I actually wanted to try the remake and don't mind that much if its turn based or not, but I really dislike midgar and the idea of downloading a whole 100gb game focused only on it that extends for who knows how many hours isn't very appealing to me...
Bro I wouldn't mind if it was a damn vr fps to get you into the damn world and immerse you as they wanted to do, the vibes ain't ff7 vibes, cloud grunts like a bitch, too much lovey doby between characters stretching the characters depth to beyond what it needs to be, the changing of the story and putting stupid ghost to alter the timeline and create multiverses what ifs, maybe it would've been a solid move as a sequel spin off but not in the main game ? they are ltrly milking ff7 in the worst way possible, the ff7 compilation milked it million times better and actually made me enjoy the world and made it alive, everything in rebirth screams give me money, they even scrubed content to re use in the 3rd game so the third game wont feel empty and worth the 90$ price tag they are giving it, 140 if you want the ultimate edition btw
I've been a Superman/DC Comics fan since the early 90s, so I've been sick of alternate timelines/parallel universes in storytelling for a while now. These "comic booky" elements are cool and kitschy in the beginning, but it quickly becomes annoying as the writers become the main characters of the story instead of the protagonists.
FF7 means a lot to me, so them messing with FF7's story feels like they're messing with The Lord of the Rings. Just imagine if they remade The Lord of the Rings but with alternate timelines and other comic book-like elements—I don't know about anyone else, but it feels like blasphemy to me.
I feel you brother, and it hurts me a lot too, I mentioned DB and DBZ just earlier and how toyotaro is ruining it with DBS rn, I mean I'd love to see alternative time lien in Dragon Ball but ones with depth and care to the show and fans, super is just reused animations and reused Dragon Ball scenarios to get the stupid fans with fan service and low and behold it worked, advant children was a solid sequel even tho it was a cheap way to bring back sephiroth and stretch the story, dbz movies were so good expanded on some aspects and gave us new characters that I challenge anyone from any other franchise to name movie characters as memorable and iconic as DB ones (broly janemba gogeta cooler bojack and all of em) the world can be expanded on without milking it too much, have some fan service that give quality not quantity to the work, even when toyotaro was a fan and made his db manga spinoff DBAF he made solid charchters designs and scenarios idk if it was him doubting his ability and wanted to play it safe to the shit garbage he made thats super or everyone refused his ideas and he was forced to that shit but either way he fucked up and him carrying the legacy of DBZ ruined the show forever, same with Nomura handling ff7, it's like giving an egg to a baby
Yes, it's what I wanted, a Final Fantasy with real time combat. I have no problems with it. I would never have played Final Fantasy 15 and 7 Remake if they weren't action games and both (specially 7 Remake) are great games.

I wanted was something more like what they gave to the Apple Arcade: FF7 classic with new visuals + quality of life improvements.
Nomura's writing lacks depth and he tries his best to hide it by making his stories absurdly convoluted.
But hey, even if you dislike the classic one, the new one would still exist and if Squenix were to rehash a version of what they made (ever crisis or remake tardigrade) but using the original game's script, they would get a lot of money from it.
as a nomura disliker, it is pretty funny how much he gets all the blame for the writing of these new games. He wasn't the writer for ff7 remake. He was one of 3 (three) directors, and his role was further reduced in rebirth. He also wanted to keep things more or less the same as the original for the remake. Nojima is the main guy who pushed for all the story changes. even if that hadn't been explicitly said, his presence is pretty heavily felt if you're familiar with his writing. Which you surely are since he also had a hand in all the FF7 spinoffs that people love to hate and that insane FFX story where tidus gets his head blown off.
like you can blame him for putting his stamp on it at the end of the day, but there are a lot of cooks in that kitchen. "Nojima RUINED this game" would be reductive too, but it would at least make some kind of sense.

Kitase: I personally envisioned quite a dramatic change overall, but our director; Tetsuya Nomura and co-director; Naoki Hamaguchi, wanted to keep the beloved aspects in the original as much as possible. Eventually the development team decided to focus on respecting the original while adding in new elements, ensuring a delicate balance between the two.
They didn't have to reinvent everything, they just had to give it the same treatment Capcom did to the remake of the first RE, improve graphics, sound, polish controls, add extras, QoL hacks, etc.
They could even create other campaigns to explain more in depth things that the original could not and mainly do it in a single installment.
If they had done it this way we would have already gone for the remake of 9 or 6 and not keep waiting for the third chapter of FF7.
Especially the sequel where lightning Ventures to Gamestop . My favourite one .

