What video games cannot be experienced again and for what reason?

Elemental Gearbolt requires a CRT TV and Light Gun peripheral.
Guitar Hero PS2 plastic guitar controller is broken.
Rock Band peripherals are expensive and brittle.

it is two player. two people can play it together. R.O.B. was just a weird experiment to have a robot play a game with you. still a pretty cool experiment nonetheless.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was assuming too at first haha, and was gonna reply with Dark Souls, but I agree with OP about the Guitar Hero thing especially. Loved those games.

gimmick games? retro gimmicks. gimmick games of the golden era. probably something along those lines, i guess.

You can totally play Elemental Gearbolt without the gun. It's not ideal, but you can.

I think just "games that had weird peripherals/gimmicks" fits? Like the Alex Kidd BMX game, or that Famicom boxing game that had an inflatable thing you hit, etc.

I'm not sure though, maybe it's possible to use your headset as the mic on Dolphin?

The MMO specifically I wanted to bring up is Star Wars Galaxies. It could have been great but they flumped it.

I never had a chance to play Star Wars Galaxies but I generally heard positive things from those who played it. So many early era MMOs didn't survive the Everquest/World of Warcraft onslaught. It is a shame.

At first I thought of the general concept of a game designed for a specific period of time with specific hardware and peripherals that the experience is impractical to recreate.

Dance Dance Revolution arcade machine.

I did think of Steel Battalion and the unique controller.

Galaxian 3 in the arcade, or possible an R360 setup, or possibly the Ridge Racer that had a Miata

At home, official metal Konami DDR pads were over $1000 on NCS at one point, so probably that?

It's a terribly boring game that required a specific controller for optimal input (pictured on the box).
