First game that ever scared you?

Video games have scared me twice in my life..

6 or 7 year old me playing Metroid 2 on an original green-scale Gameboy. The first time I came across the first Metroid in the game scared me pretty badly. It was 2 or 3 years before I found out you needed to use missiles against it..

The second time was when I played the original Silent Hill demo late at night. I've never been relieved to reach the end of a demo disc before, or since.

RE1 is awesome, finished it for the fourth time recently, it's fun to speedrun a little. But as for the T-Rex; was there music in TR 1? I feel when I tried it, it was a little creepy cus of how quiet the game could be.
There was music but mostly atmospheric sounds, very little music in the stages and yes, the lack of sound with a sudden T rex made me scream out loud in fright, one of maybe 3 times that happened in my life. ::sailor-embarrassed

I was never fond of RE 1, not the original or the remake, both versions are ground-breaking but I much prefer 2. 2 got me into the series for life. So I nearly finished 1 on several occasions, both remake and OG but never actually finished it, I'd get to the part where you are just about to enter the lab and then just stop.

Zanzarah. Ironically this game is similar to pokemon, so you can't get attacked by any other watpy then being challenged to a duel. But the atmosphere of the Dark Woods was so creepy, with a sound of wolves howling that I was always scare there really were wolves and I was afraid to stumble into them by coming off the beaten path.

1999, I was 6 years old, playing Zelda Ocarina of Time.

I got gifted a LAROUSSE ESPAÑOL-INGLES Dictionary, it helped me navigate the game alone.
Got to the Royal Family's Tomb... I managed to open the locked door. Entered, and got jump-scared by the REDEAD SCREAM.

Now, it wouldn't meant anything, but I was alone, it was a Saturday night, in front of a 27" Trinitron CRT...

I quickly shut off my N64 and curled in the couch, slept there that night.

EDIT: I actually just remembered what happened literally right after I turned off my N64...
I was using the Antenna box thingy for my N64, as I didn't had the Composite AV cable, so taking the N64 antenna out of my TV resumed normal program, it was airing a movie about chimps and literally landed on the part where it explained and showcases chimp's cannibalism. Wish I was joking but nope. So got even more "traumatized"... 😮‍💨

My bad, I meant The Enchanted Forest.

The first 3 Resident Evil on PSX was such a great horror jumpscares for millenial kids on the block.
Then came RE4 and everything wasn't the same anymore since then, even with the REmakes.

Permanent trauma.

This game doesn't really scare me nowadays, but man.. I remember Epic Mickey really freaked me out when I was 8 years old

I think it was RE3. It was my introduction to the series and that CG cutscene that plays at the beginning really got me as a kid

My mistakes are immeasurable here, so screw it, I am redoing that.

Five Nights At Freddy's,Used to watch a shit load of videos based off of that game with my Big Sister on Youtube back in 2016

Silent Hill for PlayStation scared me for the first time. The creepy atmosphere but strangely enough, the monsters didn't scare me.

I have a distinct memory of playing Ocarina of Time as a kid when I was young during a storm; I'd accidentally not pushed the cartridge fully in I think? And I'd just got to the bit when I learned about how all who get lost in Lost Woods turn into Skull Kid from the creepy girl you meet. So I walk through and then the cart starts fritzing out as the storm goes and I actually think I'm gonna turn into a skullkid and run away downstairs screaming.

What was the first game, doesn't have to be horror, that spooked you that you remember?
The bottom of the well/the shadow temple also from OoT scared the crap out of me, as well as that scene in MM where the Happy Mask Salesman abruptly picks up and strangles Link for not getting his mask back after the first cycle, as well as the mask's transformation cutscenes... and there's lots of eerie stuff in Ikana Valley too.

Those N64 Zelda games were creepy as hell to me as a kid, it's probably why I was so interested in them in the first place and why they still hold so much real estate in my heart.

The enemies' ai in that game stress me the hell out lol

Perhaps one of the earliest instances is Wild Gunman. Every round starts with low, ominous music. And when you lose a round, the screen turns all red while playing The Funeral March.

And while I never played it until I got into emulation much later on, this ad for Splatterhouse popped up in comic books back then, and it always unnerved yet intrigued me.