While im not liking og FF7 overall very much (but still had fun with it) , i still preffered to stay it turn-based instead of pseudo-Devil May Cry .
I think , FF was till 13 still FF but now it should be called more like Post Fantasy , how hard FF15 tried to show me alot of Advertisements of brand-products that the MCs used 24/7 . And FF7 Remake continued sort of FF15s problems with alot of its rather unfantastical aspects to be more a reflection to our reality while being in a fictional world with its own rules and logic . The lore changes were jarring at best and blasphemous at worst for FF7- Fans .
Why not just a graphical update with some more content instead making such a Titan Project to make each ps1 disc into its own game ?
i played every ff ever from the crappy mobile games to the multiple ports on handheld consoles but when ff7 remake, i knew excatly what it was and how i wouldn't like it, a lot of people who liked and enjoyed the game never played the og as ive seen in the comment here but i wanna say that every change from the og killed it, not talkin gameplay the gameplay is fine really even tho it feels outdated kh mechanics but ill let it slide, walking in the BIG world in it self is just horrible to start with, open empty world filled with too many stupid mini games with cut content and changed scenes square enix became the masters of filling games with full load of bull shit inflating a 40 hrs game to nearly 150 for no reason, if you took the linear stuff from remake ans rebirth you wont even hit the 60 hrs mark paying for 3 separate games for 1 experience is a bad business model but more than that it take the joy of what was fun once, if you remember when they develpoed ff7 in the begining the game was soppused to be on the n64 but the cartidage sizes were too small and nintendo tried to force square to release the game on multiple sagas but square refused and went with sony since the game would fit on 2 disks instead, it ironic how they are creating the problem they tried to solve in the past and make it a feature, a lot of other perks made ff7 unique cool and revolutionary and non of that exist in the remake, if you think the graphics of the og is too much to handle play it with 7th heaven modpack and just enjoy it without thinking too much thats how you enjoy the game

Then there's the ending and which just felt so mishandled and almost pointless to try to change the perspective when everyone but Cloud is aware of what is happening.

Exactly, I understand the premise of let's save the world is kinda meh and over used but didn't mind it that much, If I wanted a remake, I wanted some deep lore into the philosophy of the game and characters the little simple things that the old game couldn't show, like the tired expressions of Sephiroth and the confusion of cloud and some depth into all the characters

I understand you wanted better graphics but what do you like about the multiverse and the ghosts and the rewrite of the story ? Splitting the game into 200 hours 3 different discs with some weird rewrite is not all that worth it, since you. Loved AC wouldn't a movie be enough?
All the character moments and worldbuilding, it vastly exceeds the original in this sense, which I feel was lacking in the original.
The original was fairly quick paced and was an eco warrior story, then just this guy that suddenly appears in the narrative and we're chasing him now, also Cloud has memory issues. Genuinely could've done with being fleshed out a lot more. Great music and so much potential that honestly was not reached in the OG.
8 and 9, 10 are far more fleshed out than OG 7. The remakes went with Cloud being an unreliable narrator right out the gate, they make it obvious that Aerith is annoying Cloud for the most part as she's projecting Zack onto him, Cloud is kinda dickish to everyone but especially Tifa whom keeps trying to be there for him and his dismissing of her till the halfway point of rebirth seems to be visibly upsetting her. There's also Tifa noticing holes in Clouds nibelheim story straight away. Clouds personality also makes it obvious why Tifa and Cloud did not get together earlier. That's just touching only on the dynamic that Cloud has with Aerith and Tifa. That said you can still set things up so he dates Aerith but Cloud clearly gets annoyed by how pushy Aerith is, which contradicts said choice.
I can't stress enough that it improves the narrative so much in so many ways that the effort to make changes so it fits with what Nojima has likely had in mind for almost 20 years as an EXPANDED version of the story is a small sacrifice. As for the whispers, I honestly love their addition as it reflects changes in the narrative for the better IMO, as again, I really did not want a 1:1 of the OG game as the story and characters are the most simple of 7-10. There's also some funny moments I enjoyed like when Cloud hugged Tifa near Aeriths house in remake, a moment nailing how awkward and tactless Cloud is, despite his best intentions.
Many things are not really open to interpretation anymore either for the most part, so long story short, massively expands the worldbuilding and character development, whilst fleshing out Cloud to be his own Character that reflects his personality that was in all his appearances starting with Advent Children, which is actually quite different from his OG personality, creating a larger contrast between Cloud and Zack, making Aerith seem annoying if anything. OG Cloud was the kinda Generic, Advent Children fixed this and the new Trilogy lines things up.
Again though, these games are exactly as they were intended, flashy action Rpg, Advent Children esque expansions of the original and not an outright 1:1 remake of the OG game. Kazushige Nojima is the overseer of the story of 7 for the most part and this is his vision when not held back by technical limitations or a strict release deadline and seemingly complete control.
You could even consider these a directors cut of sorts, and as usual with those, they make people equal parts elated and upset. They're also serving as a pseudo sequel also.
These games have become marmite because of how misleading the remake name was, as example is I loved the extra stuff with Biggs, Jessie and Wedge in remake but I am aware some considered in padding when it was actually just worldbuilding.

