Emulating an Emulator

Now that I think about it, playing original Xbox games on Xbox One/Series is exactly this. The console is running an Xbox 360 emulator, and then it runs the 360's original Xbox emulator to play the game.

Wow, that sounds... non-optimized ?

I’m using gbSp on my Vita. So technically I’m emulating an emulator emulating an emulator lol.
What’s funny is that it’s a BILLION more times stable than mGba ever was for me.

Its possible. I remember running NGPC games inside a GBA emulator.

Emulating compilations that themselves use emulated versions of games

I remember playing NES games on PPSSPP

I've played a bit of Red Dead Redemption on Xenia running on Wine (bur Wine isn't an emulator). It was playable but I ended up playing the game on Ryujinx with better performance.

Other than that I'd try to avoid that emulator inception situation. For example I'd avoid playing a switch port of an arcade game and would play the original directly in FBNeo or MAME, specially with Retroarch's shaders and preemptive frames which are a must have for me at this point.

I heard you like emulating in an emulator.

I am trying to figure out how far we can take this, like if we emulated an Amiga or something and then ran an emulator of another system within that, only to run even more emulators within it. Like going all the way down.

Yes i know this is stupid, but who has done this or is up for the challenge in doing it?

i don't think you could go very far with this. the main problem is that every game system more or less has it's own language that it speaks in. this is why it takes a long while to port games from one system to another if it is even possible. i heard that the banjo kazooie games had to be rebuilt from the ground up for the xbox 360 because it had a hard time interacting with the n64 data.
the best bet for your idea is to make a game, then have it be included in another game, then have that game be included in another game, and so on and so on. animal crossing for the gcn has nes games in it as a quick example of that. nes games inside of a gamecube game. that's as far as anyone has gotten. just 2 different generations of game systems.

Surely it should be doable. Like if you emulated a Dreamcast and ran a Commodore 64 emulator on that? But I don't know how far back you could go with the emulator you want to put emulators onto before it became unfeasible? Also I have no idea how any of it actually works so I'm mostly guessing.

The best example I can think of is maybe testing on the PCSX2 a Brazilian compilation called "Super Coleção 7.784 Jogos", since it has pretty much all SNES, GEN, SMS, NES, and Atari 2600 games on it.

If I'm not mistaken, some 32X games such as Knuckles' Chaotix are included in the Genesis compilation. With this in mind, the most that could probably be done with said compilation is the following:
PCSX2 > PS2 > Super Coleção > Genesis > 32X > Knuckles' Chaotix

Here's a list of the emulators used in "Super Coleção 7.784 Jogos" to emulate each console:
ZSNES (SNES)
Kega Fusion (GEN)
MEKA (SMS)
RockNES X (NES)
Stella (Atari 2600)

I tried to emulate the Neo Geo Pocket Color inside Visual Boy Advance-M, and it actually runs pretty well.

I tried to emulate the PS1 games on the PPSSPP one time, didn't work for a long time.

I accidentally downloaded an eboot instead of the normal iso once for Duckstation and no work. ::sadkirby

Do any of the PS1 games actually work on PPSSPP?

No, but i tried to put a Capsule Corps capsule inside another capsule, end result: (REDACTED) and i had to wear my kidney as a lung until i got the transplant

Emulators for Dreamcast run fine on Redream and Flycast. I have also used NES, Genesis and other emulators on PCSX2 and Duckstation. I have used many emulators for past consoles and MAME on PPSSPP and RPCS3 as well. They all seemed to work fine within the main emulators.

it seems like the psp emulator is strictly for games. i tried a psp movie file and it wouldn't even attempt to load.
the eboots are solely for the actual hardware.
