My dream as a kid, was to own every single console, and have access to every single exclusive, without FOMO, like regional locking, or buying at the right time period.

Emulation has made it a dream come true, and I couldn't be happier.

Of course, not all is perfect, since XBOX consoles are still hard to emulate, but I do see progress.

Emulation has been such a boon. Being able to play lots of stuff I missed growing up, without having to deal with the headache of the collector's market.
Definitely. Those collectors charge an arm and a leg for popular titles to the point that it's cheaper just to buy a new console! Cutting those guys out is just another boon emulation brought us.

The first emulators I remember in the nineties ran on ms-dos and were for 8 bit consoles, mainly gameboy, nes, master system and gamegear. I found them on a CD attached to a PC magazine, along with the first, shocking demos of early jpn hentai Visual Novels (e.g. legendary Sogna's Viper series).

where'd you find the magazine?

Unfortunately software emulation isn't perfect even for very old systems. Input lag, accuracy, and computer OS cruft are major issues even on mature emulators. Nothing beats the original consoles still. FPGA comes close though, consider getting a mister if you want to get more serious about enjoying old games more properly.

Emulation is good for reasons
-Games go for $30-$80, now go for $120-broken leg and kidney
-Consoles too expensive, no room to place them, Console and game may not work anymore after using it for too long
-Back then, you're either a Nintendo, Sega, Sony, or Xbox fan, you can only pick one for the rest of your life.
-Game was too hard, too long, or we don't have enough time to complete it.

Same, as a kid I wanted it all and now I can, for free.

The things that you can do now would make a kid from the 90s go into a seizure of joy:
  • Play and store games from every single computer, console, arcade cabinet, and handheld made from the 80s to the 00s on a single computer or handheld.
  • Play games from any region on your system of choice without modification.
  • Have built-in ways of augmenting games beyond original specs in the system, such as higher resolution, anti-aliasing, texture replacement, sprite replacement, widescreen, load time reduction, save states, rewind, fast forward, built-in cheats, and machine translation.
  • Be able to hack games to make them better than they were at release, including graphic improvements, gameplay improvements, audio improvements (MSU-1), better load times (SNES fastROM & SA1 hacks), and decensoring.
  • Not have to pay $235,000 ($448,095.35 adjusted for inflation) to own a collection of 3,000+ games.
The thing is, even if you miss the media of the past, the media of the past is often better now. Even nostalgia improves over time.

Actually Xemu is really great, I had no trouble finishing NGB multiple times, even on the harder difficulties

I never cared for FPGA, Retroarch solves all my latency issues for free, either with Run-ahead and Switchres or on a low latency lcd with VRR and a good frame limiter

for xbox emulation you're better off getting the console then softmodding it, unless its a 360 theres a promising new rockband blitz exploit comming up called "xbox 360 bad update" but it hasn't been proved stable, but hopefully will in the future.

Same here.
Emulation gave me the opportunity to play so many games I never had the ability to play (Either because I didn't have the console for the game or I didn't have money), and to revisit so many classics from my childhood.

Emulation was great when I was younger. My parents couldn't afford to buy much. Now I have adult money and can buy whatever I want. I have a good majority of retro consoles and handhelds. I usually only emulate out of convenience or laziness, but I know a lot of people don't have access to these games without them. I mostly emulate MAME games since I obviously will never buy or collect arcade cabinets or even the boards. I have an Anbernic 40XXV and EmuDeck on my Steam Deck, but again, I also own the consoles so it's great to have both worlds.

Emulation is awesome because you have thousands upon thousands of games accessible to you.

Emulation is great, but being able to get games not only running as in the console, bvut being able to get the mechanics, language or even entire game itself altered for nothing is also awesome, i would never beat Earthbound Zero/Mother 1 without the 25 anniversary patch, axing grinding while making scenaries less dull and obtuse, or SMW patches so complete they may as well be official games, the emulators giving access to great features such as Save and load, filters in case you lack a CRT and most important experience enhancing configurations make emulation pretty good, also with Online sellers being total madmen with pricing i can play my childhood games and save the money for day-to-day items or paying for more recent games that deserves the buck
