but they're clearly just salty that the game demands skill and won't let them cheese by gobbling E-Tanks.

That's pretty much the only way I do it. All the games they like I hate, so I only try the ones they hate. Hate most of those too though. Fun to watch them rant either way.

i remember back in 2017 AlexElCapo a quite famous Spanish (from Spain) youtuber just threw shit at Xenoblade Chronicles 2, he skipped all the tutorials, didn't read shit, and proceeded to get fricked for only using the autoattacks and therefore "the game is shit", some people shouldn't be allowed near a mic EVER.
The game was barely bought in Spain due to that.

Final Fantasy II. While the leveling mechanic is a hassle to manage, in practice, it becomes quite intuitive. What really peeves me about that game is the amount of backtracking and the dungeon layout.

Armored Core V/VD
Not only youtube but reddit as whole keeping telling that 5th gen armored core was trash, but after i played them, not only they are really solid but also become my favorite ac game( Verdict Day)

Sonic R is great. Anyone who disagrees is a zoomer brainwashed by social media and I will die on this obnoxious closed-minded hill.

For me, it's Virtual Hydlide on Saturn. The game still looked very cool to me after watching AVGN play it, and my instincts were right!

In all honesty, I don't really feel the need to defend a game that people hate. The way I see it, if you enjoy a game everybody hates, that's more power to you. Anything else is a waste of energy in pursuit of a shallow sense of social validation.

james from AGVN said some nasty things about castlevania 64, while SOTN is better by a huge margin, i loved every second of it, it a pretty down to earth adventure, the same goes for castlevania 2, i personally think its the worst one of the original trilogy, but i dont think its that bad, i hated it the first time i played, but slowly it grew on me, like a tumor, and i personally think these games deserve a second look at, on a side note, james mentioned his favorite one was super castlevania 4, i think that game sucks, so i guess we just have different opinions on this matter... fecal matter that is haha

i also thought it looks sick, i've always had a fascination for retro rpgs, you know, just a straight up medieval adventure that's gonna make you feel like you're in a fantasy book, i might want to check virtual hydlide once i get a sega saturn