The original was full of minigames too though?, so much so the snowboarding mini game and bike section, chocobo racing all had images in every review and was seen as a highlight of the game at the time.

I am definitely not going to convince you that the remake, rebirth and the third game in the eventual trilogy is going to be enjoyable for you, odds are you're one of the fans that would've loved a 1:1 remake of 7. We would have never gotten this "remake" or rather a reimagining of 7 without the fan reception to advent children and with that extremely positive reception at the time, staff at square specifically mentioned trying to do 7 again but to resemble advent children, but only when the technology allows for it, they made specific mention of the combat being overhauled to resemble advent children, meaning turn based combat was the first thing axed in their plans.
They never intended to do a 1:1 remake, so there's no point in all the purists bitching about it online, they also aren't course correcting anything either when it comes to the story. It's either this or we only have the original and the compilation, I know what I'd prefer since OG 7 aged so bad I haven't touched it in over 15 years. Before that I played it through a few times and once more after advent children was released.
I wasn't being literal with the directors cut thing, I am well aware of whom worked on OG FF7 and whose now overseeing remake, it's the closest thing I could think of as they often tend to split a fanbase, games often have too many people working on them to be the vision of 1 person.
Honestly the time limit is more like it exists there and really doesn't hinder you at all. TBH it's kinda like how time limits in old games are like Streets of Rage, Super Mario and Sonic games. Either way you always have plenty of time and if you dilly-dally that much then it's more like you especially wait a lot for it when who would wait anyway?
So no need to speed run, no need to sacrifice side content or even have fun exploring places and talking with people. Just don't forget the game while it runs in the background lol.
It can cause you to panic before you realise how generous it actually is though and it also genuinely would have deterred many from giving the game a fair chance. It's actually a great game and I got the ending that required the most work to get, it wasn't a chore either but genuinely added massively to the worldbuilding of the game, I found myself caring about or at least curious about these stories at the end of the world. I was invested and wanted to explore every nook and cranny of this game.
It's a shame the best version of the game is stuck on the xbox series.

Well, that would be a really weird thing to try to do because whether or not I like the remake has nothing to do with what I said. I'm very much totally uninterested in trying to argue people out of their taste or the reverse. What I did say in my post, instead of the post you imagined I said and wrote a screed in response to, is that all the things you mentioned happened in the original. Maybe the fact that you haven't played it in 15 years is why you think all of this stuff is new.

Probably GBA, or PSP if it's just GBA with better graphics and not a port of DS. The 3D remake has completely different new systems and bonus content, and the overall balancing makes for a much harder experience than the original.
Ahh... no. Not for a first time player. Main story might be the same, but there is an ungodly amount of 'comic relief' dialogue added. Really would affect a first impression. It's also pretty mechanically demanding for someone not familiar with FF6.
T-edition changes the story less, but is pretty different from vanilla. Honestly, with FF6, maybe use a big fix patch and nothing else. Don't think you need to fuck with that game too much.
On a tangent, generally speaking, you probably want to avoid that one crack ship-looking FF6 hack that adds a bunch of unrelated SNES final fantasy characters to the playable cast.
