I was playing SOTN for a while recently and it makes me think, the shield/item backdash cancel mechanic greatly improves Alucard's movement but it's probably not intentional from the devs. There are many other similar examples in this game, including progression skips that give it replayability by being able to explore the castle in an unintended new way. ::thinking

What other examples do you know about unintentional mechanics that improves the game somehow?

Stopping a bomb tossed in midair to make it explode where you want to using the boomerang in Smash Melee as Adult Link. Also using the boomerang to stop a full charge shot from Samus. Flipping backwards and bouncing off the opponent with the downward sword attack... Adult Link rules in Melee!

Rocket jumping in Quake is the first one that springs to mind

My favorite is using BS laws of physics of Half Life 2 to find glitches and stuff to make game more fun. For example:

This is just one method, other methods involves using collision of objects against Gordon to make the engine say "WTF" and make you launched like rocket and using vehicles + collision to fly high and thus skip some part of levels lol.

Valve just sucked so hard to program decent collision logic of the game you can even enter places normally you can't enter without even cheats but using the engine's weakness against itself lolol:

I'm not really fan of Half Life 2 per se but it was very fun to explore its glitches and stuff lol.

The original Tribes (1998) was not intended to have the franchises iconic speed, it was an exploit:
You can generate infinite speed in T1/TL, the maps were huge to accommodate vehicles.
In the later games they added it as a feature but included a speed cap. Boo

This is super cheap, but I love how you can trigger Gunther into killing everyone for you after freeing him in the original Deus Ex. Or how you can finish the first level early by choosing the GEP Gun and aim it at the top of the statue, offing the terrorist leader without ever seeing him.

I'm also a big fan of games that let you go out of boundaries by stacking boxes or just jumping on explosives.

like bouncing on bombs in Metroid games to get higher and higher.
