Game Ads: the weird and the whimsical

Eh, I think Nintendo tried too hard to be like Sega (or Sony later) to appeal to the teens when what made them Nintendo was because they were doing their own stuff...
True enough, but they were trying to pull away from the kiddie image they had and still do for the most part. Even after all these years I still see Nintendo as the kids' game system and the PS/Xbox as the teen/adult systems, although that isn't really the case anymore.

Nintendo does have some more mature titles under their belt compared to the 90s.

Coming back to add this one

My fav from Ratchet & Clank 2 ("locked and loaded" in Europe)

NO FORGIVENESS... THIS IS A GUN.

Don't be fooled by its hairdryer look. You'll see what this little machine is capable of when it's in your hands. In Ratchet and Clank 2, there are no charity sisters; it's here to annihilate, period. To do so, it comes loaded with all kinds of weapons—what am I saying, a whole arsenal. Ratchet and Clank 2, packed with action.

I wouldn't say these are my favorite, but here, have some controversial PlayStation ads.

I loved GamePro when I was a kid because it was my number one source for new shit coming out. I love it now as an adult with a fully formed brain because even after 2006 when other publications were phasing it out GamePro managed to retain some of that Y2K aesthetica that I crave now as a nostalgic asshole. These are from the July 2002 issue.
