Final Fantasy Thread

Been more than a week since I started Final Fantasy tactics and let me tell you....the game sucks just like any Final Fantasy game its so bad like how can they keep making these bad games like square shouldn't have been named square it should be called sqaurehead because they make games for people with square shaped heads....its SUCKS.

Alright now the game is so bad that I been playing it forwas past 9 days and sank 20 hours in it how can this game be this is unfathomable to me.

So the game so far is pretty good its basically the battle system we know and love but this time you can run around in it and do a hell lot of cool stuff like flanking enemies and such.

The game even has job system pretty cool right? Here are my thoughts on some jobs:

Squire: light/basic infantry they can do a little of everything from attacking enemy up close with swords or even axes to harassment from afar by throwing stones they can heal and are quite maneuverable by having +1 move as an ability , they also have another important ability "gain JP up".

Knight: the knights are expansive and hard to maintain , they are your only warriors who can use heavy armor and shields until lancers get introduced with high durability and evasion they are the tanks of the team , they also can debuff the enemy in multiple ways from breaking their armor to most importantly their weapon , breaking enemy weapons like archers removes them from the battle its that good.

Chemist: battle medics but guy chemists look like shady dudes who would give you substances that make you dizzy , girl chemists are wearing maid clothes repurposed for fighting , they can throw all sorts of potions and can equip guns later on , their weakness is unlike magic the potions can be blocked by trees or walls....since they can equip guns im thinking of making a rifle squad using chemists only.

Archers: with good reach these guys are excellent for harassment or sniping enemy back lines from killing summoners and mages the archer can get to the high ground and kill everyone from there especially with charge.

Chocobo: while not a class or job of itself chocbos have move value of 6 enabling them to maneuver and move great distances they can reach enemy rear pretty easily and work on harassing the enemy from there they can also work as support with their cure , they however can't equip stuff making them less durable.

Since this game allows you to hire soldiers and name them here are the MVPs of the team 2 of them I started the game with as chemists

This guy is carrying the team the whole time , starting as a chemist in mission 1 he quickly developed into a black mage (game calls them wizard) and start burning people left and right he helped in the early battles greatly his most important battles were:

1-battle vs algus
2-battle of lionel castle helping defeat Dracula by casting flare amounting to 202 damage
3-various skirmishes against wild beasts , the death corps and more.

View attachment 26852
My dear Chamberlain became the archer of the team his help in defeating algus is unforgettable, helping defeat various summoners and mages without Chamberlain I wouldn't have progressed this far into the story.

His most important battles are:
1-defeating algus by taking out the lone knight that faces squad 2 he climbed up to the stairs and rained down charged arrows on algus and his lackeys.
2-rescuing mustadio and his father by constantly keeping enemy archers at bay.
3-battle of lionel castle by neutralizing the summoner and the archers.

View attachment 26854
And finally Shelia , without her none of the impressive feats Chamberlain or sorvez would have been possible , the healer of the team and later on with a gun in her hands became a damage dealer from afar whenever she could shoot that is , while her stats aren't as impressive when it comes to faith she is a terrible spellcaster , her efforts however in keeping the team are legendary everybody stand up for Shelia as a sign of respect ::bigboss

The game can be pretty difficult and its quite unforgiving in that if the soldier dies you have only 3 turns to get him back up otherwise he will die permanently , this makes investing into soldiers a bit of a risk since they might die next battle , and this is even worse considering highly experienced troops.

This game is the result of someone at square looking at the battle System and saying "I can make a tactics game out of this" and here is the result.

Looking forward for the sequel Final Fantasy strategy where you command vast armies of troops and can mount knights on chocobos.

