I'm thinking about getting a cat but I'm not always there and I'm afraid something will happen to the cat if he's alone.
Cats are generally quite independent and can often be left alone for a certain period, provided some precautions are taken. If you plan to be away, ensure your home is cat proofed to prevent any accidents, and make sure your cat has access to enough food and water. It's also important that your cat is healthy and well-trained.
However, for longer absences, it's advisable to have someone check in on your cat regularly or look after them. Since I’m not a Cat expert, I recommend doing your own research and consulting with professionals to ensure your cat's safety and well-being.

Oh this could all be problematic but I haven't decided yet.

It's always important to think it through carefully before deciding on something, especially if it could impact another life. However, if your heart is set on it, you could watch some videos about what to do and what to avoid when you have a cat.
By the way, have you considered which cat breed you want to get? It can influence their needs and character, after all, to some extent.

This cat breed looks really majestic, the eyes are beautiful.

I'm not a big cat fan but I like other people's cats because I don't have to spend too much time with them. I don't think cats should be kept indoors all day if you have to work. Get a cat flap on the door or leave a small window open. Might be no harm to raise a dog with the cat so you will at least have an intruder alarm if yer leaving a window open. Some cats get creepy when they get old. They make this weird weird continuous noise like a baby crying when you are trying to sleep.

Just a few things to consider. BTW, how is this in Gaming Discussion, lol?

Tabby cats are a classic for me. Growing up, my little buddy Tango was a tabby, so I'm biased.

On a similar note, ginger cats are also great. I like the stripes on both.

And I don't know what it is, but I am incredibly biased toward calico cats' markings, too.

Norwegian Forest Cat.
Although, all our cats have been moggies (one a plain ol' farm cat, one who was likely 50% or 25% persian), but me and my brother's current cat is most likely at least half norwegian forest cat, although he was born in the wild and a rescue, so it's hard to know for sure.
I'm not really comfortable with the idea of purebreeding cats as they never serve any practical purposes, like many dog breeds do, so I'll always prefer adopting rescue moggies, especially since they also need homes.

Here's a pic of him looking particularly proper ::heart

Here's a photo of our two family cats. The black one is a regular mystery meat moggie, while the orange one is the one who has some Persian in him (I think his mother was a Persian who got knocked up by some random stray), which was easy to see because of his round face and relatively flat muzzle.

Sadly, they both passed away calmly the same week earlier this month.
It was expected, though, because they were very old, 15 and 17 years old.

I think I like the ginger cats the best, they are the most wild natured. True to their origin. Probably not the friendliest but decent hunters.
The colors of a cat's coat doesn't actually have any bearing on their personalities. It's easy to think so though due to other actual reasons, for example, how most orange cats are male, and how most turtleshell cats are female, which might be factors for certain personality traits based on their sex.

Yeah, most gingers are tomcats. While growing up it was alway the ginger tomcats trotting around with a mouse or bird in it's mouth. The other colours, not as often for whatever reason.

"Cat" brand. ::smirk1

I'm a dog kind of person, never owned a cat, but if I had one, I'd really want one with the "tortie" tortoiseshell pattern, of black with golden-brown spots. I find them really really pretty and cute. Failing that, a regular black cat will do, they're great too.

this is officially my favorite thread ever

In addition to what's already been said, a cat should be at the very least paired with another cat it gets along with. They're somewhat social and prone to anxiety when left completely alone. Having just one cat is suboptimal.

Your bog standard street cat. Which around here is usually some domestic shorthair mutt. I rescued two street kittens. One is a long haired grey cat and the other is an orange and white tabby.

It's a good idea to adopt a pair of kittens or a bonded pair of adult cats. Kittens especially need to be paired unless you want to play a lot. I mean a lot. They will wake you up to play with them. You do not have kitten energy. Not even Superman has kitten energy. 😵
