Never. I personally find myself lacking at times, or just want to experience being someone else, so I never pretend to be me. But making choices in the game, I tend to chose the options that my thoughts align with.

No, not really. If the player character has a canon name and a (somewhat) existing personality, I tend to not self insert in that game.

If there is an extensive character creator then sometimes I will try to recreate myself in the game. I spent a couple hours on Mass Effect making a mashup of my face with Fry from Futurama's hair.

If a game have a character creation I generally larp as the character I created. With select screen games I just choose my favourite

Not really. The closest thing I do is choose dialogue options that I would say if I was in that situation in games like mass effect or fallout, but apart from that, no.

I always try to go with the canon characters to a story where possible if it involves a crate a character but the plot is tightly tied to the character.

Otherwise I will create a character if I have enough freedom and it's not tied to the plot, by making it look as aesthetically pleasing as possible as there's' nothing more underrated than when a character has an awesome design.

As a guy yes but if I'm playing as a female, I imagine she's my wife and that I have to protect her by playing well so she doesn't die.

I guess I'm gay because I usually pick ladies if there is an option. But overall I just make choices that I would make, no matter who I'm playing as: a predetermined character or created from scratch.

Not really. I always choose character that i find most interesting, sometimes male and sometimes female. That depends on game itself.

very rarely i guess? not many characters i feel really align with me and even less of those are main characters (I did kinda self insert with Olivia in F&H2 though), so its usually just making up a character, used to even write like dairy/journal short stories from their perspective that i shared with friends sometimes

I think this is a problem of fragile masculinity, Regardless of a character's gender, you would find a trait of yourself in many characters, regardless of Nationality, skin color, sex, sexuality, gender, or religion.

And there's absolutely no problem with that, And the same applies to playing with a female protagonist.

Only in pr0n games, and then only if the playable character matches my gender and I find it funny. Otherwise never. Same for games with character creation - I go for an opposite of myself instead.
