Oh so characters gain stats based on job right? Yeah you need a monk/black belt it's quite lame as starseeker said like why i have base and upgraded version of the monk as seperate things? I actually forgot what level the team was on when i beaten the game probably something 50? 55? Its silly move from square to lock equipment behind MP.

PSP version might be the one i try next.
it's only hp apparently. all other stats are determined by the job. black belt is the job with the highest stamina stat. this stat is almost the same across all jobs except the onion knight which doesn't get above 15 points until lv 93. around level 34 the black belt starts getting lost of points in stamina which helps boost the overall amount of hp that you get and the bonus random amount of hp that you can randomly get upon each level up as well.

So that's what the onion knight speciality is? Get tremendous amount of stats at level 90.... Man its so difficult to get there without high XP monsters.

So the HP gain is random? BRUH at least have it not be below a certain amount

it's really good, i definetlly recomend it, i would also recomend to play around the encounter rate option to make the game much easier when you have to grind, and run around dungeons more calmlly, i'm really hyped for the remake, you can make crazy combinations with the jobs in that game, it's been a wile since i plaind the first one but i rememver beeing able to use a summon as a counter with mixing the off brand black mage that you get in the begining of the game and summoner, if you only care about game play i recomend bravely second more, it's way more polished and the jobs feel better, freelancer has a really situacional skill called halfsies, it turns a singel target item into aoe but with 50% power, i could honestlly keep talking about it i lot, it just feels really good.
tldr; game peak, play Bravely Second if you only care about game play
Interesting. Without getting too off-topic can you play the second without knowing the story to the first? Even if the gameplay's better I'd probably rather see the story from the beginning.

basically, they can wield nearly all gear except class specific ones, all white and black magic from the moment that the job is unlocked and no summon magic. stats are very, very, very low. my player's guide shows stats from the most likely level that you would be at when you get the job and their stats are 7 points from lv 16 to 92 and they get one point of growth every 8-10 levels. then they jump quickly to 99 points in every main stat at lv 99.
4 points max for lv 8 spells and 49 points for lv 1 magic.
also, all of their gear is farmable from the dragon enemies that appear in the final dungeon and hidden dungeon. and they have their own ultimate weapon too. the onion blade. its' got an attack stat of 90.

The real final fantasy 5 experience i never thought a maid dress Xdeath would be real but here we are.

So switch to onion knights 1 level before the level they unlock all that? Understood.

you have to complete a quest before you get the job. it's the only one that is unlocked by that method. you need to read some letters through the mognet and be a little bit far in the story for the psp version. ds requires 7 letters exchanged between you and at least one other player, one letter per hour of gameplay; and also read the letter from the old main in the beginning village, i think it was.
i think you can get the class at an even lower level than that, but you have to fight 3 bomb enemies to get it, so it might not be worth it. especially for having your stats so low. it's the perfect class for a challenge run, but unless you get lots of good gear for them, it really ain't worth it.

Too much of a hustle it seems doesn't look like a 1st try thing more of a veteran playstyle

yeah. fortunately, most of the other classes were adjusted to make them more viable so everyone wouldn't default to just sage and ninja at the end. my party was
luneth: dark knight
arc: red mage
refia: sage
and ignus: dragoon
when i got to the end dungeon. i'll need to spend a few dozen levels with everyone as black belts to get lots of hp to ensure that my party can survive the final battle gauntlet next time.

Dragoon is always good since he avoids damage i won that one battle by just doing that same for the Odin fight , magnificent job truly one of the best jobs ever best deal i have ever seen in the history of deals (better read this with trump impression)

Red mage felt a bit weak when i got to the tree of elders but that's just the NES version idk how it goes in the remake probably and most likely much MUCH better than whatever square was dabbling with in 1990 when they made FF3.

Does the cloud still have just 1 attack?

oh, no, no, no, no. it's not pathetic anymore in this version. it gets 4 actions per round, and it has minions this time. it has particle beam [ its the same attack in the nes version, just different name] with lightning [hits everyone], bad breath, protect, haste and bitch slaps to round out its arsenal of attacks, and they can occur in any order without any restrictions or time delays.
it's lv 60 with 199,999 hp.

Sounds absolutely crazy! And ripe for challenge

oh, then you'll love the hidden super boss. it's lv 81, same hp, attacks four times a round, all attacks hit everyone and it knows meteor.

oh, and the player's guide says that it's normal attacks inflect debuffs upon hit.

Those are fun, I like bosses that make me change my strat than be a giant HP sponge you can leave on auto battle for the first hour before it really gets interesting.
yeah, it also gains a new attack at the halfway point. it just swings it's giant sword and hits everyone in the party with it. the player's guide recommends being lv 82 [one level above it's] as the absolute minimum level but encourages higher levels for better results.
