DreamCast Emu

Generally the emulation wiki is a pretty good source if you wanna know what emulators are out there for certain systems. Here's a link to it. It's helped me a lot in the past when an emulator just doesn't click with me for one reason or another.

There's Flycast The link
It supports Sega Dreamcast, Sega Naomi, Naomi 2 and Atomiswave

This was just my personal experience and I'm not saying it as a damnation to either Android emulator (hell, I'm not even a 100% certain that it was their fault -- although the timing was too perfect), but I'd be wary of using them because they wiped the SD Card I was using at the time completely clean.

was mostly put off by redream mostly because I saw you have to pay for like basic emulator stuff I’m all for donating and helping free projects but to pay for stuff that should already be in the emulator is crazy

Several people mentioned Flycast already. Demul is another option, particularly if you want to emulate arcade stuff Sega put out around that time.

What are the pros and cons of Flycast and Redream?

I have done some reading from the wikis, but how do they fare in terms of common compatibility and user interface? I have only used Redream as it's pretty simple and easy to grasp, but I want to know what you all think of the two.

To me they're almost the same, however Redream UI looks way fancier
I heard that Redream was also performance friendly, but I guess it depends on your specs

I've never directly compared the performance, though in general they both can give you accurate experiences of the commercial games available.

The most relevant difference is probably that Flycast plays the Naomi titles, and is more frequently updated. Oh, and it's the upstream emulator that Fightcade uses, their fork is called Flycast-dojo I think, if you wanted to get into that.

How do you load roms on each of the following dreamcast emulator and which files to download for a dreamcast emulator?

For the files, download the bios
To load roms, you need to make a folder and name whatever you want to call it, then put the files inside

How are the rendering options on Flycast compared to Redream? I like Redream's simplicity and minimalism, but there is a lack of tweaking options. A few games like Carrier had some minor culling issues, which I hoped to change, but there aren't that many options, unless they're hidden.

Very happy with the Flycast NAOMI support. My old Naomi board died and my Jamma converter also died with it, so I've been looking for alternatives to get my fix.

thanks but i was talking about the different files for dreamcast game roms like the gdi and cdi

I used redream. Thought it couldn't get any better. Until android implemented a new rule for accessing system folders, which made my redream not recognize roms. When I switched to FlyCast I thought it was gonna be a downgrade. I was completely satisfied with FlyCast. Both are good.

I’ll try it out thanks I didn’t even know this was still open lol

Flycast because not only does it emulate Dreamcast but it also emulates Dreamcast-based arcade systems such as the Naomi (Vanilla & GD-ROM), Naomi 2 (although it asks for 2x more requirements to emulate that arcade system), System SP & Atomiswave.

I don't recommend Flycast, not because it has poor compatibility but because it has a lot of frame-pacing issues which makes gameplay experience pretty awful. Unfortunately, it seems that flyinghead has no intention of fixing it:

With Redream this doesn't happen, which is why I prefer it.
I beg to differ, There is absolutely nothing wrong with Flycast get the latest builds here
