Final Fantasy Thread

yeah. it's not presented as one, but it seems like it was to test the idea out. Terra's esper form.
Thought of it more as a special ability just like every other character had one

i bought a few as well, but i don't run from any fights nowadays; so i tend to have a bit more money than i used to have on earlier playthroughs when i was younger.
The game hates me then it decided to steal my money , not first time square JRPG screws over my money (looking at you chrono trigger)

save states don't exist on a ps1.
Bad luck man bad luck

not mean a game will be good. many of the best games have a very small amount of space to work with, which helps breed creativity. the large space of a cd is the main thing that enticed square to jump ship. and considering that they were on their 2nd start for ff7 when they jumped over to the ps1, another few months of work was scrapped in addition to the year of work done for the snes version. they had a year and a half to finish the game in a 3-year deadline. that's why disc one is good and it falls off of a cliff after that.
There is a noticeable shift in pace after disc 1 agree , honestly i think what we got is the more refined version it's always like that , initial planning phases with lots of scrapped ideas as the game matures and all

yeah. there's, 3 ending if i remember correctly. and because of the story for the after years, the bad ending screws over all of the games in the series.
Gulp that's going to be a bad memory

that was during an era where you would be lucky to get 1 short set of anime episodes, let alone a whole sea
Fr? I never watched anime so legend of the crystals can count as my first proper anime I'm not well versed in this section of entertainment so idk...

her esper form triggers randomly, if i remember correctly. i haven't gotten to that part before, but that's what i've heard about it.

did you run from a lot of battles?

i didn't know that she was in the game. i was just running around and the event occurred and i kept messing up the choices in the event.

it most likely is. the original plan was apparently deemed "too dark", so they split it up between 7, 8, and xenogears.
Gulp that's going to be a bad memory
yep. but i avoided that so everything hopefully works out in the end. we will never know for certain, but i would hope that the last plot thread ends up on a positive note.

yeah, it was pretty common for a series to exist more like a set of movies, like city hunter. or just be one offs like ninja scroll or a short ova like angel cop or mad bull 34 or armitage the 3rd. but sometimes that can work out in favor of the show in question, like cowboy bebop. the creators knew that they would most likely get one season, so they accepted that and that's why the show has a atmosphere of finality hanging throughout it.

No no i remember it was a command , early on the 2nd form ends quickly so much so it lasts a turn

did you run from a lot of battles?
No i hardly ran from anything in FF4 save for the last couple sections with that mask thing

i didn't get that far, so i was just going by what i read; and that was a few years ago.

then i'm not sure why you were having trouble getting money then. leveling up your characters a couple of times in a new area should get you enough funds for a few new upgrades.

Very haram of you to not continue Final Fantasy 6 I'm so offended right now ::unhappy ::angrygenjin

Anyway i eventually bought the equipment and everything went smoothly for the most part

same, screw those death masks, im glad they never came back in any future games
I tried to properly fight them once and it just felt like fighting a hacker lol

i don't know what that word is, but i will assume that it is not good. i was playing the psx version alongside the ff5 psx version many years ago but i had to start focusing on my college classes more at that point so i had to stop at that point. it's on my list to play. i'll most likely play the snes version after i get done with ff3 [psp] and ff1 renaissance classic mode.

that enemy is level 99, which is 3 more than the final boss. if it makes you feel better, it has a def stat of 4 and a magic def of 19. :)

So I'm playing FF Type-0 and I wanted a place to talk about my experience with the game. I'm also planning to play FF7 or FF10 next, Type-0 is a pretty good game. I didn't expected to find a more mature plot on a Final Fantasy game. I hope there's more games like it.

FF Type-0 was a pleasant surprise.

It's a bit sad for me that some of the context you need for the game is actually outside the game itself. And the main characters are not exactly memorable.
This game had so much potential, i think is too short, and some ideas are not great. I have so much to say about this fking game xD

I'll admit that i cried a lot at one of the ends and hated the most happy one.

Some of the OST is very inspirational, remind me the FFX religious songs that also make me cry, especially the infrit one, it's very spiritual.

Haram means forbidden quite surprised you never heard of it before it's popular on the internet , lol i played the PS1 version it's only problem is the poorly optimized loading times otherwise the opening intro and ending cutscene make it 100% worth it along with the not so much censorship

Your list of games is unending

Yup absolute hacker

i'm guessing that the word is not english in origin, so i wouldn't have heard of it until now.
yeah, that is the main draw back to the psx final fantasy games. it's easily 20 to 30 seconds of loading. it does take a while. probably one of the reasons why i have a high patience limit.

oh yea, i have a ton of games to play and replay. i'm currently trying to get through the pikmin 1² chaos randomizer. i was stuck on day 4 for about 3 real life days due to the insane bullshit that the game was pulling. now it's happening again on day 9.
Yup absolute hacker
yeah, usually regular enemies aren't higher level than the final boss. that's usually reserved for super bosses and hidden bosses.

