DOOM THREAD

I know I'm going to get some negative reactions, but I don't care, I don't like Doom I've always preferred Wolfenstein 3D / Wolfenstein RTCW, which is also by id Software.

The only Doom I liked was Doom 3. I haven't played the Doom 3 remaster, I played the original.
The BEST is DOOM 3.

I'm looking at you in a judgemental way for the second paragraph lol.

Doom II is a masterpiece that invites you into its world from the very second you boot it up.

But I have no love for the original... I didn't like the action or map design nearly as much — it felt awfully "game-y" in a way that the sequel simply doesn't.

I mean... you get two bad guys, a secret, and a cluster of enemies to deal with as soon as you start a new game on D2, whereas you have to hunt for enemies in the original and they are never a threat on E1M1.

That never sat right with me.

I recently finished The Dark Ages again because i have a new video card and i wanted to get a refresh of the story before y start Dark Ages Revelations

I've read opinion online and usually people still prefers the first game while agreeing that Doom II had some flaws, a worse map design overall and maybe not every new demons were the best.

Doom 1 isn't set on Earth so this is why it feels more like a video game than the sequel (although the "Cities" on Earth are abstract compared to Duke Nukem 3D's first chapters aside from the second).

This is technically modern Doom not classic era Doom yet it's still fascinating to see new content from the now cancelled Doom 4

In my (humble) opinion while I think those are cool I always felt like they could've fit a Quake game better than Doom (especially with the bio horror aspect). If Quake V was ever made they should take ideas from those as the Strogg loves using organic matter to produce enemies.

I don't like 2, it was filled with bullet sponge enemies and in swarms compared to the first game. In 2 they come in a horde and I don't have enough ammo unless I "Oof" "Oof" every wall before going to the next mission. I love 1 tho, but 2 is not it.

I think I love the "first act" of the game (from Maps 1 to 11 in the Spaceport) as well as some maps from the third and final one (Hell) but the middle act is boring in general (although Courtyard is a nice arena and Gotcha is fun with Spiderdemon vs Cyberdemon)

Paradoxically I prefer Doom 1's second episode above the other two.

Doom II is clearly an expansion pack and was made to be harder for players that are used to the first (like Super Mario Bros 2 the Lost Levels, Mega Man 2 or Sonic 2). Duke Nukem 3D was even thought as a real sequel to Doom 1 from a game design standpoint as the Build Engine allowed more than what Doom allowed to (until Quake came in).
