Fighting Game Central

I played loads of Melty Blood Actress Again years ago, I was a Ciel and Arcueid main mostly. You're not getting the true experience unless you play it on a laptop keyboard huddled together in the school library.

the one time i played the game at a friend's house i played and enjoyed manon - this was around a week after the launch of the game
i might have to bump up the sfvi fighters edition game on my to-get list when money flows a bit more freely for me

This is the real poverty fighting games, you need to have a busted laptop and bad connection to play it, it's written in the rules. Also, all tournaments need to be on the bathroom

Lads it’s time you either whip out a bag of popcorn or a box of tissues cuz this’ll be either extremely entertaining, or extremely harrowing depending on your main.
The closest thing I have to a main is Blanka and he basically got no changes. Which is fine I guess, he was already pretty good but it is kind of boring. Blanka got some notable nerfs in the very first big balance patch but ever since then they just give him the smallest buffs when it's time for changes.

For me, it'll always be Arcana Heart, though Im only really grinding Strive these days. Season 4 is a disaster lol.

More recently, I've been enjoying Hyper SF2, playing and comparing the different versions of characters.

Notable characters to mess around with are the CPS-1 versions of Ryu and Ken, as they have access to their cr.short > s.fierce chain in WW/CE/HF. Zangief's World Warrior version also is much closer to the opponent after using SPD, albeit he lacks green hand and movement during lariat.

One of the character's that I find the most interesting to me is Sagat:

- O.Sagat found in ST is not identical to SSF2's Sagat. O.Sagat in ST can special cancel the second hits of his s.short and s.forward, but SSF2's Sagat cannot.

- CE Sagat has the best low tiger shots. 37f recovery is incredibly oppressive. Later versions are nerfed. I still personally like playing O.Sagat slightly more because of the cancels I mentioned previously, though.

- Holding Start and selecting Super as your version gives you the O. Version of a character, so O.Sagat from ST and SSF2 Sagat are both available.

- In previous versions of HSF2 before CFC1, O.Sagat's low tiger shot was bugged, having more recovery than intended. This was fixed for the fairly recent CFC1 release.

Given Hyper SF2's somewhat scattered/undocumented differences, it has been very fun to see how the characters have changed over the various revisions.

Think About It GIF by Identity

I’m a Ryu main so this list in my objectively humble opinion, is a fair and solid list of changes
Metal Gear Solid GIF
Ryu has been getting pushed hard by Capcom with these patches, he's eating good. Denjin'd Lvl 1 is incredible, it flies full screen in like half a second almost and let's you cash out on a bunch of different stuff.

I went over my mains already in the last thread (Honda, Guile, sort of Gief) and they didn't really get too many changes which is completely fair. Guile is already pretty damn good, and Honda is just Honda; I don't think there's much you can do for him outside of fundamentally altering his moves/giving him new ones and that's obviously not happening. Gief got 90% nerfs which is probably fair as he's been overturned from what I've been gathering since the last big patch.

Fascinating stuff. The multitude of different SF2 versions is such a wild ride of character changes, given how none of them are really officially documented. I'd probably take O.Sagat from ST too, cancelling the second hit of S.LK seems pretty good considering how long ranged it is. And the low tiger shots aren't as bad as in CE, but like they're better than 95% of the others characters still.

Been messing with some more MK Gold lately. While I still believe MK4 to be overhated, MK Gold sure as hell doesn't help its case. The original roster is unchanged. No nerfs, no preventing Max Damage, nothing. Reptile still has a busted axe, Fujin and Reiko still have one of the easiest Max Damage combos in the game, and Kai is still terrible, lol.

But the new characters are just absurd. Cyrax just has insane mobility with tbe air grab and teleport, Kung Lao has the busted Reptile axe, Mileena has TWO moves that can loop onto themselves for max damage, Baraka can kill you with two combos, and I'm sure we've all heard the legends regarding Sektor.

But I'm actually gonna cover someone else: Noob Saibot.

See Noob was a hidden character in MK4 and had a very basic moveset, fireball, air fireball, teleport. They adjusted him in Gold, taking out the air fireball and adding the old Ghost Ball from Trilogy, although it only stops you from blocking this time. Problem is, in some revisions, it only applies the debuff to Player 2. Meaning, if you're Noob as Player 2 and you hit one of those, you apply the debuff to yourself for hitting your own move, LOL.

Last but not least, you can still do the Ghost Ball in the air like the old air fireball. Problem is, if they get hit by it, they get stuck in the air. Incredible stuff. ::lol

Jesus, I've heard Gold was a famously hated game (never played it myself, I was never that big into the old OG MK's) but that's hilarious. Yeah, I can see why everyone dunks on it.

And it's mostly down to the new characters. Yeah MK4 vanilla was kinda broken, but what MK game isn't? The thing with MK Gold is that it reaches Rainbow Edition levels of broken, lol. There was a later revision that fixed SOME issues, but even then it wasn"t enough.

I can't really have an opinion since I suck at fighting games and therefore didn't develop much of an interest in them, but I like Dead or Alive 5 simply because it's accessible for casual players and the graphics were amazing for its time.

Favorite character is definitely Morrigan, she's just too beautiful and stylish.

Absolutely - low tiger shots are very strong in every iteration of SF2, I'd say.

There are a number of rather strange omissions and oddities in HSF2. CE Dictator's original USA revision had a 6-hit Psycho Crusher, which appears to be the nerfed 3-hit version found in the later revisions here.

A secret way to select the broken WW bosses would've also been nice, just for the sake of completion (which is possible via the romhack HSF2++, though I have not messed around with it myself).

Additionally, ST characters should be able to tech all throws, not just those from other ST characters. It also makes the game feel incomplete. Generally speaking though, I really enjoy HSF2.

have any of you all played capcom fighting evolution? such a strange concept of a game but fun to play casually with friends
ryu v urien in that game feels like a mountain fighting a hurricane
I wish I liked CFJ/CFE, but the game feels very jank - comparing the way that Urien feels in SF3 compared to CFJ, and he is far less natural in CFJ as he lacks a sense of weight, for lack of a better word.

The systems likely would've benefited to being chosen before selecting a character, similar to the groove system of CVS2.

The famous kusoge, as some people would say. The game was such a lazy and broken mess, there's too many issues to really name off here. That being said, I spent some decent time with it back in the day too.

Played it more than I'd like to admit, which isn't a lot. It feels like Mugen before Mugen was a thing, just a strange mishmash of stuff with not much thought behind it. Taking this into account and the game we were supposed to get in its place, yeah, it's panned for good reason, lol.

Rented it once many moons ago, played it for about an hour and never touched it again. I don't remember a ton about it these days except not liking it a great deal.

I had fun playing a bit of Fighting Evolution/Jam at a local via the recent collection release. It's cool that they have two bosses from Red Earth playable. Probably not something I'd play outside a local but fun while I'm there.

Trying to derust survivor mode in +R. It's been some time since i tried some runs. This is the first time i died to Chipp lmao. I'm still trying to get used to my first ever mechanical keyboard and this new layout i'm playing. I've been playing for years with a janky stiff membrane keyboard full of ghosting
