Gen 1 is between Arcanine, Dragonite and Zubat
Gen 2 is Cyndaquil, Suicune and Lugia
Gen 3 is Swampert, Skitty and Kyogre (Groudon is fine too but i guess i choose Kyogre over them?)
So there is more on Gen 4. i pick Darkrai, Cresselia, Shinx (my all time fav), Palkia and Giratina

Gen 5 also has a lot. Zorua, Snivy, Virizion, Volcarona (i have a Volcarona card in my wallet as well as two Shinx cards) and Deino
Gen 6 gets Fennekin, Espurr and its evo, Froakie purely for its shiny, Noibat, Sylveon (favourite eevee evo) and Dedenne (love that stupid looking rat)
Alright i dont have many favs on Gen 7 but i love Litten and Mareanie
Gen 8 gets Toxtricity, Hatterene and Zacian
Gen 9: Sprigatito and Tinkaton

For Gen 1 it was very close, I debated between Beedrill, Vaporeon, and Porygon, ended deciding on Beedrill but their three of my all time favourites, with Meowth is a runner up

Gen 3 I also really love Bagon

Gen 4 honourable mentions: Porygon Z and Frostlass

Gen 5 was another device one for me, I really love Cofagrigus, Reuniclus, and Galvantula too, but I landed on Scolipede. Honourable mention goes to Lilligant

Didn’t have a favourite for Gen 8 and 9

I love to ramble so extra nonsense - My first Beedrill I named ‘Lovely’, I thought that was such a good name a reused it multiple times over multiple games. For one I had a team with a Hypno and a Slowbro both named ‘Lovely’

Pokemon died after gen 7. Z-moves were a final love letter to the fans before they sold out.

Here's a list I made using the ultimate favorite Pokemon picker. I didn't play gen 8 so I skipped that one.

Here are my favourite from each generation. Favourites are based on a mixture of design and battling prowess.
Gen 1: I know it is as basic as you can get but what can I say, badass dragon is appealing and was what got me into the series in the first place.
Gen 2: Just a very distinctive Pokemon that is a interesting blend of cute and unsettling.
Gen 3: Another great design that has a cool origin in japanese folklore. Added fairy type in gen 6 also makes it even better to me.
Gen 4: Absolute tank that once it gets one or two sword dances under its belt is an unstoppable beast. If you are lucky enough to have poison heal as an ability, pop a toxic orb on it and it can really be a valuable member of your party.
Gen 5: Object based pokemon get shit on a lot but Chandelure shows how creative these concepts can be when you really put the effort in. Cool design, amazing typing and insane special attack easily made this my favourite of the Unova mons.
Gen 6: Pistol shrimp are awesome little critters and having a Pokemon based on one was long overdue. Easily the most badass looking shrimp I have ever laid eyes on. Mega launcher is also a fantastic ability that compliments its moveset perfectly.
Gen 7: When I first saw this I knew it had to be my starter which is funny as grass starters are usually my least favourite. But it is such a cute little fella and gaining a secondary ghost type in its final form is pretty sweet as well, however, Rowlett wins out just on sheer charm for me.
Gen 8: Barracudas are some of the coolest looking fish out there and I was delighted they finally got represented in Pokemon. Love that it does not have the typical blue colouration of water types and that little maniacal grin gives it a ton of personality. Barraskewda being a glass cannon with high speed also makes it a rarity among water types and makes sense seeing as actual barracudas hit fast and hard as well.
Gen 9: At long last, a fire starter that is quadrapedal! Torch song is an absolutely busted ability and its bulk ensures it can stick around for a good while it is out on the field. Fiery spooky crocodile is also one of the more interesting concepts for a Fire starter that Gamefreak has come up with in years. Makes me happy also that the Skeledirge line confirms that fire starters are not restricted to the Chinese Zodiac as was speculated on for so many years.
