Reading about that disagreement, I can hazard a guess about the details. Although I can't say who was in the right without knowing more.
Honestly though. If I was a big-name Indie developer and I suddenly decided to cancel an anticipated game because of both burnout and a disagreement, I would probably just release the source code of what I had made... assuming there was anything worthwhile to release in the first place. Just so someone else could finish it if they wanted to. I mean why not? What have you got to lose?
Heck, I'd do it with my current projects if there were any that I'm 100% certain I'm never going to revisit and if there was anyone who actually cared about said projects.
What can I say, I'm a preservationist at heart. :D