Every other Final Fantasy game on the PS1 is actually decent when it comes to transitioning between screens and all its only when trying to go into menu that FF6 is horrendous along with chrono trigger it's strange that they went through with those poor optimization choices

Bet I'm gonna finish college and you didn't continue that Final Fantasy tactics playthrough? :loldog i need to try pikmin just because of how much you play that game

yeah, the loading times are a bit weird. i know it's a laser reading the data off of a cd, but considering ff 1-6 are 16 bit games for all intents and purposes, they shouldn't take that long to read and go through all of that data, since it would be about 3 mb at most. the 3d games and tactics make sense, since they were built from the ground up to run on a ps1, so they take advantage of the tech. but 2 games upgraded from nes to snes and 4 snes games taking that long to load. they could have spent a few days working on efficiency.

for the pikmin 1² randomizer, probably. i'm doing it deathless, so a lot of rng has to be in my favor. i'm going to have to accpet some losses if i want to finish the game. so, yeah, you'll be a middle age man by the time i finish playing through this seed for the game.
i'll probably boot tactics up later and try to play something more, relaxing than a hard ass difficulty mod.
if you want any info on the pikmin games, feel free to ask. i know quite a bit of stuff about the games, especially 1 and 2. i even have a thread here on the site all about pikmin.

FF1/2/4/5 loaded fast either it be transitioning to battle or going into the menu it's only FF6 that suffered delay begs the question why FF6 got that when FF5 loaded pretty smoothly

I never attempted a deathless run in any RTS it's quite time consuming process especially when most RTS have fast kill times and with a randomizer that feels like RNG taken to 11 i mean can you look at age of mythology a game with some insta kill abilities and go "yup looks good for deathless"

HAH i never ask for info , info asks for me ::smug here is what's going to happen if i try pikmin

-play it on hardest difficulty (if that exists)
-end up losing on mission 1
-gets stuck on mission 3 or 4 or whatever advanced level
-takes 16 hours to finally understand every mechanic
-brute force/save scum my way through the rest of the game
-WIN

End up missing some overpowered thing somewhere that could make the game 10 times easier

>good game

the battle times were fast, but saving and loading took a while in 4. i'll have to check the others at some point. i played ff4 the most out of the psx instalments.

it's mostly what people do when they can either do the 14 day challenge run or speed run the game. the game caps out at about 7 and 1/2 hours if every day is used to its fullest extent. i can get to the end of the game in just under 14 in game days; and i can still improve on that.

difficulty settings exist only for 3 and 4, and even then, those are the easiest instalments in the series. so, the difficulty comes mainly from forming strategies on collecting everything in the most efficient order.
i learned an interesting fun fact that i will post over on the pikmin thread later, when i can relocate the video where i found out about a weird bit of gameplay info. you have to try to lose on day one, and that's only possible in the second game.
it is possible to get stuck, but that's more related to collecting everything, and that mainly in the second game with the bullshit treasure piece to collect. you will need to farm a bit to get it.
that is about how long it takes to beat the second game, so i would recommend that one to start, but it is the hardest instalment in the series; barring mods.
it's very good that you are familiar with this technique, you will be using it very frequently.
"win" is a subjective word.
there are power ups in the second game. and they do make things a bit easier. if you miss the one power up in the first game, you will lose. no exceptions.

Man, FFIV holds up really well. I've been playing the Pixel Remaster version on Switch, the changes they've made feel pretty minor, mostly graphical stuff. Although the generic menu/font/sound effects/etc. being the same for FF1-6 does take away a lot of the charm of each game. It feels like the game is a little harder than what we got on SNES as FFII, maybe this version has the harder "normal" difficulty that the Japanese version did? It feels pretty imbalanced in that a lot of enemies and even some bosses are pretty worthless, and then occasionally you just get whaled on by an enemy that hits like a truck and can drop someone in three hits. Maybe it was always like that. Anyway, even though it's kind of basic, I'm having fun, same with FF1. I've only beaten the far easier port on GBA, and dabbled on NES and PS1, so I'm hoping to beat the game proper this time.

Shame the sounds are the same i really loved the FF5 spell sounds

I've just started playing through the original FFVII on my PSV for the first time after tossing up between it or Rebirth and honestly feel I made the right call. Having a great time with it, and having learned about these characters through pop culture, memes and references can honestly say they've still surprised me, being a lot more complex than I would have guessed.

The original PSX translation is . . . about what I'd heard but it's tolerable. "This guy are sick" definitely had me thinking about which translated version I should play. Still, explorations great, narrative is really engaging and you just can't beat those og pre-rendered backgrounds, just gorgeous.

Fully intend on playing at least 6, 9, 10, and 12 after this one and likely to go back and play Tactics and Crisis Core again afterwards.

Its one of those where all the stars aligned type situations same with 6 albeit combat in pre FF7 FF was less "cinematic" and more "static" just don't get kidnapped by the turks :loldog
