A hack aiming to provide the best possible experience by fixing bugs as well as terminology and script parity with modern naming conventions as well sourcing text from the Compilation and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, where applicable. While originally a PC version mod with a much greater scope of changes and customizability, this version is, nevertheless, an excellent way to re-experience this classic.

I'll update as soon as I can. It's not a softlock, though, it's a hardlock, when it happens.
 
Just now I found out that if you change the controls to Custom and then press Start to customize, the game softlocks into a black screen as soon as you close the menu. Doesn't matter if you actually changed the controls or not, if you did those two things, you're screwed.

Seriously, all I did was just swapping the X and O buttons cuz I'm not used to pressing O to confirm.
I'm not sure what the reason is yet, but for now leave the controls on their defaults; nothing I can do, sorry.
v1.03 patch just got released, it fixes the softlocking issue and added a readme.

The cover felt naked without the SquareSoft and 3 Discs icons so I touched it back up and added them in. The old copper colored Sony logo was overkill and didn't look right with it so I didn't include it
 
For anyone wondering whether the Shinra Archaeology Cut or Beacause is the version for them, reposting a comment from Shinra Archaeology Cut translator TurquoiseHammer describing the differences:

TurquoiseHammer went into a bit more detail regarding the PC version of the SAC's Cut Content additions, but as the PS1 romhack only covers 'Vanilla FFVII,' didn't feel appropriate putting that here.

Regardless of which version you choose, I gather both are marked improvements over the official translation, so enjoy!

So what's the Compilation trilogy about? The remake had a different storyline than the original FFVII I noticed. It says on the romhacking site, "where applicable" in regards to both the compilation and remake trilogies. So is this as close as possible to the original FFVII version that was in Japan only? I'm looking for the most accurate translation and the most accurate to the FFVII series in general. If this fits in with the storyline as a whole of FFVII then it's worth playing for me.
Compilation is not a trilogy, per se. Compilation is just every FF7 project which was released between original game and Remake - so Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Crisis Core and more smaller stuff.
Each of Compilation and Remake trilogy projects introduced (in different capacities) changes, different meanings and retcons to original game. Shinra Archeology retranslation (by their own definition) takes that in mind, while Beacause retranslation (again, by their own definition) works with information only from and for original game.

So "most accurate" in this case depends in what you seek. If you want to play FF7 like it was on January 31, 1997, but on English, then Beacause is you choice. Otherwise, pick Shinra Archeology.

Anyone know if this includes the cut content, like the fully restored Honeybee Inn, from the PC version?
 
I was under the impression Shinra Archaeology Cut also added cut content, like additional cutscenes and dialogue, that weren't in the original game. At least the PC version of the mod added the cut content. Does this version for the PSX include that too? If so, this is incredible!

I had the previous VII re-translation version (from STEAM I think?), but some of the "re-translation" bit off for me...
Granted, English is not my first language, but even I could feel weird reading some "off" localization; like a manga was translated by some fans, but their translations were off in some place, that kind of feeling.
I have to play this version through first though.

This mod was originally developed for the PC version with 7th Heaven. You can use the version I posted that includes 7th Heaven in the post to add this mod into yours and make it like this (just pick it from Browse Catalog in it)
 
Is it possible for them to put it on one disc? Or would it confuse the emulator?