Like really? Knights can't ride chocobos in this game they fight on foot instead what a shame....
half of this read like you were reviewing a disgaea game "my healer heal my knight's severed foot and eye while capping 3 thugs with her .45 magnum" :)
i think i tried twice at some point to play this, going by the screenshots. i think i borrowed the game for 10 minutes from a friend, and i have a psp game called "final fantasy tactics: war of the lions".
i booted it up, watched an alright anime opening, got 2 rounds into the first battle and stopped.
kind of weird for knights not being able to ride chocobos. the anime opening showed what looked like the main characters each riding one.

Final Fantasy X is one of the best games ever made imo. It's the first game I ever played that made me start to appreciate the beauty of the maths behind video games.
Also has some of the best post-game content and characters. My ranking so far is:
X > IV > VII > VI > XIII-2 > Type-0 > XIII > XV

Looking forward to playing more from the series

i see this post.
i see the rankings.
two of the best 3 games in the series are in the top 2 slots.
i'm pretty sure that we can be good friends.
here are some sunglasses for you:

Yes Shelia is indeed a gigachad if I had a clue how to draw would have drawn her among with others to immortalize this legend ::biggrin

Yeah I know right? We see people on chocobos in the opening yet never get to ride one , its a different style of final fantasy but its not bad quite a fun take on the usual battle system , especially with all the strategies you can develop.

Personally I have been going for highly maneuverable troops having at least move value of 5 enabling me to cover good distances and be the first to engage in fights , I been wondering if somebody made a video series of "can you beat final fantasy tactics with X unit only?" Would make a good series and good content.

But capping thugs with a magnum while treating people injuries never gonna forget that description ::eggmanlaugh

Ah, you are on your way to learn the inarguable truth of strategy games. Movement is the best stat almost 99% of the times. That's why the queen is infinitely more useful than the pawn in Chess.

I generally go with Ramza in his super Squire/Monk/Ninja combination.

Mustadio as a Chemist/Engineer.

Agrias as Knight/Divine Blade upgrade to T.G. Cid when he's available.

Then two wild cards -> I have a reserve of White Mage/Summoner/Calculator, Time Mage/Black Mage, Thief/Archer to steal stuff and one tank Dragoon/Knight/Geomancer for when I need more beef. Meliadoul or Agrias can be the additional tank when you get enough Holy Knights.

Monster units are cute but pretty much useless. Gear is so good in the game and none of the monsters can equip it and have a very limited ability pool.

Yeah indeed movement is great , even in real life armies that could out maneuver the enemy always won look at operation Uranus , the feats of Hannibal and more.....in age of empires infantry is near useless cuz knights are just fast and an all purpose soldier , the ability to pick fights you want and escape from unfavorable ones Is a blessing , not to add cavalry archers who are the best raiders in the game , in WarCraft 3 the dryads are great for kiting enemies with their speed and poison spears works very well , in stronghold crusader I heard horse archers are the meta ::lol

Yup speed is just that good.

Im working on getting everyone +2 move so I can finally replace the battle boots with other things im not in need of 6 move as 5 works fine , and yes monsters at this point (chapter 3) feel inferior to anything you bring to the table.

Emphasis mine, but absolutely true; even more so in games with experience systems, as the opportunities afforded by larger movement radius means a level advantage.

I usually played with about the same team, though I did get some mileage out of Worker 8. (Actually I liked to keep a monster squad with red chocobos and tiamats, but I'll admit it's a ton of work for the payoff).

And that's everything there is to do in Final Fantasy 5 Advance

I really enjoyed it. Every job felt unique and useful in some way for at least some portion of the game. Really liked all the unique challenges in this game that the bosses thew at you. Story was quite fun as well, more lighthearted than other final fantasy's' I've played so far, like a Saturday morning adventure cartoon. But it also had some of the most emotional moments in the series so far.

