Ever went on to chatrooms?

I was a little shit in 2006 and I was a literal monster in 2010.

I should have been killed.
How do you know you weren't, and this is your afterlife? But what does that mean for the rest of us here...?

"You take the blue pill — the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill — you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

I remember there was this chat room when someone unloaded her most traumatic life event she ever experienced out of the blue. I guess it embarrassed her intensely since she left the room every time I came in and no, I actually tried to comfort her but I suppose my knowing about it made my presence awkward. I don't blame her in the least.

There was also this program, Microsoft Comic Chat where your chat remarks were displayed in a comic format. Your remarks were in a thought balloon emoted by your chosen character and the whole chat looked like a newspaper comic strip. I really liked that and used to chat with other people voraciously on that thing but it went out of favor and got discontinued. I wish there was still something like that.

That was during a time when Microsoft was still innovative and not evil.

Dude! I read about that one in a magazine and thought it was the coolest thing ever (and so did the editor) but, sadly, I never got to try it out :/

Yes, but not since 1997 (or '98, I misremember). My stepdad bought one of the Microsoft WebTV appliances and I found a place called The Dragon Inn, which was an RP chatroom that would often crash when several people tried chatting at the same time. I was part of a small group that would pose as "null," a creature with no name (we had figured out how to do that) that would lurk and rarely speak.

I would dial in to a local multi-line BBS and chat with people on there. I actually met a few local people 2 grades above me the summer before I entered to high school. Worked out great because one of em would give me a ride to school in the mornings.

I remember being a young teen and talking to strangers in AOL chatrooms.

"A/S/L?"
OMG! Haven't read that in ages.

Amazing how no-one would reply to it nowadays.

Things have truly changed.

Nope, I don't want people find out what my voice sounds like, it could be used against me.

Same.

I'm VERY self-conscious about my English voice (I have been told I sound Russian, which, uuuuuuhhhhh...).

That's why I only use text.

Can you squat with your heels fully flat on the ground? You might be a Russian and you don't know it.

I thought for a second you were referring to IRC chats XD
I never used them, I'm already pretty reserved when talking to people that would have just been anxiety inducing to me.
The closest I got to using an IRC would be Discord. I still use it, just not directly. There's people I give a shit about that still use it there.

Those count as well.

Ah yes Yahoochat bring me back to my youth
Was also one run by a local radio station which was ptetty good in the early 2000's but they shut it down after a man used it to rape 8 teenage girls.

I was more into Yahoo answers just asking some ridiculous questions

I like how casually you said that middle part.

ICQ and chat roulette, those were fun times lol

A/S/L

:loldog

Not really, never where the kind of 'chat' person.

Even when all the forums added chat on the top, I just skipped it and went to the topics.

Yes back in the early 2000's my little sister used to use a chat room for Robbie Williams fans
i would jump on it if she forgot to log out and troll them by saying silly things in the microphone with my squeaky arse voice. i thought it was hilarious at the time
Robbie Williams himself (apparently) would occasionally make a comment once in a blue moon
and the chat would go nuts! but i never got to troll him personally

The fact that he would actually post on it makes that strangely heartwarming.
