Ever bought a game just because you liked the cover/box art?

The back cover more so got my attention, but I was kind of already aware of the game to begin with, but never played it until one day in 2007 at my local Gamestop for $5.

Innovation came at a price in Comix Zone: a game that was too short and too difficult.

Shortness I can deal with. The difficulty on the other hand....

I've beaten the game twice and never again. If Sega ever decides to remake the game with actual proper checkpoints, tone down the difficulty, and lives, I'll consider it.

Indeed!

I did this with Heart of Darkness on the PS1 year and years ago.

Totally ended up working out, even if it is a completely brutal gaming experience to go through as a kid. View attachment 188680
Aint gonna lie, that is a PERFECT example. I remember this cover fondly and thought it looked awesome as a kid.

One example for me:
I just thought back in the day this looked so epic
(the game however, i hated it, but its grown on me over time)

Honestly...no. I'm more of the fan of games, but man did I start to love the art later on life. Still wish I could save most of the boxes for the games I owned...might been much richer as well. 500% times its original price, JEEZs.

This is how I found a lot of my favorite games... or really any game I might like for that matter. Cover art could do a lot to spark interest. I thought the cover for Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner was super cool, and I loved anime, and the rest is history. Became one of my GOATs and I still replay it constantly to this day.

The game is objectively not that good (it feels almost like a NES game but in 16-bits despite some good ideas like an experience system and having three separate characters for different situations) but I love 80's and 90's mechas.

Ok, I still think about the full powered fight against Anubis. Or the full on massive battle scene. Excellent game!

Awesome box art. Horrible esoteric "puzzles".
Eddie, it's you?

I recommend 5 spa sessions for this guy to get rid of the barnacles on his back 🤭

I unironically miss when they used clay models for 3D renders

Wow I actually didn't know the concept came from clay, that's really cool.
I know it looks uncanny but weirdly I think the aesthetic is rad and very of it's time.
It's not really the same thing but I get similar enegry from some of the Super Mario 64 ads with the renders they used... so pleasing.

the whole 8 bit/16 bit era. specially the 8 bit. Everytime I bought, rent or trade a game it was like hearing admiral ackbar screaming it´s a trap in the back of my head
