Panzer Front for the PSX (and its unfinished sequel on the PSX as well).

It's not gamer-friendly but when you immerse in it, it delivers an experience like no other.

I just beat Gaball Screen this morning, great little gem. I am a huge fan of these "non-games" that would come out on the PS1 by artists from other mediums like this and LSD Dream Emulator. In the case of Gaball Screen it was an interesting experiment in releasing music.

A bizarre experimental 1v1 robot arena fighter with RPG elements and cutesy visuals, I haven't seen much else like it.

Dude! I never expected anything Robo-Pit to ever be mentioned here. Personally I never played the first one because the Japanese language sequel improved on everything this game had, but I stand behind the Robo-Pit name

That being said, I will always always always mention Germs. Such a swaggy game, it is wholly unique in the library of the PS1.

It's a mix of a dating sim and JRPG that uses a turn-based system in a way that differs from other games of this period.

Music and Music 2000, software for making your own songs on the ps1. They were considered limited, even by the standards of the time but still reviewed well

Baby Universe, a glorified kaleidoscope that hit the bargain bin almost as soon as it released, partly because it was crap, partly because it released as a near full priced title

The only one, that hasn't been mentioned is the infamous Pepsiman(More of an advertisement package than a game).
Umihara Kawase shun, cool platformer, with heavy emphasis on physics and buyancy.

Deception is fairly obscure series from Tecmo. You basically set traps to defeat your enemies, first game is played from first person view and rest of the series is third person. Series is set in dark fantasy world.

I'm surprised no one's mentionned Planet Dob! It's a banger of a game, almost fully playable even though it's been untranslated. Not much text, and everything is so expressive and off-kilter that not being able to read almost brings something special to the experience.

It's a... rhythm point'n'click? Yeah, we'll go with that.

It’s on my profile, it’s gained MASSIVE notoriety these last couple years, and it’s near and dear to my heart.

Vib Ribbon is pure genius. Creating a fun game that fits in system ram so that you can swap out the music for other songs from CDs is smart enough, but to build that game to try and read those CDs and make levels based around them is even more brilliant. Though not perfect by any means, this means you can always have new levels to play, as long as you have new CDs on hand. And, as a fan of CD technology, I find that incredible.

Also, Vibri is cute and must be protected.

I own both, and YES! PS3 version is the way to go! It accepts CD’s!


The PSP version is clearly the worst, but I train on that version because it’s portable, so I can play it when I’m on the road.

I can check at some point to see if Ridge Racer has that functionality too. That’s another game that fits in RAM and you can swap the music for.

Play Digimon World. It is my favorite game of all time.

You start in File City and are tasked with recruiting Digimon to return it to it's former glory. It is a very calm game that can get intense if you try really hard.

I used a guide to "beat" it and still did not make the city to 100%.

The OST, Visuals are top notch too.
