A few weekends ago, I played through the Vita version of Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, which features a roster of anime characters that were vaguely-popular around the early 2010s. That was the last time I ever kept up with newly-released anime, and I like pretty much all of those characters, so I ended up having a lot of fun! The game has a very large amount of single-player content – separate, fully-voiced story and challenge campaigns for each character! – and some neat stages based on SEGA games like Sonic and NiGHTs.

It also got all the original VAs for each character on board, and the spritework is excellent, so everything looks and sounds as it should. You can even unlock high-rez character artwork and the original novel covers for each IP! I expected to just screw around with this game for a few minutes, but I liked it so much I ended up 100%ing the entire darn thing. (I only wish that the Vita PSN servers hadn't been turned off so I could play it online.) If you're looking for a game where Kirino from Oreimo and Taiga from Toradora! can beat the shit out of each other, this game is for you! I also really like the theme song, which plays during the final round of each match.

This game is super easy to pick up and super fun.

Too bad it died super fast when it came out on PS3, but one of my favorite online fighting game experience.

Hard to choose favorite games, it's quite hard, let's see.
I played almost every fighting game that came out, even the more obscure ones (Uniel, Chaos Code, Yatagarasu, Million Arthur, Aquapazza, NitroBlaster ...) but my favorites would be :

- Started with SF2, then Fatal Fury Special and TMNT on Snes
- Played a lot of SF3 on Ps1
- Started playing online with Blazblue. Then played a LOT of Persona Arena.
- Then I tried on fightcade a lot of games that I missed, my favorites being Real Bout 1 and 2, Breakers Revenge and World Heroes 2 Jet.
- Also played BBTAG quite a lot when it came out, bought it again on Ps4 but didn't end up playing it.
I started playing SF5 around the time of the release of the Champion Edition, I enjoyed it a lot.
I Also own SF6 but didn't play more than a couple hours. Maybe in 2025. Maybe... ::biggrin

This is basically light novel smash bros ?

I think the reason people forget SF1 exists is both that's it's objectively terrible and that's it's obviously overshadowed by 2. I've played it, and yeah there's not much else to say about it other than it was broken in the worst ways.
See, I'd disagree that, while it is undeniably terrible today, for 1987, its two competitors were Yie Ar Kung-Fu and Karate Champ, both of whom play somewhat similar, so I guess it was just considered the norm for those days...then again, Fatal Fury wasn't popular until a few revisions later. I mean, you could also get in to the punch and kick pad side of things, but that just makes it look worse. I reckon Capcom should commission an official rom hack of the original to let you play as other characters.
I'm not going to lie, an official 'New Challengers' re-release of SF1 with more characters added in what be pretty hype, but somehow I doubt it's going to happen unfortunately. They did throw it into the semi-recent 30th Anniversary Collection and I think that's the last mention the poor game is going to get.
Oh yeah, no, that game is dead. We'll see yet another revision of Street Fighter II before we see anything Street Fighter 1 related.

Street Fighter One M.U.G.E.N Remake.

Another mugen Street Fighter game. This time, it is a remake of original very first Street Fighter game, simply called Street Fighter 1, that is also known in home ports as Fighting Street.

Originally, when original game was released back in the days by Capcom, it was literally broken and unplayable. Fighting system was unresponsive, controls were uncomfortable and the game itself didn't had any character to play as. You could only play as Ryu in 1 Player mode, and if you play in 2 players mode, then you could play as Ken, and that's it. And the soundtrack... well, most of it was just a mess of the sounds, that could make your ears bleed.

And so now, after many years, fans decided to bring back very first Street Fighter game, using mugen engine, but they decided to fix everything that was broken. And thus we have this here. A, almost perfect, remake of original Street Fighter 1 from the arcade days, but for the PC with everything been fixed. Fighting system is now feel to that of Street Fighter 2. Controls are now responsive and uses 4 buttons control + movement buttons. And most importantly, you can now play as all of the Street Fighter 1 characters in many different game modes! Each characters also has now two super moves, that uses a super metter, similar to that from Super Street Fighter 2.

But what are the playable characters? Well, it is Ryu, Ken, Retsu, Geki, Lee, Gen, Joe, Mike, Birdie, Eagle, Adon, Sagat and a bonus guest character Cody from Final Fight game. The stages are the same from original game too, including one new for Cody.

The soundtrack got fixed too. The game now uses a PC Engine CD soundtrack, that sounds a lot better, than that mess from original arcade version. So now, your ears will be in full comfort, as you listening to the updated soundtrack.

The only problem that this game, probably has, is it's AI that becomes very anoying at the end. But, i managed to beat this game as Ryu one time, an a key to beating it is been agressive towards AI and, most importantly, develope your own strategy and combos that you gonna use against it. But yeah, if you never played fighting games, or if you are not very experienced fighting games player, then you gonna have troubles, fighting against AI in this game.

So yeah, if you ever wanted a improved and fixed original Street Fighter 1 game, then here it is. It is free, so grab it and go have fun.

I dislike coming after 3 pages because I need to read everything but while I'm not great at fighting games I really enjoyed the original Melty Blood, SNK's games in general and Guilty Gear (especially for the universe and OSTs).

I love that SF1 remake.

PS: I also enjoy niche fighting games and I enjoyed playing Tobal N°1 in homage to Toriyama.

in no particular order

super street fighter 2 x
fatal fury special
virtua fighter 4 evo

oh and yeah Virtua Fighter is back :D

Hell yeah dude, I think I'm going to be getting into the new VF for sure.

