Fire Emblem Megathread

Tear Ring Saga, Kaga's first tactical rpg post-Nintendo, it's pretty disappointing. Everything except the story is badly made, like the ui, animations that take a long time to finish, and worse of all (for me) is linear and boring maps. Seriously, I think for tactical rpgs, the maps are the soul of the game. I would forgive any flaw the game had if the maps where fun and creative, but they're the exact opposite. Like i said before, the story and also the characters are the only thing good about this game, but they didn't save the game for me, unfortunately.

Because this game didn't scratch my FE desire, i went on and downloaded FE Shadow Dragon for the ds. Played before but never beat it. Now its a good time, just to take off the sour taste Tear Ring Saga left ::apollo

I love Fire Emblem Gaiden.
I know it lacks having all yhe different equipment and menu management in battle, and that to some it might seem oversimplified, but I feel that it adds a certain level of focus on strategy, limiting your options and also makes the items more valuable being that they are also more limited. The items you do get matter so much more because of this.

i also love how your party is mainly comprised of Villagers, and the aspect of choosing which class to upgrade each character to, giving a different playthrough experience each run. The variety adds much to replayability.

I'm so sick to see Three Houses everywhere. It's the P5/FFVII of Fire Emblem. It may be an objectively good game but I found it a 7/10 experience just like the social sims FE like Awakening. I did love Fates/if on gameplay though, even if the story is trash.

Anyways: I tried every single game (and even Tear Ring Saga, but only the first game. Not the PS2 or the Steam ones), but only beat Sacred Stones, Awakening, Warriors, Three Houses (Church route, yuck). I should absolutely finish Echoes: Shadows of Valentia because it's my favourite so far. Loved the gameplay, presentation, characters, story...just, everything about it.
I did most progresses also on FE6 and FE7. Og Shadow Dragon is very rough to return on it.

When Nintendo will add Path of Radiance on NSO I will return to that one for sure.

Recommend me a game to get me into FE.
I'd say Fire emblem Blazing Sword for the gameboy advance is a good first game on the series. I started with this game, and it made me fell in love with the franchise. If you want a more modern take, you can play Awakening or Three Houses

Finally, some blessed soul that recommended first the game that was literally made for newcomers in mind.

Tbh anything post Fire Emblem 7 is good enough (. The first 6 original games can be tremendously brutal if you're not prepared.

Huh, didn't know Blazing Sword was specifically made for people new to the series. Well, it worked, i'm glad i started with this game ::peacemario

Never got into the series but I like the Classic games + the GBA trilogy

I think I have more attachment to the Shining series but both are good SRPGs. The first one I've ever played was the Super Famicom one (which was a remake of the original + an extended journey).

I started with FE Shadow Dragon for the Nintendo DS and have not regretted it the game is also a good start into the FE series.

.......I'm pretty sure in my case it felt the opposite LMAO. But I do regret having sold it to Gamestop. Now it became kinda expensive.

Why this game exists? This is a question that will hunt philosophers for many centuries

Honestly FE 7 or FE 8 are good choices for a beginner FE, they are pretty fair games in general and they are closer to the modern format of FE. I personally started with Shadow Dragon on the DS and it's a good FE but just know it also sticks closer to the roots of FE compared to the previous games.

I will download Blazing Sword and put in on my Vita. I'm going away for a few days soon so It'll give me a good chance to try the game out.

I will also install Shadow Dragon on my 3DS as well for when I get home again.

Thanks for all the recommendations folks. I'll report back on how much I've enjoyed them once I make some decent progress.

I confess that I've never been able to beat the final boss in any of the FE games I've played.

Sacred Stones was my first Fire Emblem, and I'm glad that was the case. Younger me would have hated being unable to grind my warriors when a chapter was too difficult. All hail the Tower of Valni. I agree with the poster above. The sprite animations in the GBA games have no right to be as good as they are. Amazing work. Oh, and Lute was my MVP.

I'm in the minority here but I think Fates was the best entry in the series. Gameplay was fun, it has my favorite post-Awakening artstyle, and I don't even think the story was as bad as people claim. Revelations was a bit too ambitious but it didn't detract too much from the experience.

Funnily enough, the worst parts of Fates' script ended up being due to Treehouse's awful localization. I played again using a more literal translation and all my issues with the plot magically vanished. I'm not a translation basher but Treehouse is the exception. They take decently written characters and turn them into walking memes. They should never be allowed near a story-heavy game. And unfortunately for that reason I refuse to play Engage.
