Emile and Valyx from Dragalia Lost. Emile spends the game's first few chapters trying to kill his brother (the player character), ruined the royal family's reputation by cheating his way into a dragon pact, and later laughs as he sends an android army out to kill all dragons, which has the known side effect of rendering the land barren.

Then the game tries to give him a 'redemption arc' by saying that he just has low self esteem because his family forgot to teach him you have to do respectable things to get respect and he, the guy who repeatedly attempted fratricide and genocide, can be a less warlike member of the family. They drop this right after he tears down housing to build a statue of himself. And the fandom somehow fell for this and complained about the main characters being too mean to him.

Meanwhile Valyx's response to his kingdom turning into an evil empire bent on genocide is to go 'orders are orders' and the writing expects you to think he's an honorable opponent and not such a coward that he can't even say 'genocide is wrong and also if we do this the land will become infertile and we'll all die of starvation.'

As much as I liked Dragalia Lost, there was a reason I had stopped playing by the time the server shutdown was announced.

I hate this man with a passion, he’s so obsessed with Grove Street pride that he ends up holding CJ back at every turn. While CJ is out there building empires—running businesses, making real power moves—Sweet just wants to spray tags and fight over a few blocks of turf that nobody else even cares about. He acts like loyalty means throwing your life away for the neighborhood, even if that neighborhood never does anything for you. He constantly guilt-trips CJ, ignores the bigger picture, and refuses to accept that maybe—just maybe—his narrow view of “the hood” is part of the problem. Instead of evolving, he digs his heels in and drags everyone else down with him.

I completely agree. I felt the same way playing all the way through twice and would fast forward through the cutscenes (the second time through) whenever I saw him.

Jesus Christ ! Now i remember playing this game with a friend for a couple weekends and we hated everyone in this game . That Rabbit-hole was torture and every Cringe-moment was more and more painful . These characters are so disgusting and horribly written , you will end up being misanthropic for a few days . And i thought the new characters of the last 3 star wars movies unlikable but this game surely changed my mind .

- Admiral Holdo / Rey "Skywalker" / Kylo Ren
Holdo was such a timewasting species of the most useless kind . The plan was absolutely idiotic and the scenes of the SLOOOOOW moving and huge Space-ship just grinded my nerves so much , i needed a break from this movie . And her superiority complex in smug-form was unbearable .

Rey "Skywalker" on the other hand was ... there . Overpowered Mary-sue that lacked anything to like her but somehow lacked anything to hate her too . The story tries to make her likable and stuff but it was just a written dead emotion packed into a character . Yeah ... nothing more.

Kylo Ren is the best doofus i ever saw in a movie . The reactions , the shots , the absolute baffling edgy teen sith i ever saw and i actually like this character in its comedic idiocy . But for Star wars he was still a bad character that ruined Star wars image . From " MOAR !! " to the huge space syringe while kylo stand besides it as if he wanna show Rey how his Love-syringe looks like . Its a shame Adam Driver must live with the filthy role of Kylo Ren because he is still a great actor and comes to me as a second Keanu Reeves . Give Adam Driver a great role where he fits perfectly and let him be a great actor . He already looks like the perfect Serverus Snape already .

Just annoying and nagging, but mostly its the fact that BJ just takes all the crap she gives him at the beginning with 0 pushback. When in new order there was a similar characer with J, who similarly insulted him; and he actually got mad at him because he takes great pride in his past as a ww2 soldier. Then they both admit they were being knuckleheads and end up respecting one another, I liked that much better than bj just sitting on the couch and getting lectured

Ada Wong from Resident Evil is a close second. She was interesting at first, but at some point, you gotta drop the mystery and have some kind of goal, or motivation. Hell, in 4 Remake, even Ada herself looks (and sounds) like she doesn't wanna be there. And the less said about RE6 the better.

I admire every character in Tekken are somewhat annoying because thus beating them make it worthwhile lolol.

The guy is an asshole, but DAMN he's suprisingly good at starting chaos.

This one on the other hand...not so much...

I played FFVII, so much that it hurts to see the Remake at this point, not because it's bad(well...it is, maybe a little) but because they will confuse my mind even more, the fact that everyone gives this guy so much praise as a villain is enfuriating to me, and that's because i've never saw the appeal of sephiroth, and i know, I KNOW, he looks cool, he has cool moves and a great boss and final boss fight...BUT, it was done better, BY KEFKA, who i consider better in SO many ways, and now comes my take on Sephiroth...

Sephiroth appealed and is remembered fondly not because his motives/personality, but by his whole image, and i get it, he looks cool, and does sick stuff, but for me that's not it, because better villains have been already made, DIO, Kefka, Prince Luca(might be my number 1, but Char exists so maybe i have to change my list) hell, even i like Lavos more than Sephiroth, because the planetary tick had impact, presence, influence, for me Sephiroth is just a cool(for the 2000s Hot Topic maybe) looking edgy dude with a sword and mommy problems.

Not just plain, but the whole character and vibe is just played out. Like do we really need another damn Mishima if Harada was never gonna keep his word in leaving Heihachi dead anyway? Speaking of Heihachi, yeah I'd say 8's story ruined him too. 7 was awful but at least they did the thing. Now none of that matters, it's why I just gave up on the franchise as a whole.

Reboot Spencer is WEIRD. Like, the community sort of embraced him because he was good in the game (he really is, and his theme kicks ass), but the game he came from wasn't great. And the "dead wife is the bionic arm" thing? What? lol

Honestly yeah, what suprises me always is how people used(and some still) praise him as the ultimate villain, even tho at least two predecessors of him already are leagues above him (Kefka and Exdeath).

a lot of people were introduced to games, rpgs and final fantasy through ff7. it was the first mainline game released in europe if i remember correctly. they got mystic quest first, and then 7.
your first exposure to a game/movie/tv show/comic/book will affect how you see others in those categories and even other parts of the same series.
sephiroth does do one thing correctly, which kefka and exdeath do as well, alongside other good villains. i've heard it called the "Gruntilda theory" by jontron in one of his early videos. the villain shows up and interacts with both the main characters and the player as well; showing off their personality and causing things to happen instead of passively waiting at the end of the game to do anything.
golbez shows up and makes quite the entrance with some kickass organ music, he interferes with your main objective later in the game, collecting the crystals and putting a stop to his plan.
exdeath shows up and starts wrecking shit and solo fights a party member in a cutscene and destroys parts of the world with the void.
kefka kills, injures, mocks and causes general chaos and destruction to both the heroes and his own side as well.
kuja instigates a war between several kingdoms, kidnaps people, blew up his home world and dad.
and there are many more characters that leave more lasting impressions and are better written and engage with the player and their party.

I never saw the appeal of the Final Fantasy VII characters in general.
Honestly, it's an overhyped game. I played it ages ago. the story was alright.
I don't judge it too harshly on graphics, it was a PS1 game, so I will let that slide.

The remake looks pretty, but I have no real interest in it. But I digress.. no Sephiroth, along with Cloud and the lot, were, in fact, not the be-all and end-all of Final Fantasy characters.

I agree Kefka was indeed the better villain, and comical on top of that.
