Fighting Game Central

recently been visiting strive again cause of two reasons: one being cause of 2.0 coming out soon, and the other being just me missing giovanna again (still might be my single favorite fighting game character ever weirdly enough??? maybe actually but shes DEFINITELY up there lol), its the game id consider myself to be the best at, and i found out in my area theres a local scene for strive so i kinda wanna get better to be able to participate and place first hopefully!!!
I'm probably going to give Strive another go once 2.0 comes out, though I'm not exactly looking forward to it. It's never gone well before 😅. My gripes with the game are lengthy, to say the least.

this actually got me thinking about the scene where i live but theres deadass nothing save for smash or rivals of aether, got me wondering where id even start with hosting something myself

Speaking of GG I should get more into Guilty Gear Xrd, I may do a bit of -Sign- before going for Revelator and Rev 2.
Rev 2 has everything Revelator has so it can be skipped. Sign has some unique story stuff and some minor graphical differences. Rev 2 Also has a fairly active scene on PC if you're looking for games.

Ah right, they couldn't have included Rev as an update?

I guess it's yet another case of Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV.

I remember when Rev 2 came out you actually could upgrade from Revelator instead of buying a whole different game. This was not the case going from Sign to Revelator.

Revelator was a pretty significant jump from Sign. Rev 2 was just a small update in comparison.

Very late to thread but I've just gotten in to them, kind of feel like I really missed out now! So far I've been playing:

SF6 - I'm learning with Luke but I'd like to go with Kimberly in the future, I love her walk animation!
Blazblue Central Fiction - I have no idea what I'm doing!
Dragonball FighterZ - I can't really decide on a team, feeling it out. I'll probably just play what I like!

I really want to get Strive in the future, definitely Marvel Tokon and I would like to try City of Wolves as well as DoA when it comes out. I'm not sure what I prefer at the moment I'm just big in to DBZ so FighterZ has been taking up my attention most of the time.

Since I'm pretty new I was just curious, what does everyone here think of the new Avatar fighting game coming out in the summer? Does it look good by your estimation? And what do you think of 2KXO?

Been getting back into fighting games the past month or so, the release of Alex in SF6 brought me back. There's a bunch of games I want to learn/re-learn. Currently trying to pick up BlazBlue. It's pretty fun and reminds me of the old Guilty Gear games, though I'm going through a bit of a character crisis. It's also making me want to get back into +R and Xrd. Bunch of stuff on Fightcade I want to play too.
Unfortunately there's just too many game and no many time, so I guess we'll see which ones I actually get around to ::eggmanlaugh .

Strive is doodoo; go play XXAC+R and Xrd Rev 2—those games are way better and more fun than Strive
Every Strive update makes me grateful that my past self decided to go with UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH over Guilty Gear for my anime fighter fix

Daisuke Ishiwatari's music really did peak with XXAC+R and Blazblue, nothing in Xrd or Strive comes even remotely close and it's fucking sad.

Eh, regardless of what happens with Strive doesn't change the fact that Xrd is still my favorite fighting game of all time. Not like it's going anywhere.
However I will be giving Strive 2.0 a shot once it comes out. Must be the Stockholm syndrome 😅

XXAC+R is my favorite, and I consider it the pinnacle of the franchise in just about every way. Xrd is good, but some of the issues plaguing Strive actually started back in that game.

Xrd is still leagues better than Strive tho

Honestly, me being a more casual Guilty Gear fan, I'm a fan of the characters and music more than anything. For some reason though, even if I like some of the character redesigns, I'm just not that interested in ever playing Strive. And part of that is because of the fanbase tbh.

Yeah that part really sucks. Pre-Strive the Guilty Gear community looked completely different, you don't see those same people/players/personalities around any more.

Gotta disagree partly, think the music between XX and +R is pretty close. Not a fan of the "lyric slop" in Strive though :ROFLMAO:

+R is a higher execution game, Xrd made it a little easier but didn't lose any of it's depth. YRC can be polarizing and does slow the game down a bit. No one likes danger time. +R is almost equal to me so which is best doesn't matter much.

It looks really fun; I'm excited.
i actually got to be in both playtests but honestly im not really feeling it

the game was really fun for that first weekend but since we didnt have a release date at the time i figured the system would undergo some serious changes because it felt undercooked

turns out that's just how the game is gonna ship and the characters themselves feel a little restrictive in what you're allowed to do with them which is good for tourists i suppose but i can't see the game maintaining a community 10 years from now unless theres adjustments in the future

Seeing how modern AAA fighting games are nowadays I am fine going back to some obscure and semi-obscure doujindie fighting games:

Street fighter 6 is almost pulling me in but I really do not want to spend money on it given how bad being a day one street fighter 5 fan worked for me ::sailor-embarrassed

I'm holding out for Tokon, played the beta and had the most fun I've had with a new fighter since Dragonball Fighterz. I'm an OG SNES era fan of Street fighter and I've love most street fighter games but 5 made me paranoid about any new games, even though Capcom has been on a serious roll lately.

Invincible VS had the perfect excuse to be a arena brawler but they still chose to be a 2D fighter...

I feel like dragonball fighterz sales being pretty great for a 2d fighter may have caused some companies to think their ip would suit it, I've no idea what riot were doing with 2xko for example.

Invincible has Injustice and the marvel fighters to go against too.

Off the top of my head though, I can only think of japanese titles that went with the 3d arena brawlers, not so much modern western IP's, thought there was a few back in the ps2 era. There's also the divisive opinion on arena brawlers from fighting game snobs. 2D fighters are the hardest games to market and also have lower slaes on average compared to all other types of games an IP could utilise ::sailor-embarrassed

Speaking of which, I hope Injustice rots in its grave. NetherRealm should do something else entirely if they do another DC fighter.

I have a softspot for the portrayal of superman in the injustice games, especially Superman in Injustice 2, however it really just has that grimdark vibe and also has way too many batman characters and stages for my taste. It's also really not very reflective of DC comics characters as a whole and more so reflective of a new 52 vision but with a side of "our heroes our actually cool but lets make them darker" vibes. In the mean time marvel had a lego game come out around that time, that was beloved which was ironic given the direction that dc went in with injustice. Then again the Snyder movies did the same thing, whereas marvel was going big, bright and comic accurate, visually at least. DC just went all dark and broody for about 10 years.

I'm curious about why you want injustice to rot? nothing against it, what was it you didn't like specifically? ::thinking
