I agree that the term "weird" is kind of unfair here. It has kind of bad connotation. We could say "rare", as these games were unknown to western audiences and even to many japanese people as well :S

There is actually a mathematical formula to find what is "weird":

Weird = Absurdity x Unrealistic

For example this game is weird:

Because it's unrealistic due to fish have a human head, and then all situation is made absurd because how silly and intense it's. This is a scientific formula here!!! lol

Fighting game. Also a neo geo joint. Wild AF.

Astra Superstars
Fighting game. All the characters are suspended in the air and its super fast-paced!

Radiant Silvergun
Shooter. A Treasure joint. Recently released on the Switch, etc.

Silhouette Mirage
Platformer/Action-shooter game. Another Treasure joint. There's a whole whole wacky color-coded theme to this game (Like how Ikaruga does). Has an English patch in the repo.

Bulk Slash
Action/flight/shooter. Really interesting 3D action mech romp. Fast-paced! Has an uncanny mix of 2D sprites in 3D space but it works so damn well. Has an English patch.

Steamgear Mash
Action run-&-gun game. Has a way wild 3D-isometric P.O.V. Really wacky. Low-key fav of mine. (NEEDS and English patch).

Ninpen Manmaru
3D platformer. It's got its "of the era jank" and is hard as nails. But once you get the hang of it it's actually a blast (puts Croc to shame, IMO). It's based off a children's program from what I understand. Has an English patch in the repo.

Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru
Platformer/Action game. Absolute sleeper bop! I hate comparing to other titles but it's like if OG Castelvania boned Shinobi 3 and had a super-baby. Has a really awesome "2.5D" thing going on. Well worth the time.

Seaman if you can believe it isn't even the wierdest Voice Control game given there is a Somewhat successor to Seaman on the Xbox Japan only called N.U.D.E where you are teaching an anime Android girl to do things

Considering the ps2 had it's fair share of weird bootlegs(specifically of gta games like san andreas and vice city but mostly san andreas) I would like to see some the weirdest ones yet for all i know there's one bootleg that has a minecraft theme with it but i don't know it's name and also it's not in the world of minecraft it's just that the characters are blocky like minecraft and shit and the screens(loading and starting) are basically 2014 minecraft autodesk 3ds max renders straight from those parody videos anyway enough rambling

This looks SIIIIICK. I had no idea there was a Crocodile Dundee style arcade beat em up. It looks pretty decent.

Is SpikeOut still obscure? It's playable in one of the Like a Dragon games. It's an amazing co-op 3D beat-'em-up by Sega. Insanely fun, insanely hard to play these days. There's also a fantasy spin-off called SlashOut, but it's way too difficult.

The PC Engine/TurboGrafx library is full of weird and goofy titles, especially the Japanese one… If you're into shmups, I definitely recommend Cho Aniki: Kyuukyoku Muteki Ginga Saikyou Otoko (Saturn/PS1). If I remember correctly, the Saturn version is the more recent one, but it suffers from the technical limitations of Sega’s console…
