In July 18, 2017, 2 game made by the same Developers were released Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire exclusively for the PS4 and Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion for the PSVita, there are pretty much the same game with the only difference being the story and the main protagonist, in 2018 those 2 games were combined and released as Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory for the Nintendo Switch and PC, that's the version which I am playing.

The game was developed by YummyYummyTummy which previously only made educational games, and published by NIS America

Gameplay

Do you like to do the same thing for 7 Hours ?

Because if you do you will love this game, There isn't much to the gameplay here, you select an stage, fight the a waves of enemies, defeated them until the stage ends or you have to fight a boss fight (Which sometimes is just a repeat of a boss fight you already had fought before) and them repeat this for about 50 times until the credits roll, there's very little variety here, this might not be such a issue if the combat here was simplistic but it's, before every stage you have to form your party, every character but it just boils down to how much damage that character can deal and how much damage that character can take, not only that this game despite playing like, sounding like and looking like a RPG, has almost no RPG elements whatsoever , which makes the repetitiveness worse because you don't even receive the melamine of seeing numbers going up.

The combat here is similar to Valkyrie Profile, there 4 character each has a face bottom assign to them, the main protagonist , which is always assign to the Triangle button can only use spells , the other can only do physical attacks, you can block an enemies attack by pressing the L1 button, and doing so is vital to your survival, know when to block is the only difficulty curve this game has, overall this game is every easy, and I only died it 6 times, 2 in a boss , 1 in another boss and 3 during the final boss, but I never died in the a regular fight, in VP this type of battle system works because every character feels different and you need to switch between them if you want to maximize the warrios you send to valhalla, not only that it has a lot of deth with it's acessory , it can be a challeging game and VP has a lot more things to do besides that, like it's amezing dungeon exploration, Fallen Legion is just derivative of VP battle system without undertanding what makes it good.

If I had to desgribe this game art it would be Vanilawere on a budget, it's just a generic medical artyle with no charm whatsoever , it's not particulary pretty to look at, not only that but one espefic character model fels like it was just added to the game with no regrads if it was read to be added on the game or not having inconsitent with the visual art style of the rest of the game, it fells like they just aded this character but run out of budget to make her look good with the rest of the game.

Story

1757628328468.png

It's not very good or particularity interesting, the Protagonist is an apparently famous and experience military strategist, despite looking like a 18 year old boy, and you are trying to do a coup d état, against the new Queen because she's under the influence of a evil book, and in the way you get betrayed a bunch of time because the writer couldn't think of something more creative to justify the 7 hour run time of this game, the other game that I didn't play and have no interest in doing so is with the Queen and it might have a better story than this one, but I have no interest in playing this game ever again.

Music

I finally have something overwhelming positive to say about this game, the sound track here is excellent being a Rock inspired JRPG Style sound track it gets my blood pumping to do the same thing for the hundred time, I don't think I would have beaten this game without it, and it's on Spotify even , 100% worth listen too if you like JRPG OST.

Pros
  • + Great music
Cons
  • - Repetitive gameplay
  • - Uninspiring Art style
  • - Boring Story
3
Gameplay
Imagine playing a turn base RPG with no levels, and all you do is spam the attack button against the same enemy over and over again until you see the credits, this is How playing this game feels like.

Graphics
Chat GPT: Here is a image that I gendered using the following prompt, "make a screenshot of a generic medical JRPG"
5
Story
The story makes no efford for me to care about the protagonist of the empire I am supposedly trying to protect, things just happen because the game has to justify itself
9
Sound
This is the best thing about this game, the composer here did a great job, I wish the game was as good as the music here
4
Replayability
If you count playing the "other Game" as the same game as this one but with a different story , you could say it has replay value, other wise there is no good reason to play this game after the end

Overall
I was lored into playing this game because I loved this game music before playing, and the screen shots made this game look quite decent, but I was fooled.

Whoa, for a sec I actually thought I played this game before. "Oh, this is that pay-to-play game I played on PS4 forever ago!". Turns out I played Grand Kingdom, & they actually have nothing in common!
Crazy how similar they look at a glance! The art here does seem alright though... well, certainly compared to GK anyway.

I actually play Grand Kingdom, it's alright, my Issue with it is that it's online server are down, but it was made by former Vanillaware employees and this game is trying to copy them, hence why they look so similar
