Holy shit, Elemental Gelade had games? Didn't expected that.

I remember watching it a long time ago. Never finished but the OP stuck with me. Game looks not good tho ahahahah

I've known about this anime ever since it was announced back around 2004 sometime, but never remembered to watch it. I can put that on my backlog of classics to watch now that this is here.

Just looking at the screenshots reminds me of Soul Calibur. Can't wait to try it.

+ Machine Translations can speed up the efforts to have dormant games translated, especially with the translator being professionally experienced in coding.
+ Anyone can learn how to use Machines to translate games

but

- Fans are more likely to believe there was more machine involvement in translating than human translation & cultural knowledge
- Machine errors will happen more frequently and need human correction. It's more likely to break things unintentionally.
- Most of what gives machine translations a bad rap, gives people a huge distrust for it

That said, I still am open to seeing dormant games machine translated, but needs heavy user reviews by unbiased people so to verify it as a clean effort project.
yeah i think they can fix some errors if they find one and some translators might help
as long as i understand what is happening im fine with it

Just me personally, but I have yet to see many video games with a story that is even worth preserving, maybe like one or two of them. Usually the writing is so abysmally juvenile and simple, I don't really see what there is to preserve or pass on, culturally or otherwise. So for me, as long as I can navigate the menu and skip through cutscenes and story elements like I usually do, I don't care what they use to translate it. I've beaten entire long games and have absolutely no clue what's going on in the story...

Yet I also don't understand why there wouldn't be room for multiple translations, machine or otherwise. For as I see it, none take away from the works of the others.. In fact I think it only enhances the prestige of the human translators, maybe they'll even go on and fix the machine one.

We need to realize that even in the past you would never get the same translation, even from the same place it was produced, because of the nuanced and intricate differences of the actual translators themselves and the people actually putting the pen to the parchment (it wasn't always the same person).

Also, I would think if one were primarily concerned with preserving language diversity, translations would be the last thing that person would want, as learning the language enough to play the game is the purest form of experiencing it while preserving the cultural heritage and giving the utmost respect to the source language itself.

With that said, I'm personally stoked to have so many great Japanese and other foreign games (and their creators) be exposed to larger audiences via translation, even if at the expense of some loss of the use of the native language itself. Further, the good efforts of human translation teams still give us all hope for humanity, at least it does for me.

n a side note, the Maori have an entire language model for their spoken tongue, all funded by themselves and trained on confirmed software and source material. It would be neat if there was something like the Maori model for the source language that could would be the base model used for translating these games. That would be a lot better than using some generalized model
