Here is my wildest take :
Tao Feng is actually cool and even fun .
Yes the cover is hideous as if the character exile (on the cover) tasted some forbidden chocolate .
But this game has something so next-gen on it but at the same it looks like a made-up game too from a sitcom .
What suprised me was that the graphics hold up really well and the character models looked great . Even the females looking appealing somehow .
While the gameplay is rather weird and very strict with its inputs ( you press the buttons strictly how many times they should be pressed and in a specific rythm to get the whole combo successfully ) , the concept of the damage models where very great from round to round and even a limb-damage system was added that give that game another interesting spin .
EVO-material ? Never . How the balance is in the game is really a chaotic experience .
But a fun-fighter to play for few matches inbetween ? Absolutely fun .
Sad that this game got bad rep but it has something that made it still outstanding . The UI , the soundtrack , the over-the-top 2000s martial arts shenanigans and the modern asian-culture setting just somehow sells it .
