Do you use your consoles for something other than gaming?

My old Xbox fatty has so much music saved to it, even now, i used to rent CDs and borrow from friends and just copy it all, some games let you use that music! it was so cool and i wish modern consoles did it (other than me muting the music and playing my own elsewhere)

I use my PS4 and PS5 for streaming and spotify, idk i just do lol

I’ve always kept some music albums and a few TV shows or movies on my PSPs and my Vita, for those times when I’m bored and don’t feel like using my PC. For some reason, I actually find watching things on those little screens really cozy. Right now I’m watching Cyber City Oedo on my Vita, and I’m really enjoying it.

original xboxs being able to rip CDs to the harddrive is a really cool feature that I think most people these days dont even know about. you can play games like tony hawk and the GTA games while listening to your own custom soundtrack. soooo sometimes when I wanna listen to an album and play something in the background ill do this. ::biggrin ::biggrin ::biggrin ::biggrin ::biggrin ::biggrin

My OG Xbox had my favorite CD's ripped to the drive and the Xbox was absolutely my main DVD player. Once I started to get my consoles modded I utilized XBMC as a media player. Ran a Plex server on my PS3, as well as Blu-Ray's. I use Kodi on the Series S as a media player after I digitize my VHS tapes.

You can watch movies on the Dreamcast?!
You can watch VCD and even DivX converted movies, using 99 minutes CD's you can put a good quality movie in it.

But I also join to the club of "a console was meant to be used for playing", even if companies give more features to them. In the past I experimented with XA audio discs, DivX movie discs and other stuff just for fun, but nowadays you can get a small PC for peanuts and can do whatever your console can do other than playing, and better, because there is no software restriction. So, I simply do not find appealing to use a console for other than playing.

I used to use my Sega Genesis as music player thanks to many games' "sound test" feature and whatnot in the options. It's cool when you work on stuff lol. No need to bother recording these game musics to tape when you can play them on Sega Genesis. ::winkfelix

I use my PS2 for watching movies via USB stick. Thus I won't bother hooking up my PC to CRT TV just to watch old movies in the way I watched them back then and thus I liked them. Watching it on CRT TV + VCD quality + yellow subtitles is the way it's for such movies for me.

I used to use my PSP for internet and taking pictures because it make everything look so good lol but it exploded. Still I wanna get another one for its magical camera.

In the end naturally I don't only use the consoles for non-gaming. It's just when they have lots of use why not use them for something else too? This is MacGyverism yo lol.

I use my ps5 for blu-ray, 4k blu rays and dvds. Prior to that I used my ps4 for blu rays and dvds before upgrading to a ps5. My ps4 pro was extremely noisy and ran way too hot, I needed the upgrade and I also wanted a 4k player. I had a series x during covid and that was used for bit as a blu ray player too. I only ever had 2 DVD players and it was when the DVD functionality of the ps2 stopped working-which they eventually do, alongisde not running blu discs anymore. Ps2's just don't last like a ps1 or dreamcast did. My dream cast still runs like it's Christmas 99.

All in all, my consoles are my media players, I also use Crunchyroll on my ps5, but netflix and amazon prime are on my TV. So yes, I use them for everything.

Well I use me Ps4 for Movies and Youtube.
And I also use me old Ps3 back in the old days.

Well me Ps4 can also serve as a radiator (Heizung) when I dare play anything
I also used me old ps2 to watch movies but I think it scratched a Expensive anime disc of mine as I have problems watching that Anime ever since.

No need for an oven when you have a PS4! Mamma mia!!! lolol

I used my dreamcast as my sole means of accessing the internet for awhile. It wasn't ideal.
I remember how mind-blowing it was to see Google emerge from the Dreamcast... but I didn't own the keyboard, so it was strictly a novelty thing for me, kinda like visiting early, non-mobile-friendly sites on WAP.

And damn! I didn't know the OG Xbox let you rip (and use!) CD music! That's so badass!