1.) when the party decides to go to Galuf's world, the determination to do what's right even though it meant leaving everything they ever knew behind forever

2.) Galuf's death really hit me hard too

3.) Gilgamesh become fiends with the party and saving them at the end

4.) when they overcome exdeath at the end and get to go on another adventure together was very uplifting

overall I'd say its an 7.5/10 to 8/10 game

The Mongols turned movement is the best stat into an empire with the parthian shot.

disgaea is know for crazy kinds of set ups and very deep character customization; with every game building up on it. i usually make a little pink hair mage girl and i give her battleaxes to wield to add to my team. the weapons can be powered up to boost lots of stats. that same axe can boost her intel and sp too in addition to raw strength. and of that wasn't enough, your monster characters can turn into weapons too and be wielding in combat too; adding their stats to another character. it's crazy.

I agree FF5 is also unique by having a separate main menu theme and its a good one too.

Another good story moment is the relationship growth between the tycoon sisters.

Having krile as the tank will never stop being funny :loldog

When you think about it the protagonist is the virtual representation of the player , or just you in the game world you are loving yourself in a weird way if you look at it from that Point of view ::thinking

The Mongols turned movement is the best stat into an empire with the parthian shot.
Ikr mongols OP in real life and in age of empires historical accuracy at its finest.

And being speedy is so freeing anyway.

Yup quite similar to tactics one cool note the transition of the intro to the main menu is pretty smooth and cool and the T in tactics is a sword I like small details like these makes a good game better.

Since you seem to like this game why not give tactics another try?

i got it on my list. i found, i think it's called ff tactics: one vision mod on the site. i'm gonna check out some of the other psx emulators; the one i use won't let me play yugioh forbidden memories. i might have more luck with another one.

Yes its available here basically this place is where I get my goods from , epsxe might work for you.

That only makes sense in games where the protagonist is a blank slate or created by the player. Games like Final Fantasy, I see more like movies where I can give the players commands in combat. So I'm like their strategist and personal advisor.

Can work on all games really since you see the events always from a certain character POV , in FF7 its mostly cloud add on it you get to make decisions sometimes so I think it generally applies to games with protagonists like gordon freeman or protagonists like terra or arthas or jill.

I like the dynamic in Fire Emblem for GBA, where the player is acknowledged as an off camera tactician that is advising the main character throughout the journey. A clever way of having the player feel a part of the story.

Yes if its acknowledged that you aren't seen in the game like lets say CNC games where you are mostly called "commander" and "general" then it works , but in a game like silent hill? Where would harry be getting his actions from? Through revelations from the radio? I don't think so , the difference between games and movies is you are a part of the game world whether you are a character represented on the screen or an off screen presence like mention above , in movies you watch a guy go through actions that you have no control over , in a game you are the one to decide what the character does , the main character usually the player is a way for you to communicate with the game and the game to communicate back with you , of course you don't always get to influence every decision in the game for the sake of story and such.

In Final Fantasy games we are always in the shoes of the protagonist either firion , cecil , bartz and more we are always seeing events unfold from their perspective save for when the story takes these characters out for a bit and puts us in different people shoes , like galuf rescuing the party , or zell punching the guards to get the weapons or tifa and cid when cloud goes crazy.

In terms of battle I think from the game world perspective the actions you do are a set of individual actions the characters do like casting the right spell because they want to or attacking the weakest enemy to finish him off , it can also be influenced by the team leader like lets say cloud telling aerith to heal the team or it can be planned out before the battle which is something I assume many people do when playing FF games like the opening move the spells they cast etc.

I guess you could be the conscience of the characters or destiny, or some omnipotent invisible force guiding the players.

Like when Jaheira gets annoyed at you giving her commands in Baldur's Gate 1.

Im thinking about a meme "days since pandaprewmaster325 shat on final fantasy 2 (day count: 0)" half of my posts are just criticising FF2 cuz it sucks what do you think guys? Or should it be a slander? "Final Fantasy thread slander" you know that sort of memes.....

Thread question: what status condition is the worst in the entire series?

and by that i mean ones that make you have this reaction whenever you encounter them regardless of game
all debuffs are bad, but i would say confusion is the most annoying.
