Ever completed the Pokedex?

I managed to do it years ago on the Gold Edition. I was so proud of that! But I had to trade a lot of Pokémon, and that's not always so easy.

I don't remember much, but I think it had a list of Pokemon names and stats and it always made this beep beep beep sound. I still own half of it (the other half is lost).
Thanks for the explanation :)

Yknow actually I never did.
I mean to, one day. I've got hacks of Gen 1 and 2 that make it complete-able without trading. I just haven't dug in to one yet.
I've actually only ever beat the E4 once, and that was on a Yellow run with a solo Primeape.

That's actually far more impressive IMO.

I did something similar on Crystal: level 100 Feraligator + an HM slave and four "free Max Revive" slots to toss in when my main got inevitably knocked out and needed to be brought back.

The first Pokédex I completed was the one from X/Y. Since then I have completed Living Dexes in Sun/Moon, Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl and Scarlet/Violet. I have an almost complete Living Dex in Sword/Shield, but I am too lazy to complete the game and the second DLC a second time to get the mons I'm missing lol Right now I'm working on a Living Dex in the Switch rerelease of FireRed.

EDIT: Forgot that I also completed the Pokédex in Let's Go Pikachu and Legends Arceus. One of this days I'll make them Living ones.

I gave up in Gen III when things got ridiculous and it's not like I can anymore since I refuse to play the Switch games because reasons.

Couldn't catch it, he was quite sensitive and quick to run, even more than chansey on my experience.
Yeah, I can see how that would frustrate you, especially when the Pokemon itself wasn't even worth the effort.

I've never completed the Pokedex. It won't help me finish the game, so it's not worth the effort.
Yeah, that's pretty much the core issue right there: it's a VERY optional, brutal grind.

But I guess it really DID encourage socializing back in the day.

I did have HM Slaves, yeah. A Psyduck could do Surf, Flash, and Strength, and a Farfetch'd could do Fly and Cut. They didn't fight though, if Primeape KO'd they were dead anyways because they were so low level.
We didn't get to 100 though, I think it finished around mid 70s to 80s.
It was only doable because in Gen 1 Seismic Toss could hit Ghost types and Crit was all Speed.

Twice. Once during Gen 6. Made a full living dex that I still have in Pokemon Home. ORAS had a lot of mons you could access, especially legendaries. Everything else I painstakingly moved up from older titles.

Second time was I actually filled out the dex playing Legends Z-A. Much less difficult, but I enjoyed the game more than enough to put the time in. That being said, I didn't end up completing the new dex added for the DLC, because I did not enjoy that expansion at all.

I didn't know that! As a kid playing Yellow, I mostly stuck with the (very generous) line-up the game gave you and rarely ventured outside of it for mons... I mean, the three Kanto starters + Pikachu and the three legendary birds was definitely far too much, but I'd have loved to know that Seismic Toss could knock out ghost-types just to really mess with the game.

That said, Gen 1 is just super amusing to me precisely because of how unbalanced it was — you could avoid the cool down "penalty" to Hyper Beam if it happened to knock the opponent out (which it ALWAYS did). Your opponents would pre-select useless moves just because of type advantage. You were trolled out of a genuine advantage by having the only ghost-types being also poison-type (meaning they'd get absolutely wrecked by psychic-types), etc. It was a thing of madness... and beauty.

I only ever did it fir the first two gens since I knew a bunch of people to trade with.
I would never even try it these days.

I also only ever did it via cheating, however right now I am planning to get a living dex in Pokemon bw2 because it's my favourite Pokemon game of all time and it has the best looking sprites imo.

Only in gen1 and that was years later when I learned you could do the missingNo trick to spawn mew and monsters from other versions.

Careful with that, if you use GS.

Yellow was SO NOT COOL with that and would erase your save file if you abused it.

Nope, i never completed the Pokedex.
Right now I only have a Psyduck (captured in Hoenn) that can go ballistic.
