I've been labbing Azrael off and on for the past couple days now. Got a pretty good idea on how to play the character but there's still a few more things I want to clean up before taking him out into the world. Just have to figure out what the best combo routing is for his weak points and what to do on oki.

Azrael's basic gameplan is to land a hit that leads into a weak point marker (preferably both), do a mix up, an then either loop it or cash out for max damage. Knowing what to do on the knockdowns you get is very important for capitalising on a set weak point and continuing offence. Once you get in, you want to stay in, since his neutral isn't particularly strong.

Azrael is all about applying weak point markers, so any combo where you can apply both in one is very valuable. If you have one mark applied already, more often than not you can convert into a combo that re-applies both, though some starters like jabs will not allow for it due to hit stun decay.

Applying both in one combo without a pre-existing mark is much more edge case, but it can be done. Fatal counter combos take advantage of the extra un-tech time, allowing 6B into hornet to combo. 6B into hornet also combos from a throw in the corner. Hornet needs to hit high up in order for you to pick up the juggle.

I still need to practice many of these to get more consistent. Some of these combos are pretty tough.

Two pretty straight forward safe jumps. Hornet off a rekka juggle sets one up easily from anywhere on the screen. 6B > super jump > j.B > j.D is great for longer combos in the corner. The 6B has to hit fairly low to the ground, doing it after a 6A wall bounce usually gives you the right height.

I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the character now, gonna start trying to get matches tomorrow. I'll hit up the discord or see how active ranked is. Time to get beat up by people who haven't stopped playing the game since 2015.

This game's sick. Not many play it, but that's mostly because the netcode is bad. Unfortunately this one got left behind in the "rollback renaissance". Maybe one day.
I played the Ps2 version a bit. Got 3 on a deep sale on steam but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Normally Azrael's dash is not special cancellable, however it is jump cancellable. Prejump frames can be cancelled into specials, therefore if you end your special input with an up direction it essentially lets you cancel the dash into specials. Since Azrael's dash teleports through people you can preform incredibly fast cross-ups this way. It has other uses as well such as giving certain specials a little more range.