Is this controversial to say that sadly SF II in its original form hasn't aged the best? I mean sure it was revolutionary but it feels so slow and the lack or super is really handicapping.
Not exactly controversial, it's just like, say, Resident Evil hasn't aged as well as it's Gamecube remake. Time passed and the base mechanics were revised and updated with new ideas and technology, which is normal. No harm in pointing out that it isn't as evolved as the decades of games that it inspired.

I mean, SF II only even has combos because of some unintended game logic, buuuut that's also *why* we have combos in fighting games.

Maybe having played Alpha and III retroactively made World Warriors like they're underwater.

And let's thank that unofficial Rainbow Edition for inspiring Capcom exec into speeding up the game.

That's not controversial, like @ATenderLad said. I mean, as long as everyone agrees SF4 is the best, all opinions are equal.

Also, I've been tempted a little bit to play some SF6 again. I haven't played since a few days after Terry came out, and the latest changes to Honda have got my interest a little piqued. It also seems to have nerfed Ed a bit, which to me is good as half the reason I stopped playing was I finally got tired of fighting only Ed's doing the exact same stuff in Master rank.

Just found out there's a fighting game thread hell yeah! I don't think I can even pick 3 fighting games as my top 3. I've always been bad with making favorite lists of any kind lol. I guess if I had to pick I would go with:
Capcom Vs. SNK 2

Also I've been putting a ton of my free time into Street Fighter 6! Absolutely love the game since it came out. I used to main Ryu, E Honda, and Kimberly but I've put all my time into playing Terry since he came out. If you want to fight sometime just friend me on the game! My username is Mina (mainly because I didn't realize my avatar name was also my username lol) and my User Code is 3975089360. Happy Fighting!

I wish I could focus harder on fighting games. I've always loved playing them, but I noticed some years back that I buy every new one that releases, learn the game a bit, and then burn out.

Had slightly better luck with KOF 15 and especially SF6, but I hit Platinum with Marisa and then quit out of fear of dropping in rank.

Hell yeah dude, CvS2 is one of my favourites too. It's such a beautiful broken mess in all the best ways.

Also hell yeah, I've been tempted to get back into SF6 lately. Master rank Honda, diamond something Guile and I think I had Ryu in Diamond 1, but I may have dropped back to Plat with him as my Ryu was not the best.

The one thing I learned through SF4 and particularly 6 was to let go of 'rank fear', both in gaining it and losing it. There's so much nonsense that goes on in a fighting game (again, particularly 6) that worrying about it is just going to drag you down. I definitely feel you about not having time though, that was the other reason I stopped playing 6.

Oh, no doubt you're right. I *did* leave out that I'm a bitch who hates losing though, GOD I hate losing SO MUCH.

Slightly more on topic:

I'm so ready for this, and the way the video transitions to something like Evanescence gets me freaked!

I love smooth 2D animations a lot but I also enjoy the style of low poly games, I enjoyed my playthrough of the SF EX trilogy among other games like Tobal, Zero Divide, Ergheiz, Evil Zone and others I forgot about.

Re-downloaded Street Fighter 6 last night, fired it up today and jumped right into matchmaking. I've played this stuff my whole life, who needs training mode?

Me, I need that. Some kind soul with a Diamond rank Cammy graciously kept volunteering to beat my ass until I remembered what all the buttons did, bless 'em.

What a kind soul that Cammy was, reminding you of the buttons in the true spirit of christmas.

I'm glad Cammy finally got a little taste of the nerf in the latest patch, she somehow managed to get by with little to no changes until now despite being a very dominating character; she's not Akuma/Ed/Bison tier, but still.

So many great ones.

OK, to anyone who's played The Rumble Fish +, I have to ask: Am I doing something wrong, here? I can barely beat the first three stages in arcade mode with any character. They all feel really sluggish and heavy, and I'm having a lot of difficult pulling off special attack and defence moves. I didn't think I sucked at fighting games that much, but at this one I clearly do.

Is there something I should know about the controls or something going into this? I'm playing the PS4 version with a standard controller. I really like the idea and characters of the game, and I'd love to be able to at least beat arcade most once, but that little kid character keeps teleporting around the stage and backflipping over me and absolutely kicking my behind whenever I get to his level. If there are any experts, please, tell me where I've gone wrong.

@Gorse: Before I mention anything else, I'd consider the Rumble Fish 1 to have a difficult arcade mode compared to most others I've played. It starts getting difficult pretty quick, as you noticed.

In all instances, use your character's offensive art when available. The CPU had a difficult time countering the supers. I believe I'm missing a few characters, but here is what I can say from how my first arcade run went:

Vs. Orville - keep your guard up, do your best to not let him get in. Use projectiles to keep away if possible. If he comes close, try using low attacks. One of his charging attacks can be stopped by a low.

Vs. Viren - He's very aggressive. Block when he's near. Viren seemed to struggle more when I was jumping in to attack.

Vs. Boyd - I beat Boyd by being overly aggressive. The CPU didn't seem to do much to stop the aggression. You can time him out after you lower his health and run away.

Vs.Typhon - Very difficult. I switched from Raya to Typhon for a mirror match. This ended up becoming a fireball war. Used Typhon's 3 fireball attack (his forward, half-circle forward Punch move) to chip away at his health, as well as his other projectile moves that he can use mid-air.

Vs. Hikari - As Typhon, I used projectiles and ran away, winning on my first attempt.

Vs. Greed - SNK boss syndrome. Talk about aggressive. In my case I switched back to Raya to finish the fight. Trying to combo is asking for trouble. Keep away from the character like your life depends on it. When he runs at you, sweep him using crouching strong kick. Use projectiles if far away.

I'm definitely not a Rumble Fish expert, but this was how my arcade run went, at least.
