I was playing SOTN for a while recently and it makes me think, the shield/item backdash cancel mechanic greatly improves Alucard's movement but it's probably not intentional from the devs. There are many other similar examples in this game, including progression skips that give it replayability by being able to explore the castle in an unintended new way.
