Do you still call the buttons 'Start' and 'Select'?

i use a ps5 controller that was given to me for when my steam deck is docked and i honestly forgot that the button on the left isnt called select but that might be cause steam input does seem to equate it to being a select button (cause it is) though whats neat on this controller is the sides of the trackpad can double as start and select buttons

always Start and Select and the middle button is called The Middle Button

It's been like 20 years since the first Xbox and I still never saw anyone calling the shoulder buttons by LB/RB/RT/LT

Probably because B and T don't mean anything for those who aren't native English speakers, but you can't compete with L1/L2/R1/R2.

It took me time before I understood those were called Bumpers and Triggers.

Yes, I do. Even for my Nintendo Switch, which confuses my friends about whether select is "+" or "-" button.

I think it's because of how they're shaped + the way you press them is you just 'bump' them with your fingers?

But I also don t know anyone who calls them 'bumpers' (and legit until recently I thought it stood for 'button' because why would they be called 'bumpers? They're the shoulder buttons and the triggers are the shoulder triggers)

And on the Playstation they just changed the select button into a really big one. Like for real, the track pad has just become a more usefull and diverse select button for practically all video games.

I liked that Start and Select were shaped after the Play and Stop button on a DVD player, those are vestigial yet a massive part of the PlayStation identity as a disc player and how Sony was a hifi channel brand as well...
